Verdict

The Yamaha FZ 25 is the most affordable motorycle in the segment and is well-known for its reliability and overall performance. The Yamaha guarantee of speed and safety is aptly combined in this motorcycle and the high fuel efficiency figures makes it a compelling prospect. Overall, as a value for money product in the 250 cc motorcycle segment, the FZ 25 makes for a compelling case, but is let down by lack of entertaining performance and exciting design.

Introduction

The Yamaha FZ25 is an entry-level quarter-litre motorcycle. The BS4 variant of this motorcycle is known for its performance approach and exquisite design and bodywork. All these aspects of the Yamaha FZ25 along with decent pricing and comfort level, there is no reason at all to not buy this machine, and an ideal choice for people looking forward to an upgrade from 155cc bikes.

How is the design?

The overall finish and fit of the bike are good and no panel gaps are noticeable in the bike. Even the quality of plastics used in the Yamaha FZ25 is impressive. While, there are no rattles from the plastic can be heard, the bike does not not have any unfinished welds on the frame. The materials used by Yamaha around switchgear and instrument cluster are neat. In fact, it makes the rider feel that it is a premium quality motorcycle. The brand stickers on the bikes adds to its funkiness and along with that, the golden alloy wheels make the Yamaha FZ25 look even more aspirational.

How is the performance?

Now coming to the performance of the Yamaha FZ25, the bike is powered by a 249cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine and what is even better, the BS6 upgrades. The engine has the capacity to produce a peak torque of 20.1Nm at 6,000rpm, and a maximum power of 20.5bhp at 8000rpm. The engine has enough torque at the mid-range as well as the low range, and this has gained Yamaha FZ25 the reputation of fast commuter. While overtaking the traffic, the bike is extremely fast. The smoothness and the refinement of the motor has been taken care of really well.

How does the Yamaha FZ25 ride?

The overall ride quality of Yamaha FZ25 is well-balanced-neither too plush, nor too stiff. The bike exhibits the ability to produce a good comfort level, not only while riding in the city, but also on the highway. The rider does not feel fatigued despite riding this motorcycle for long rides. However, when it comes to the braking efficiency and performance of the bike, the front brakes should have been adequately tweaked. To bring it to a stop, the front lever requires to be pulled quite a bit. The suspension setup is on the harder side, and the harder bumps are felt through the handle bars, however, the chassis is able to absorb small bumps, while riding through uneven roads.

How comfortable is the Yamaha FZ25?

With Yamaha FZ25, the rider is able to experience a good level of comfort, be it on the highway or in the city. The combination of simple riding-triangle and well-padded split seats makes this machine a charming bike and ideal for daily commuting. The seat is wide enough to add comfort to pillion riders and it is long enough to accommodate two adult riders very well. The bike is also equipped with handguards. The suspension absorbs bumps quite well, adding to the comfort of the rider and it also provides a good riding stance to them, and thus, this motorbike is ideal for long rides, besides daily commuting.

How's the tech?

The technical specifications of the Yamaha FZ25 are listed below.

  • This bike is powered by a single cylinder, air-cooled 249.0 cc engine having the capacity of obtaining 20.5 bhp of power at 8000 rpm and 20.1 Nm at 6000 rpm.

  • The braking duty is carried out by a front disc brake of 282 mm and a rear disc brake of 220 mm.
  • A dual channel ABS supports the braking system of the bike for additional safety.

It is however lacking in some technologies that are expected at this price such as Bluetooth enabled console, USB chargers, and LED indicators.

How's the mileage of the Yamaha FZ25?

The Yamaha FZ25 gives stunning on-road mileage of 43 kmpl, thereby becoming one of the most fuel-efficient BS6 motorbikes of its kind. During test runs and commuting through city traffic, this bike has given a pretty good average mileage of 35-40 kmpl. This is an impressive figure for a motorbike of its size. The capacity of its fuel tank is 14 litres, which means one can ride this bike for almost 500 km at a stretch with a full tank. This is quite an impressive range that should be acknowledged.

Is the Yamaha FZ25 good value for money?

The Yamaha FZ25 has made a good impression in the market and its performance has remained remarkable. It has given a cut-throat competition to the rival bikes in terms of fuel economy and on-road efficiency. In terms of appearance, the FZ25 can give a tough competition to some of its handsome rivals in the market. Overall, this bike is a good value for money, having a mileage better than some of the bikes belonging to a segment above.

How is the after sales service?

The first three services for Yamaha FZ25 are free of cost. Yamaha is undoubtedly one of the best two-wheeler service providers in India. The first service should be available after 30 days or upon covering 1000 km, The second service should be available after 180 days or upon covering 5000 km and the third service should be available after 360 days or upon covering 10000 km. The following services must be availed after every 5000 km and will be chargeable.

Which motorbikes compete in this segment?

Some of the popular competitors of Yamaha FZ25 in the same segment are Revolt RV 400, Yamaha R15S, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, and KTM 250 Duke.

Verdict (Value for money)

The Yamaha FZ25 is a value for money because it can be your daily bike and can be taken on long hauls too. It provides long-term comfortability to both riders and provides good support on uneven terrains. The FZ25 does not only have a good sporty appeal but remains unbeatable in terms of performance too.
