car&bike Expert Take
“The Mahindra XUV700 offers premium features and an advanced safety package at an accessible price point. It is perfect for families who value performance, build quality, and modern technology. As the brand transitions to the recently released XUV7XO, the original XUV700 will leave behind a legacy that forced the entire automotive industry to raise its standards.”
The Mahindra XUV700 was initially launched as a step above the XUV500, with clear intentions to outperform its predecessor and meet buyer expectations. Over the past few years, the SUV has become a role model in the industry for its sophisticated engineering and uncompromising safety standards. It enjoys its reputation as a powerful commuter with both petrol and diesel variants to choose from, and an interior packed with features that arguably outperform rival brands’ offerings.
In our YouTube channel, we uploaded a video explaining five major things you didn’t know about the XUV700, and also released another video talking about the MX Series in detail. Our editor, Shams Raza Naqvi, also did a review of the recently launched Ebony Edition. Additionally, our team posted a video featuring the upcoming XUV7XO, which you can check out on our channel. Snippets from all these reviews will be shared throughout this article as you keep reading forward.
Recently, Mahindra decided to uplift the existing with the recently launched XUV7XO. While the Indian brand has not completely phased out the XUV700 because of this development, it has now discontinued its five-seater variant. Only the six and seven-seater configurations are available right now. Regardless, the XUV700 has already cemented its legacy in the seven-seater variant, remaining a popular choice in the subcontinent.
Pros
- Advanced Level 2 ADAS and a robust boron steel ring structure.
- Coast-to-coast triple-screen layout.
- Superb ride comfort.
- Powerful engine options.
Cons
- Limited third-row under-thigh support and no dedicated USB ports.
- No powered tailgate is offered on any variant.
- Capacitive touch controls on the dashboard lack tactile feedback.
Verdict
The Mahindra XUV700 continues to set standards in the mid-size SUV segment. Supported by robust turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, the vehicle is a no-brainer for effortless highway cruising. Integrating Level 2 ADAS, extensive airbag coverage, and a proven five-star crash rating further guarantees maximum peace of mind during both daily commutes and long-distance journeys.
While the third-row accommodation remains slightly tight for taller adults and the digital interface occasionally exhibits minor lag, these traits hardly detract from the overall package. And if you consider other factors for choosing a vehicle, like better third-row space or excellent fuel efficiency, there are other offerings at the same price. But the Mahindra XUV700 remains a practical choice for those who prioritise uncompromised safety over everything else.
Overall, we summarised the vehicle in one of our videos,
“The XUV700 reflects a clear shift in Mahindra’s product philosophy. The attention to materials, engineering, and detail signals a level of maturity in Mahindra’s R&D and development cycle.”
