Honda CB Hornet 160R Expert Review

Honda CB Hornet 160R

The Honda CB Hornet 160R is one of the most attractive picks in its segment. This motorcycle looks stylish and offers good performance overall. Here’s delving deeper into the specifics of this model.

How is the design?

The design of the CB Hornet 160R was heavily influenced by that of the CX-01 concept motorcycle that Honda displayed at the Auto Expo in 2014. It takes a slightly different approach than the other Honda bikes in the category, which are all designed to be more of a commuting bike than a street fighter, due to the fact that Honda is known for making commuter bikes. The tank has been given a muscular cowl, and the Honda emblem in the shape of a wing has been placed on top of it. The front receives an LED headlamp in the form of Honda, and the most visible point becomes the exhaust design located in the middle of the ship. The alloy wheel design is brand new to the Honda family, and it looks fantastic on the Honda Hornet 160R.

The fuel tank has been meticulously chiselled from every angle, turning it into a machine that is more imposing than any other bike in Honda's portfolio. The CB Hornet has dimensions of 2041 millimetres in length, 783 millimetres in width, and 1091 millimetres in height. The rear has a wide tire and a tail light in the style of an X, both of which were previously absent from Honda's line-up of motorcycles. The ground clearance of the bike is 164 millimetres, and it has a wheelbase that is 1345 millimetres. The standard model has a curb weight of 138 kilograms and a capacity of 12 liters for the fuel tank. There are 790 millimetres between your bottom and the seat.

The Hornet has taken the place of the CB Trigger and features the same instrument console that the CB Trigger had previously. It is a fully digital rectangle unit that cleanly defines all the requirements, ranging from a bar form tachometer to a digital speedometer. Additionally, it carries everything like trip distance, fuel indication, and so on. The device is rectangular in shape. It is not quite as dated as many of the other street fighters that are now being produced, which contributes to the unit's attractive appearance.

How is the performance?

The Honda CB Hornet 160R is a great bike for both beginner and experienced riders. It has a powerful engine that allows you to go fast and enjoy the ride. The design of the bike is also great, making it comfortable to ride.

At 8500 revolutions per minute, the 162.71 cc four-stroke, air-cooled engine generates 15.09 PS of maximum power at 8500 RPM and 14.5 Nm of torque is available when it is rotated at 6500 revolutions per minute. The engine is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, and it performs really well in the role that it was intended to do. The power-to-weight ratio of the ABS version, which weighs 140 kg, is rather respectable. According to the manufacturer, the CB Hornet 160R can go at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour. The front disc brake on the Hornet 160R is 276 millimetres, while the rear brake measures 220 millimetres. Both disc brakes are standard equipment (220mm).

Here’s taking another look at the specifications:

  • Engine Type                 Air Cooled, 4 Stroke, SI BS-IV Engine
  • Displacement               162.71 cc
  • Max power                   15.09 PS @ 8500 rpm
  • Peak Torque                 14.5 Nm @ 6500 rpm
  • Transmission                5-Speed Gearbox

How does the motorbike ride?

The Honda CB Hornet 160R is an excellent motorcycle for motorcyclists just starting out. It is simple to operate, it has a seat that is comfy, and it is quick. A digital display, fuel injection, and a four-speed transmission are just some of the features that come standard on this motorcycle, making it an excellent choice for riders just starting out. The Honda CB Hornet 160R is an excellent choice for commuting or heading out on rides on the weekend because it is capable of reaching speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

Weight and friction are both decreased thanks to this bike's engine, which is based on HET technology. Its ground clearance of 164 millimetres maintains it high above the ground, which means that it does not have to worry about scraping against obstacles, and it can ride over a thin sheet of water without any problems. Stability is provided to the rider by a mounted handlebar and digital instrument console, which also informs the rider of critical bike metrics. The pleasure of riding is increased by the presence of comfortable foot pegs for both the rider and the pillion rider, as well as by a front mudguard with contrasting colors that prevents water or dirt splashes from reaching the rider.

How comfortable the motorbike is?

Honda CB Hornet 160R is a great motorcycle that is very comfortable to ride. The seat is well-shaped and comfortable, and the handlebars are positioned close to the rider, which makes it easy to control the motorcycle. The Honda CB Hornet 160R also has a good weight distribution, which makes it easy to stay balanced while riding. Overall, Honda CB Hornet 160R is a great motorcycle that is very comfortable to ride.

