What's New?
Bajaj Auto has launched the world's first petrol-CNG motorcycle, named the Bajaj Freedom 125. Designed to cut daily expenses for the commuter segment, the Freedom 125 is available in three variants and five colours. Initially, it will go on sale in Maharashtra and Gujarat, before being rolled out across the rest of the country. Prices for the motorcycle range from Rs 95,000 to Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
The heart of the Bajaj Freedom lies in its powertrain, with the centrepiece being an ingeniously integrated 2kg CNG cylinder positioned beneath the seat within the bike’s trellis frame. Additionally, a 2-litre auxiliary petrol tank is located just forward of the seat. During the launch, Bajaj disclosed conducting 11 tests on the Freedom, encompassing impact and truck-runover scenarios, with the CNG tank proving resilient in all trials.
The 125 cc, single-cylinder engine delivers a power output of 9.4 bhp and torque of 9.7 Nm. The bike, which weighs 147 kg, achieves a maximum speed of 90.5 kmph on CNG and 93.4 kmph on petrol. Both fuels can be accessed through a shared flap for refuelling, and riders can switch between them using a switch on the left handlebar cube.
Bajaj claims that when operating solely on CNG, the Freedom can cover up to 102 kilometres per kilogram of CNG, with a pure CNG range of 200 kilometres. Combined with the petrol tank, the bike offers a total range of up to 330 kilometres.
The motorcycle is equipped with features such as a conventional telescopic fork with sleeve protectors, a linked-type mono rear shock, and a front disc brake in its top-spec variant, complemented by a standard combined braking system. Due to the absence of a traditional fuel tank, Bajaj has been able to install what it claims to be the world's longest motorcycle seat, measuring 785 mm. The top-tier variant also includes a negative LCD cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The Bajaj Freedom 125 is fitted with a 17-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear wheel, both wrapped in 120/70-section rubber (90/80- and 100/80-section on the base Drum variant). The seat height is set at 825 mm.

car&bike Expert Take
“Bajaj has genuinely answered the calls of budget-oriented riders with the Freedom 125 CNG. It skips most of the standard commuter conventions, bringing with it a clever dual-fuel setup to the masses instead, and low running costs that do not give up the basics of a solid motorcycle either.”
Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Overview
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG stands as a compelling solution to rising fuel costs in India. Since its launch in 2024, it has brought some much-needed, fresh perspective to the 125 cc segment, as now, you get a motorcycle that runs on both CNG and petrol, making it very frugal to keep on the road.
Bajaj Auto built this from scratch, placing a two-kg CNG tank safely within a tough steel trellis frame. It sits comfortably among other premium commuters and brings up its unmatched saving capacity to the table during discussion. It also handles the tricky parts of city strolls effortlessly most of the time, while the seat is long, and the suspension is forgiving. For riders who have long been expecting a greener choice without the anxiety of how far it can go, and also something other than the EV scooters widely available in the market, this is the bike to consider.
Preetam Bora had gone through the two-wheeler’s first look, while Janak Sorap shared how it actually performed in real-world situations. Their opinions are shared in this review as well, supplementing our overall thoughts about the world’s first and only factory-fitted CNG motorcycle.
The heart of the vehicle is a 125 cc air-cooled engine designed specifically for this dual-fuel application. Its sloper-style construction helps accommodate the CNG cylinder while managing higher operating temperatures efficiently.
Engine & Transmission
Take a look at the core engine specifications of this motorcycle.
| Specification | Details |
| Engine | 125 cc, Air-Cooled, Single-Cylinder |
| Power | 9.3 bhp @ 8,000 rpm |
| Torque | 9.7 Nm @ 5,000 rpm |
| Transmission | Five-Speed Manual |

City Riding Experience
Inside the city, the bike gives a smooth riding experience. You can switch between fuels on the fly with a simple toggle switch on the handlebars. You do not even have to pull over. The overall ride vibe that you get from the engine is that it’s relaxed, smooth, and ideal for heavy urban traffic.
According to Janak,
“There is obviously a slight dip in power in CNG mode due to its lower calorific value compared to petrol, and while it is noticeable mostly while accelerating or on upward gradients, it isn’t concerning at all.”

Highway Riding Experience
Meanwhile, the motorcycle holds its ground well on open roads. The five-speed gearbox accompanying the engine shifts cleanly most of the time. But we noticed it can be slightly dodgy when shifting from fourth to fifth gear. The bike reaches a top speed of 95 kmph on CNG and can hit 105 kmph when running on petrol. Overtaking at these speeds requires a bit of planning, though vibrations are impressively controlled.
Pros
- Massively reduces daily fuel costs
- The 785 mm long seat provides immense comfort
- Strong and steady trellis frame
Cons
- The 825 mm seat height is tall for some riders
- Power drops slightly in CNG mode
- At 147.8 kg, it feels relatively heavier in its segment
Verdict
The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG clearly redefines what an affordable commuter can be. Bajaj successfully integrated a complex CNG system here without ruining the basic riding feel, and the 125 cc engine offers enough grunt to handle typical city duties. While it may lack the sheer top-end rush of petrol rivals, the financial savings are hard to ignore with this one.
The clever packaging also hides the two-kg CNG tank perfectly within the tough steel frame. Switch between fuels, and the transition feels highly refined, while the overall ride quality remains soft, absorbing terrible roads well. If you want a cost-effective, tough, and comfortable motorcycle for the long haul, this one makes a lot of sense.
Janak summarises the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG like this,
“For a 125 cc offering that runs on CNG as well as petrol, it packs a likeable design that is unique and appealing, offers good riding dynamics, etc. Calling it a good motorcycle in the fundamental front, at a price point that is just above the other 125 cc offerings in the market, is a huge achievement from Bajaj Auto in my opinion.”
Freedom 125 CNG Colour Options
Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG is available in 7 different colors namely EBONY BLACK Drum, Racing RED, PEWTER GREY, Drum PEWTER GREY, Ebony Black, Cyber White & CARIBBEAN BLUE.
