Royal Enfield Scram 440 Overview
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 recently took over the older 411’s duties in 2025, and it quickly made its own name in the Indian motorcycle market. While Royal Enfield kept most of the motorcycle's basic look intact, key mechanical upgrades are visible here and there. But for the most part, the two-wheeler’s core remains a comfortable sub-compact crossover with a simple chassis.
As things stand, this motorcycle is a current market offering that embraces your daily tasks without any complications. It has some smooth power on offer besides highly reasonable fuel economy. As a Royal Enfield offering, it aggressively challenges the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Yezdi Scrambler to win over the Indian audience. Honestly, many riders are obsessed with the famed Royal Enfield badge, so for them, the Scram 440 is definitely worth their attention.

The Royal Enfield Scram 440’s engine mostly focuses on low-end and mid-range torque. The brand bored out the older engine by three mm, and the performance result can be seen clearly. During our tests, the power delivery stayed linear and predictable, and it had enough grunt to make traffic crawls inside the city bearable.

City Riding Experience
Inside the city, the motorcycle’s throttle is quite energetic. The clutch is light as well, so you don’t have to worry about how long you’ll be able to keep working on it during heavy traffic. As for the six-speed transmission, it shifts cleanly for the most part, but we did find it a bit clunky on some occasions.

Highway Riding Experience
Out on the open road, the motorcycle cruises comfortably at 90 to 100 kmph. Go beyond that, and some inconveniences stand out, such as pushing it hard above 125 kmph, bringing minor vibrations through the footpegs. Overtaking at high speeds also requires you to plan before you do it.
While some offerings from other brands, like those of Yamaha, give exceptional performance near their engines’ redlines, this one doesn’t. It eventually runs out of breath near the top end. But this is normal, since Royal Enfield doesn’t think about hitting record lap times while making their bikes in the first place.

The Royal Enfield Scram 440 keeps its familiar, tough shape, courtesy of the brand’s design heritage. No overly edgy lines can be seen on this bike, as it appears like a standard crossover, with a highly practical 15-litre fuel tank. The seat height is at 795 mm, which accommodates riders of different heights.

The Enfield is notably longer than the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Yezdi Scrambler, stretching up to 2,165 mm. It also has a lower seat height than the Triumph or the Yezdi, which have 835 mm and 800 mm, respectively.

Build Quality & Materials
The paint has been applied evenly across different surfaces of the bike; whether it’s on the fuel tank or the side panel, the finish is uniform and glossy. Royal Enfield has used durable switchgear plastics across the board as well, but these may look like last-gen if you compare them to pricey alternatives. Overall, the motorcycle has a tough demeanour, and it can undoubtedly handle years of daily abuse.
Royal Enfield Scram 440 Colours
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 has five primary colours in the market right now.
- Trail Variant: Trail Blue and Trail Green.
- Force Variant: Force Blue, Force Grey, and Force Teal.
Minimal changes have been undertaken to make the 440 look different from the 411. Royal Enfield’s decision is understandable, since the brand did not want to alienate its loyal fanbase.

Lighting & Front Identity
- The front profile gets an updated LED headlamp, which offers decent night-time visibility.
- The standard bulb turn indicators are still there, probably one manufacturing decision that keeps overall costs in check.
- There is also a small cowl around the headlight, keeping the urban scrambler appearance alive.

Side Profile & Rear Section
- The side panels have contrasting decals that amplify the motorcycle's beefy lines.
- The exhaust muffler reaches out at an upswept angle, and it’s got some nice pops and crackles to deliver while on the run.
- At the rear, an updated LED tail lamp completes the familiar Enfield-esque look.
Practical Integration
There are a lot of useful elements in the Royal Enfield Scram 440’s design. The reinforced rear subframe provides support for a sturdy top box; you can load around 10 kg here. And despite its 196 kg kerb weight, the motorcycle still chugs along over rough surfaces without any complaints.
This bike is an excellent entry point into the middleweight scrambler segment. Classic 350 cc roadsters cost less, and high-end off-road bikes cost more; the Scram 440 understands this gap and seeks to take advantage of it.
Pricing has been kept simple with two variants. The base Trail model gets spoked wheels and highly durable tubed tyres, while the top-spec Force version brings alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. The price difference between the two trims is not much, either.

A 443 cc engine barely delivers class-leading mileage figures, but Royal Enfield bikes have always been efficient with their higher cubic capacity machines. The Scram 440 mixes lively urban performance with highly acceptable daily running costs.
However, during typical city riding, some amount of extra fuel consumption is bound to happen, typically when the revs do not cross 4,000 rpm. But kudos to the 15-litre fuel tank as well, which lets you cover almost 400 kilometres before a refill.

