Honda EV QC1 Expert Reviews

“In a fast-moving market, the Honda EV QC1 is an odd machine. It drops fast motors and modern tech so that you’re able to buy it at a lower price point, but it’s also a highly sensible option for buyers who want something affordable anyway.”

Honda EV QC1 Overview

The Honda EV QC1 is a barebones entry point to help the masses go green, considering how India’s commuter space is quickly pivoting to the EV segment. It packs some entry-level packaging to achieve that, by offering a modest 1.5 kWh battery with a standard 1.8 kW hub motor. The scooter’s purpose is clearly understandable from such a setup; it’s meant for slow, neighbourhood trips.

Not much of the feature-heavy trends seen today are in this two-wheeler, for you get a negative LCD cluster instead of a colourful one. But for its value, it offers some other essential components, like a 26-litre storage capacity, full LED lighting, and an IDC range of 80 km. There’s also a dedicated USB-C port, the build quality is impeccable, and its ride quality is quite comfortable in relation to the competition.

But even though it carries the known Honda reliability factor, this scooter has mixed reactions from the Indian audience. Amaan Ahmed had talked about the scooter’s capabilities and current market standing at the time of his launch, and we have supplemented this review with a few of his insights.

The driving feel of the Honda EV QC1 is slow and does not have a lot of punch; it’s mostly meant to handle your trips to the local market and similar, mundane tasks. Top speed is 50 kmph max in the Standard mode, and 33 kmph in the Eco alternative.

City Riding Experience

The scooter's pickup is substandard; you will find it out yourself when older petrol two-wheelers keep running past you. Besides, the riding mode setup does not let you switch between Standard and Eco while it's running. This engine is mostly apt for narrow alleyways or local streets.

Amaan points out,

“The hub motor produces a 1.2 kW continuous output (1.8 kW peak), and it feels every bit as weak as those numbers suggest.”

Highway Riding Experience

Highway Riding Experience

Taking this machine onto the highway is simply out of the question, as its absolute peak speed limit leaves it badly exposed on faster roads. Even on open stretches, the motor completely runs out of breath, forcing you to stick strictly to the slow lanes.

The visual look of the Honda EV QC1 is noticeably flat and basic; it has no out-of-place elements or sharp edges. Honda has decided to keep its appearance the same as that of a conventional last-gen scooter.

Proportions & Stance

ModelLengthWidthHeightKerb Weight
Honda EV QC11,826 mm701 mm1,129 mm89.5 kg
TVS iQube1,805 mm645 mm1,140 mm110 kg
Bajaj Chetak1,894–1,914 mm725 mm1,142 mm132–134 kg

This scooter’s dimensions are around the same as those of its competitors, but remarkably, it's shorter in height than the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak, at 1,129 mm.

Build Quality & Materials

Getting into the saddle immediately reveals cost-cutting measures from Honda. The switchgear and buttons are basic plastic, and you also have to really search for the Honda branding. The maker skipped proper 3D emblems in favour of "QC1" decals stuck onto the panels. But for that price, the overall build quality is durable, although without any notable frills.

Honda EV QC1 Colours

The scooter is currently on retail in a single variant, presenting five different colours.

  • Pearl Serenity Blue
  • Matt Foggy Silver Metallic
  • Pearl Misty White
  • Pearl Shallow Blue
  • Pearl Igneous Black

The exterior updates are quite small; it’s clear that Honda wanted to make it look a bit like the Activa. The QC1 gets a basic eye-like LED headlight setup, and the overall styling is minimal.

Lighting & Front Identity QC1

Lighting & Front Identity

  • A plain LED headlight unit offers adequate night visibility.
  • The Honda logo is hidden inside the headlight block.

Side Profile & Rear Section

  • The panels feature basic sticker decals instead of glossy badging.
  • It looks like a conventional scooter from the side angle, with the same seat style and body seen in a lot of other entry-level scooters.
  • There is a 10-inch rear wheel at the back.

Practical Integration

Despite the polarising styling, the maker added a few useful elements for daily utility. You get a small front pocket for quick storage and a dedicated USB-C port to charge your phone on the go. The under-seat storage holds a decent 26 litres, which easily fits a standard half-face helmet and basic groceries.

Pricing is exactly where the Honda EV QC1 faces its toughest battle. At an introductory price of Rs. 90,000, it sits extremely close to highly capable rivals.

Amaan observes,

“Usually, a new product makes the market more competitive. The QC1, however, highlights just how good its rivals are.”

For just a small stretch in budget, buyers can access entry-level models from TVS or Bajaj that provide vastly better performance, modern styling, and a higher range. The lack of FAME subsidies further hurts its case, but it does keep a basic three-year or 50,000 km warranty on the table.

VariantKey FeaturesEx-Showroom Price
StandardNegative LCD, 1.5 kWh battery, Drum brakesRs. 90,000

Electric scooters heavily rely on battery capacity to deliver range, but the Honda EV QC1 packs a tiny 1.5 kWh battery. Honestly, it holds the title for the smallest pack we have recently tested in a mainstream Indian EV. The brand officially claims an 80 km range, but the real-world figures drop dramatically.

