Toyota Platinum Etios

In a bid to combat rising competition in the sub-four meter sedan segment, Toyota India has given comprehensive cosmetic upgrade to Etios sedan. The engine set up has been retained, but Toyota claims to have made vital changes to address issues such as higher NVH levels and vibrations especially in the diesel engine. Other mechanical measures that Etios facelift encompass is a new gearbox, tweaked clutch and improved suspension. Cosmetic changes made to the sedan are copious and additional equipment inside the cabin and on safety front bring it on par with rivals.

Toyota's made for India Etios sedan has received the most comprehensive update till date in the last six years. Changes made to the sedan are largely cosmetic and mechanical updates have also been made for enhanced performance and better ride quality. New elements like V-shaped grille, reworked bumper and larger air-intakes have transformed the look from front. Minimal changes are made to the sides and rear end gets redesigned tail lamps, new bumper and chrome accents. Engines are carried over from the previous model, although both the units have been tweaked. Inside, it is radically the same with only a couple of additions including new upholstery and a centre armrest.

Most of the changes are made to the front profile with a new V-shaped grille featuring black inserts and chrome accent. Redesigned bumper in front sports larger air-intakes and new housing for fog lamps. On the side, it remains unchanged with insignificant changes. Rear end sports minimal tweaks with subtly revised tail lamps and new bumper. Features such as electrically retractable ORVMs and re-designed alloy wheels are standard on top-spec variants.

The reworked seats offer more comfort to the occupants and are draped with new upholstery. The cabin also gets a rear centre armrest and a larger instrument cluster that provides better view. 

Toyota Platinum Etios Engine Specifications & Transmission

Power comes from a 1.5 litre petrol engine developing 90PS and 132Nm and a 1.4 litre diesel unit producing 68PS and 170Nm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Toyota has reworked the engines to curb the noise seeping inside the cabin.

Face gets V-shaped chrome finished grille, front fog lamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, reverse parking sensors etc. The dual-tone interior packs in seven bottle holders, a three spoke steering wheel and day and night IRVM among several others.

Claimed mileage for the petrol powered variant is above 16km/l and diesel driven range delivers 23.5km/l.

Inside, it gets steering mounted audio controls, six speaker audio system with CD player and USB and Bluetooth, . 

Toyota Platinum Etios Braking & Handling

Braking power is produced by disc units at front and drum brakes at rear. The suspension has been re-tuned for a better composure while on the go.

Scoring a high 4 star rating in the NCAP test, Etios is a reliable car when it comes to safety housing a number of safety features. With the recent facelift, the sedan gets a host of primary safety features including dual airbags and ABS standard across line-up. The sedan also gets ISOFIX mounting points and side-impact reinforcements.

Comfort features aboard comprise air conditioner with heater and clean air filter, power windows with driver side auto down, electric power steering with tilt function, central locking, cooled glove-box, front power outlet and intermittent wiper.

Alloy wheels are available on the higher trims whereas the entry level variants get full wheel covers.