Royal Enfield has always preferred keeping things simple, and the Scram 440 does not abandon that philosophy. You will not find any overly complex menus or unnecessary screens in this bike, since every feature feels purposeful and meant to make your riding experience better.

Instrumentation & Connectivity
- The handlebars enjoy the company of a familiar analogue dial and a small digital screen.
- You get all the needed readouts, such as a fuel gauge, dual trip meters, an odometer, and a clock.
- A gear position indicator is now available to let you know whether to engage the gearbox during traffic or not.
- Buyers can get the Tripper navigation pod as an extra accessory if they want turn-by-turn directions.
Practical Technology & Storage Integration
- To keep your devices fully juiced up, a built-in USB charging port sits near the handlebars.
- The rear subframe has been heavily reinforced to handle extra luggage.
- You can confidently mount a top box atop it. Keep the load around 9–10 kg.

Safety Technology
- The braking setup uses larger pistons, so you now have better stopping power than the older model.
- The motorcycle also has a dual-channel anti-lock braking system to keep you safe on slippery roads.

The brand calls this an ADV Crossover from their side, and we admit, the tag fits perfectly. You get the ruggedness of an adventure bike without the intimidating size of one.
City Handling
It handles broken tarmac easily on regular city roads. The chassis feels solid, and the suspension has been tuned well. Riding through heavy traffic is convenient, particularly because of the accessible 795 mm seat height. Even though the motorcycle weighs 198 kg, the weight vanishes once you start moving, allowing you to filter smoothly through gaps.
Highway Stability
The highway is where the new powertrain unleashes its true potential. The addition of a six-speed gearbox has completely changed how this bike behaves on open stretches. Crosswinds barely affect its trajectory, even if you are nearing triple-digit speeds. However, pushing it harder in corners might feel like a nervous task to do if you’re a novice. It never feels dangerous, though.

Suspension Behaviour
The bike gets 190 mm of travel up front and 180 mm at the rear, a setup that slides past deep potholes and uneven speed breakers without looking back. There is also the healthy 200 mm ground clearance we need to mention, which makes sure the underbelly remains safe when you take it off the tarmac.

Rider & Pillion Comfort
- The riding posture is upright, keeping you comfortable for long hours.
- Footpegs are neutrally placed, so neither the rider nor the pillion feels like running out of leg space.
- The seat foam is also dense enough to prevent soreness on highway runs.
Choosing the right variant mostly comes down to where you plan to ride. Thankfully, Royal Enfield does not confuse buyers with eight-nine options. There are only two variants, and much of the difference between them lies in their paint schemes and tubeless tyres.
Which Royal Enfield Scram 440 Should You Buy?
- Trail Variant: This is perfect for those people who love Royal Enfield’s classic look. It comes with spoked wheels and tube-type tyres, and you can grab it in Trail Blue or Trail Green. Just remember that fixing a puncture on the road will require more effort.
- Force Variant: We highly recommend this one for everyday riders. It has alloy wheels and tubeless tyres, which are much better in today’s time. Yes, it costs slightly more, but the convenience is well worth the premium, and you also get some fresh colour options like Force Blue, Force Grey, and Force Teal.
The sub-500 cc scrambler segment has grown highly competitive in India; it’s no longer as dry as it once used to be. The Scram 440 faces some direct heat from motorcycles like the Yezdi Scrambler and the Triumph Scrambler 400 X.
Each brings a unique flavour to the table. The Yezdi has a raw, twin-exhaust aesthetic and eager off-road dynamics. Meanwhile, the Triumph offers unrivalled performance and a highly polished finish. The Royal Enfield sits between the two, putting its smooth ride and unmatched low-end torque forward in the deal.

Verdict
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 takes a proven, time-tested formula and thoroughly irons out most of the glaring flaws. It has replaced the old five-speed transmission with a new six-speed gearbox to take its touring capabilities further forward. You can now hold triple-digit speeds well, while the engine feels calm, and the throttle response stays wonderfully predictable throughout the run.
But it also clearly lacks the frantic energy of the Triumph or the aggressive styling of the Yezdi. Royal Enfield fans would say that that is exactly what makes it special. It’s highly forgiving, keeps the rider comfortable, and the suspension absorbs nasty bumps without breaking a sweat. Royal Enfield’s offering is a brilliant all-rounder that justifies its overall price tag.
