Lighting & Front Identity

• Yamaha opted for a stacked, rectangular LED headlamp that uses reflectors.
• The handlebar is exposed, similar to what you see on sporty maxi-scooters.
• The turn indicators are also LED units, mounted neatly into the angular front bodywork.

Side Profile & Rear Section

• From the side, the scooter looks wide and imposing.
• Without the external metal bars found on the Indie, the side panels look aerodynamic.
• The large 14-inch alloy wheels dominate the lower half.
• They are wrapped in thick 110-section front and 120-section rear tyres.
• The EC-06 also has an LED taillight tucked neatly under the seat.
• A wide, single-piece grab rail provides good support for the pillion passenger.

Practical Integration

• The flat floorboard is very wide, providing enough room for grocery bags.
• The seat itself is well-padded.
• Yamaha shrunk the underseat storage down to 24.5 litres, compared to the Indie’s 43.
• It now struggles to accommodate even a full-face helmet.

Yamaha positions this scooter as a premium lifestyle product rather than a budget commuter.

If you stick to Standard mode and ride sensibly in the city, you can extract over 110 km on a single charge. If you drop down to Eco mode, that number climbs higher, though the scooter feels sluggish. A standard portable charger handles charging. It takes roughly 8 hours to reach 80 per cent, and a full 100 per cent charge takes up to 10 hours. The battery gets a standard three-year warranty.

While it misses out on some of the flashy, expensive touchscreen technology found on flagship rivals, the EC-06 does come with some dependable, everyday electronics.

Instrumentation & Connectivity

• The scooter gets a colourful LCD digital console, but it doesn't feel quite expensive.
• By connecting your smartphone via Bluetooth to the 'Yamaha Motor Connect R' app, the screen displays real-time call and SMS alerts, your phone's battery status, and network strength.
• The app also allows you to check ride statistics and monitor your scooter's charging status remotely.
• However, it has no onboard turn-by-turn map navigation.

Practical Technology & Safety Integration

• Yamaha includes several features that keep the rider safe and make daily parking easier.
• A dedicated Reverse Assist mode helps you effortlessly back the scooter out of tight spots.
• For safety, the scooter comes with a Side Stand Engine Cut-off, preventing the motor from engaging if the stand is down.
• It also features a built-in Anti-Theft Alert system and a Combi Brake System (CBS).

The EC-06 maintains its momentum well when the roads turn rough.

City Handling

• Despite weighing a lot, the EC-06 handles city traffic gracefully.
• The battery is mounted very low in the floorboard, dropping the centre of gravity and making the scooter feel incredibly light once it starts rolling.
• The steering requires very little effort, allowing you to filter through narrow gaps easily.
• In Standard mode, the throttle mapping is incredibly refined.

Highway Stability

• On fast arterial roads, the scooter feels stable.
• The 14-inch alloy wheels play a huge role here, helping the EC-06 move over highway expansion joints without losing its composure.
• At its top speed of 79 kmph, the chassis feels locked in, refusing to get pushed around by crosswinds or passing trucks.
• The chain drive produces a noticeable mechanical hum at high speeds, though.

Suspension Behaviour

• The suspension manages the heavy kerb weight and the payload capacity fairly well.
• It uses telescopic forks up front and twin coil springs with hydraulic dampers at the rear.
• While riding solo, the rear setup feels slightly firm, transferring pothole jolts to your back.
• However, load it up with a heavy pillion or a week’s worth of groceries, and the suspension settles down a lot.

There is only one fully loaded variant available from Yamaha’s showrooms at the moment. And if you have owned Yamaha motorcycles in the past and trust the brand's engineering and long-term reliability, the EC-06 STD is something worth checking out from its EV space. You get the familiar Yamaha fit-and-finish and also the backing from their premium Blue Square service network.

For someone who often carries heavy loads, this one's chassis and bigger 14-inch wheels handle the extra weight ideally better than standard 12-inch electric scooters. If your daily route also involves broken or heavily potholed roads, the 14-inch wheels and thick tyres return a lot of stability and grip. But do note that it is a relatively heavy scooter as well, compared to other options available in the market.
