car&bike Expert Take
“The Tata Tiago is a practical and competent hatchback meant for buyers who value safety and economy the most. It does not attempt to be flashy and focuses on the core essentials, such as a stable ride, a comfortable cabin, and multiple powertrain options. With its solid build structure and excellent fuel efficiency, the Tiago remains a highly sensible choice in the competitive entry-level segment.”

Since its introduction in 2016, the Tata Tiago has maintained a strong presence in the Indian hatchback segment. Tata Motors has continuously updated the vehicle to keep it relevant in the evolving market, and the latest iteration remains as easy to park in congested city streets as ever. Now, it also features other design enhancements, including a sharper front grille and more modernised headlamp clusters.
Pratik Prasoon Rakshit reviewed the Tiago’s iCNG variant, uploaded on our YouTube channel, and our car&bike team also wrote a piece on the same, which is available on our website. Our author Jaiveer Mehra further released another excerpt on the iCNG’s AMT setup, which you can check out here. Snippets from all of these pieces will be shared throughout this article.
As for the Tata Tiago’s features, such as its interior layout, it has always been as straightforward and functional as ever, and the brand has further improved the cabin’s material quality over time, while adding other essential features, such as a new touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. The car also holds a Global NCAP four-star safety rating, something many of its rivals in the same price bracket lack. Ultimately, this vehicle has been engineered by Tata as a daily driver focused on managing everyday tasks without unnecessary complications. Different fuel options across its variants widen its overall commercial appeal among budget-conscious buyers.

Pros
- Four-star Global NCAP safety rating
- Many powertrain options, including a CNG-automatic
- Better suspension than rivals
- Eight-speaker Harman audio system
Cons
- The three-cylinder engine causes noticeable cabin vibrations
- The AMT gearbox feels slow during quick overtakes or steep inclines
- The cabin has no rear AC vents and a rear centre armrest
Verdict
For first-time buyers and small families, the Tata Tiago is one of the safest and most practical city hatchbacks available in the Indian market today. We agree that it’s quite vocal with the three-cylinder motor and the occasionally resisting AMT gearbox. But Tata Motors has addressed such shortcomings in its offering with class-leading safety features and structural integrity. Since there are multiple powertrains available, the car is also an attractive choice for different daily requirements or buyer budgets.
Furthermore, the cabin feels well put together, the audio system is brilliant, and the supportive front seat is appreciated. The suspension is ideal for local roads, keeping passengers comfortable over uneven terrain. Overall, if you want a safety-first car, a comfortable riding unit, and a functional package at an affordable price, the Tata Tiago deserves to be at the top of your list.
Jaideep’s review summarises,
“Yes, the Tiago does have some downsides, such as its ageing design, lack of flashy features, and the AMT feels lethargic, but these are certainly not deal-breakers. If you can live with these shortcomings, this is very much a car to consider for your city commutes.”
Tata Tiago Price List (Variant Wise)
Tata Tiago Ex-Showroom price ranges from ₹ 4.57 to 7.82 Lakh. Tata offers Tiago in 13 variants. The top variant of Tiago is XZA iCNG AMT and the base variant is Revotron XE.
