- The Yamaha XSR155 is the most compact motorcycle from Yamaha's modern-retro line-up.
- It brings in the classic/retro look with the MT-15 underpinnings.
- With an upright stance, the motorcycle features a round headlamp, teardrop tank, and a simple LCD tachometer.
- While it boasts a new style, it comes forth as a great package with the tried-and-tested formula from the MT-15.
- With a lighter weight, richer electronics, and a high-rev character, it will rival the Royal Enfield Hunter 350.

- As for the chassis, the XSR155 gets Yamaha’s Deltabox frame.
- This is supported by upside-down front forks and a linked-type monoshock.

Yamaha XSR 155 Overview
For years, bike enthusiasts waited for a true retro-sport offering from the Japanese brand. To meet this expectation, the manufacturer debuted the XSR 155 in the international market years ago, and since then, the question has always been the same: when is this motorcycle coming to India? Finally, the wait is over because Yamaha India has finally made the bike available on showroom floors from 2025.
While the FZ-X tried to capture some amount of vintage ethos previously, it never quite made the cut. Now, its newer sibling takes things in a different direction by using the proven platform of the R15 and the MT-15 to deliver a far superior experience. You get the same performance as those two, but this one’s wrapped in a highly attractive retro-sporty appeal instead.

Powering the motorcycle is a liquid-cooled engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation technology. It's the same rev-happy motor we know from the R15 and the MT-15, and it loves to be pushed hard. The harder you push this bike, the more rewarding the engine is. The best time spent atop this machine is in the upper half of the speedometer, where you get a solid punch after 7,000 rpm.

City Riding Experience
Compared to the MT-15, the XSR feels roomier, giving you more space to move around. Compared to the R15, it’s not so imposing either, so there isn’t any problem moving the torquey engine around the city. The gearbox is slick and works well, but Yamaha owners often mention one thing about their vehicles. It's that there’s an occasional glitch while working the second gear down to first or neutral, irrespective of the bike model.
Highway Riding Experience
The engine comes into its own at the higher end, giving you the long-term acceleration that a 200–250 cc bike can usually pull off. This achievement is a nod to Yamaha’s VVA technology, making a 155 cc engine equally efficient. The top gear also uses a 48-teeth rear sprocket tuned more for top speed, but a 50-teeth rear sprocket for lower revs would have been nice, too.

Verdict
The Yamaha XSR 155 is one bold move from the Japanese brand, being a neo-retro offering that proves that classic aesthetics can coexist with good performance and dynamics. This machine is genuinely fun when you push its throttle hard, and it handles most of the riding stuff well, such as braking confidence or superbly executed corners.
Sure, it has its flaws, as any other motorcycle does. For instance, the stiff ride quality may annoy some, while the switchgear plastics do not feel like they belong on a premium motorcycle at all. The seating is also focused on making the rider comfortable, not the pillion; the latter suffers during long trips.
But if you are a solo rider in love with the vintage aesthetic but dislike the heavy, lazy nature of traditional classic bikes, the XSR 155 presents the perfect middle ground. It gives you the raw excitement of a proper sports bike, cleverly disguised as a retro beauty.