Honda EV QC1 Mileage
Riding ConditionObserved Range
Claimed80 km
Real-World Standard Mode55-60 km
Real-World Economy Mode65-70 km

Added to the complication is the slow charging, which takes around seven hours to fully juice up the vehicle.

The technology package on this electric scooter is basic, given that Honda is usually known for engineering excellence in this department. The feature list is remarkably entry-level, so it was clear to us that instead of pushing the envelope, the Japanese manufacturer decided to play it safe.

Instrumentation & Connectivity Honda QC1

Instrumentation & Connectivity

  • The scooter uses a simple negative LCD cluster.
  • There are no advanced Bluetooth pairing, navigation, or music controls here.
  • The multi-function lock also looks like it's from 2010.

Practical Technology & Storage Integration

  • To keep your devices topped up on the move, there is a handy USB-C port located in the front pocket.
  • The under-seat storage can swallow a half-face helmet easily.
  • You get a standard 330W off-board charger, with no fast charging available.

Safety Technology

  • The scooter does not let you switch from Standard to Economy while moving.
  • There isn’t anything else worth talking about in terms of safety here, but it does have a good build quality, typical of Honda vehicles.
Honda EV QC1 Tyre

Getting around town requires patience, as the hub motor’s 1.2 kW continuous output leaves a lot to be desired.

City Handling

The scooter rides on a 12-inch front alloy wheel and a 10-inch rear wheel, giving it a somewhat unbalanced stance. However, its light weight makes filtering through dense traffic very easy. You can squeeze through tight gaps smoothly, but do not expect to win any traffic light drag races. Even entry-level Ola S1S and ageing Hero Glamours will outpace this two-wheeler.

Honda EV QC1 Mileage

Highway Stability

Taking this scooter on the highway is not wise. The Economy mode restricts you to a practically unusable 30 kmph. Switch to Standard mode, and you hit a hard wall at 50 kmph, where you can actively feel the scooter pulling back, and much, much faster vehicles zooming past you at blazing speeds.

Suspension Behaviour

The suspension setup has standard telescopic front forks and a basic rear shock. It handles most minor bumps fine, but it crashes through potholes if you carry at max speed.

Rider & Pillion Comfort

  • The floorboard has enough room for your feet, but taller riders will struggle a bit.
  • The seat foam is quite firm, so your daily grocery runs will not hurt your lower back.
  • Pillion comfort is okay for short trips, but the weak motor struggles with two heavy adults on board.

Making a definitive recommendation for this electric two-wheeler is incredibly tricky. Honda has kept the lineup painfully simple by offering just a single variant, so the choice here mostly depends on the colour you want.

Which Honda EV QC1 Should You Buy?

  • Matt Foggy Silver Metallic: Highly regarded among buyers for its modern, sporty aesthetic.
  • Pearl Igneous Black: This one has a high glossy finish, and it looks both sleek and premium.
  • Pearl Misty White: This colour makes the scooter look like a clean and classic product.
  • Pearl Shallow Blue: A bright and trendy colour compared to the alternatives available.
  • Pearl Serenity Blue: For youngsters, this colour stands out the most.

The entry-level electric scooter space is fiercely contested today, and at its current price point, it locks horns with the base variants of the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak. Both of those rivals offer significantly more performance, tech, and style. You can also throw the Ola S1 X into the mix, which delivers far better specifications for less money.

  • Choose the TVS iQube if you want a reliable, family-friendly scooter with better performance and smarter technology.
  • Choose the Bajaj Chetak if premium build quality, metal body panels, and a proven retro design matter to you.
  • Choose the Ola S1 X if you are on a strict budget but still want thrilling acceleration.
  • Choose the Honda EV QC1 only if you absolutely must have a Honda badge for low-speed neighbourhood runs.

Pros

  • Offers decent practicality
  • Front pocket, USB-C port, and 26 litres of storage
  • Extremely lightweight and manoeuvrable

Cons

  • Negative LCD cluster
  • Cannot change riding modes while driving
  • Full charging takes around seven hours

Verdict

Honda’s first affordable electric step-through feels like a massive opportunity squandered. It genuinely struggles to justify its existence in a market that moved past these basic specifications years ago. The performance is severely restricted; you actively feel the scooter pulling back the moment you hit the 50 kmph limit in Standard mode. Range anxiety is a constant companion, too, as you will be lucky to hit 60 km on a full charge.

Moreover, the lack of fundamental safety features, like smooth riding mode transitions, makes it feel poorly calibrated. When you factor in the lack of FAME subsidies and the slow seven-hour charging time, the asking price feels completely unjustified. For thousands of Indians, this will be their first impression of a Honda EV, and frankly, they deserve much better. Unless you are fiercely loyal to the brand, you are better off spending your money on its heavily established rivals.
