We keep hearing electric cars are the future. But while we wait in vain for real-world mass application solutions, it would seem Bosch has an intelligent idea to retrofit even existing cars to go green. Whether it is Tesla or the Volkswagen Group or Mercedes-Benz globally, or Tata Motors and Mahindra in India - all are striving towards cleaner mobility solutions. And they too are relying on a lot of the innovation happening - not in their own labs, but at the supplier end with component makers stepping up their game. Enter Bosch.

The company has already said that its first car in India is likely to come in the second quarter of 2019 and now it has announced that its second launch in the market will be an electric SUV which will come in just under a year from the launch of its first car.

Following up with its announcement to introduce electric vehicles in India by 2020, Maruti Suzuki flagged off electric vehicles for field testing in India. The 50 prototype electric vehicles have been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, while the cars have been built at Maruti Suzuki's Gurugram facility in Haryana, as part of the company's make in India commitment. The electric vehicles were flagged off from the Gurugram facility by Maruti Suzuki - Senior Executive Director (Engineering), CV Raman. The prototype electric vehicles have been developed on an existing model by Suzuki Japan, the company said in a statement.

Bringing the Mercedes-Benz EQ C to India could be a big boost to Mercedes-Benz India - especially if the automaker could set up some sort of charging infrastructure at the owner's house/office space and also look into public charging infrastructure for EQ C owners at showrooms and service centres.