The CB Hornet 160R offers an upright riding position that's suitable for long trips. The pillion seat is also spacious and provides ample room for tall riders. The handling of the bike is sporty and not aggressive. The bike's engine starts smoothly in typical Honda style. The motorcycle glides across pothole-filled tarmac, thanks to a softer suspension set-up. The bike also feels stable at low and high speeds, and eager to turn. The Honda CB Hornet 160R's chassis is made of a diamond-type frame. This helps it dive into corners with gusto and is equipped with a 140mm section rear tyre. It also boasts wide, flat handlebars and a toe-only gear shifter, which contributes to its confidence-inspiring handling. However, the seat is a bit stiff and could do with a little more padding.

How’s the tech?

The Honda CB Hornet 160R has a mature stance and a wide, straight handlebar that offers great control. Its weight, however, can reduce its manoeuvrability in city traffic. It is also a bit wide. While it does look cool, you'll need to ride it in a space where you can avoid other LED lighting has been integrated into the headlight of the brand-new 2018 CB Hornet 160R. In addition to a speedometer, a tachometer, fuel warning light, fuel gauge, trip meter, and other functions are included on the digital display. A pass light, a pillion seat equipped with a grabrail, and an electric engine start mechanism are some of the additional features that are offered on the motorcycle. The front disc brake on the Hornet 160R is 276 millimetres, while the rear brake measures 220 millimetres. Both disc brakes are standard equipment (220mm). Because it has both the CBS (Combi Braking System) and the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), it is without a doubt the most capable bike in its category when it comes to stopping distances. The front suspension is a telescopic design, while the rear suspension is a monoshock design. The bike also has a lot of tech features that make it easy to operate. One of the coolest features is the ability to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to control your music and navigation. You can also use the bike’s Bluetooth capabilities to connect your phone to the bike and control your ride from there.

How’s the mileage of the motorbike?

A respectable mileage figure of 60 km/litre is produced by the engine that is based on the patented HET technology. It has a mileage performance that is superior to that of forty percent of all bikes.

Is the motorbike good value for Money?

Honda released the updated 2018 CB Hornet 160R in India after debuting it at the Auto Expo in February. Although it now has a few new enhancements, the most notable being the availability of anti-lock brakes. Starting at Rs. 84,675 for the base model, the new CB Hornet 160R's pricing range extends all the way up to Rs. 92,675 for the ABS DLX model (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi). The upgraded CB Hornet 160R looks largely the same, but for some fresh decals. However, the traditional halogen system has been swapped out for a brand-new LED headlamp. Additionally, the instrument cluster is completely redesigned, and now features blue backlighting instead of the previous version's amber. But there is no gear position indicator in the new gauge cluster. The new and improved model has danger lights. This motor still uses a carburettor instead of fuel injection. A five-speed gearbox handles the vehicle's transmission needs. ABS is available as an extra, although it is a front-wheel-only, single-channel system. The bike does make for a value buy overall, considering several crucial aspects.

How is the after sales service?

The bike comes with a wide range of after sales service options, so you can be sure that if there is anything wrong with the bike, you will be able to get it fixed. Honda offers a one-year warranty on the engine and frame, as well as a six-month warranty on the other parts of the bike. If you have any questions about any of these warranties or about how to use them, Honda provides helpful instructions online. Overall, the Honda CB Hornet 160R is an excellent motorcycle that offers great value for the money. The after sales service is top-notch, making it easy to get repairs done should anything go wrong.

Which Motorbikes Compete in this Segment?

Within its market segment, the brand-new Honda CNB Hornet 160R competes against other motorcycles such as the Suzuki Gixxer, the Yamaha FZ-S FI V2, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160.

Verdict (Is it Value for Money?)

The Honda CB Hornet 160R is a fantastic all-round bike. It does have one of the most powerful engines and a variety of hardware that few rivals can match. It's also one of the most comfortable motorcycles for long rides, thanks to its upright seating position and comfortable handlebar. The Honda CB Hornet 160R has a sport commuter stance and a set of center-set foot pegs. It is also very stable under braking, thanks to its tall gear ratio. Although it's a little stiff at first, the gearbox soon becomes more comfortable and gives the rider more control. It's a fun bike to ride in city traffic and a decent all-rounder for cruising on the highway. The engine delivers smooth power from a low revving range. It has a good amount of mid-range torque, which should aid in-gear acceleration. It also gets a sporty grunt from its exhaust. Fuel efficiency is decent, but you may have to compromise on performance for efficiency. It is a great motorcycle for those who are looking for an affordable and reliable option, with a lot of features that make it stand out from other rivals. The bike also has a comfortable seating position, making it perfect for long rides. Overall, the Honda CB Hornet 160R is a great choice for anyone looking for a motorcycle that can handle both city and highway rides with ease.
