The Mahindra XUV700 is a game-changer in the mid-size SUV segment. Launched in 2021, this SUV marked Mahindra's entry into the competitive space with an impressive blend of performance, design, technology, and advanced safety features. The XUV700 is available in both petrol and diesel variants, and it offers both manual and automatic transmissions, along with all-wheel drive (AWD) options. With its aggressive pricing and feature-packed trims, the XUV700 has quickly gained a significant foothold in the Indian market.
The Mahindra XUV700 retains the muscular silhouette of its predecessor but adopts a more modern and sleek design. The front fascia is dominated by a large grille with the new Mahindra logo, flanked by sleek LED headlights and C-shaped LED DRLs. The bulging bonnet gives the XUV700 a strong road presence, while the bold character lines running along the sides enhance its rugged yet sophisticated appeal.

At the rear, the SUV features LED tail lamps with a contemporary design, adding to the premium feel. The 18-inch alloy wheels on higher variants give the XUV700 a sturdy stance. The overall design is an evolution of the XUV500 but with cleaner lines, modern touches, and more aerodynamic proportion
Pros
- The Mahindra XUV700 offers a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine with 182 bhp and 450 Nm of torque, delivering excellent performance and smooth driving dynamics, especially in the automatic variant.
- It comes packed with advanced features like dual 10-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a panoramic sunroof, making the cabin feel premium and tech-savvy.
- The XUV700 has a competitive starting price, undercutting rivals like the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar, while still offering a feature-rich experience with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
Cons
- The third-row space is cramped and best suited for children, lacking comfort for adults during long drives.
- There is noticeable turbo lag in the petrol variant, with power only kicking in after 2000 rpm, which can affect city driving performance.
- Although the XUV700 offers a well-rounded feature set, it misses out on certain premium features like ventilated seats and a head-up display, which some rivals provide
Verdict
The Mahindra XUV700 is a well-rounded package that combines strong performance, advanced tech, and a premium feel, making it the most balanced SUV in its segment. While it has some minor drawbacks in terms of third-row comfort and turbo lag in the petrol variant, its overall feature set, competitive pricing, and driving dynamics make it a top contender for buyers seeking an advanced, powerful, and family-friendly SUV.
