The Trident 800 is built around a new 798 cc, three-cylinder engine derived from the 660, but with comprehensive updates. It features a twist-forged crank, high compression pistons and individual throttle bodies for each cylinder. According to Triumph, the Trident 800 has sharper throttle response and a broad spread of torque. The engine is capable of revving to 11,500 rpm and puts out 113 bhp at 10,750 rpm and 84 Nm at 8,500 rpm – which is almost a 40 per cent increment over the Trident 660. The Trident 800 also boasts of a standard bi-directional quickshifter.

The new Trident 800 is built around a new lightweight frame paired with a 41 mm Showa SFF-BP fork with adjustable compression and rebound damping, and a monoshock that gets rebound and preload adjustment. Braking is handled by twin 310 mm discs and four-piston radial calipers, and a198 kg wet weight suggests the Trident 800 will be agile as well as accessible, with a 810 mm seat height, which has a narrow waist to make it manageable for shorter riders.

The Trident 800 also gets a six-axis IMU, which powers cornering ABS and lean-sensitive traction control, along with three ride modes – Road, Sport and Rain. Cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity are standard, as well as turn-by-turn navigation. All read-outs and features are visible on the small 3.5-inch TFT display. Lighting is all-LED, which includes a round headlight and self-cancelling turn indicators.

The overall design is familiar, since it has the same compact and muscular silhouette of the Trident 660, but with some small changes in the details. A new headlight cowl, a two-piece stepped seat and a belly pan add more flair to the overall design. The Triumph Trident 800 is offered in three colours – Ash Grey, Carnival Red and Jet Black. Gold-finished wheels are offered as standard across all three colour options.

The Triumph Trident 800 has already been launched in the UK, priced at 9,195 GBP (approximately Rs. 10.76 lakh under current exchange rates). The new Trident 800 is expected to be launched in India very soon, possibly within the next few weeks. We expect prices to be around Rs. 11.25 lakh (Ex-showroom) once it’s launched. The Trident 800 is aimed at riders looking for a more comfortable and practical roadster, a somewhat retro-inspired performance roadster which will be more practical than the Street Triple R, but more manageable than the aggressive Street Triple RS.
