Pros
- The large tank successfully tricks you into thinking it’s a much larger displacement motorcycle.
- The motor is exceptionally city friendly and cleanly picks up from slow speeds in fifth gear.
- Incredible tractability eliminates constant gearbox usage even in heavy, bumper-to-bumper traffic.
- The light chassis allows you to flick the machine around city streets with great agility.
- The relaxed seating ergonomics deliver a comfortable environment for daily commuters.
Cons
- The narrow front headlight cluster looks out of place in such a muscular motorcycle.
- The 150cc engine on this motorcycle feels sleepy and lacks any real punch or performance.
- Its price tag is similar to more powerful bikes like Pulsar N160 and Apache 160 4V.
- Since competitors are more thrilling to ride, this bike is a tough sell for a first-time buyer.
Verdict
With the FZ S V4 FI, Yamaha has taken a step backward in performance, leaving the V4 with a sleepy, uninspiring motor that values sanity over speed and engagement. It has essentially traded its performance genes for absolute fuel efficiency.
If your primary priority is getting very good commuter mileage inside a comfortable, muscular-looking bike, then this Yamaha makes a lot of sense. But if you want your motorcycle to be even a tiny bit exciting, skip the FZ S and maybe opt for a Pulsar N160, an Apache 160 4V, or a feature-packed Xtreme 160R 4V instead.
