The Kia Syros has achieved a significant safety milestone by securing a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, becoming the first made-in-India Kia model to receive this top rating. With impressive scores across both adult and child occupant protection, the Syros sets a new safety benchmark in the compact SUV segment.

In the crash tests conducted under the Bharat NCAP protocol, the Syros scored 30.21 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.42 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP). These scores not only reflect strong structural integrity and effective restraint systems but also position the Syros ahead of key rivals like the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO in AOP performance.

Kia has equipped the Syros with an impressive array of standard safety features across all variants, including six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, TPMS, and seatbelt reminders for all occupants. This ensures high levels of passive and active safety, even on the base variant.

Higher variants of the Syros also come with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), offering features like forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, smart cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system. These advanced technologies enhance situational awareness and help reduce the risk of accidents through timely intervention.

Overall, the Kia Syros combines top-tier crash safety with a robust safety feature list, making it a standout choice for safety-conscious buyers. Its 5-star rating not only boosts consumer confidence but also reflects Kia’s growing focus on safety engineering tailored to Indian road conditions.

Expert Review on Kia Syros

The Kia Syros sets a new benchmark in the subcompact SUV segment with its comprehensive safety suite. It boasts 16 Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Smart Cruise Control. These features enhance driving safety by actively assisting the driver in potential collision scenarios and maintaining lane discipline. Additionally, the Syros comes standard with six airbags across all variants, and higher trims are equipped with disc brakes on all wheels, further bolstering occupant protection.

The Kia Syros takes inspiration from the brand’s flagship EV9, featuring a futuristic and bold design. The front fascia is dominated by Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille, flanked by ice-cube LED headlights and a unique split-headlamp design. The side profile boasts strong character lines, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a high 190 mm ground clearance, giving it an imposing stance. At the rear, the connected LED taillights add a premium touch, though the overall design is a bit understated compared to the aggressive front.

Key Design Highlights:

  • Front Fascia: Large tiger-nose grille, split LED headlamps, and a muscular hood.
  • Wheels: 17-inch alloys with a sporty stance.
  • Rear Design: Connected LED taillights but lacks standout elements.
  • Color Options: Available in eight exterior shades, including Signature Frost Blue and Glacier Pearl White.

The Kia Syros shares its powertrain with the Sonet but focuses on refinement and efficiency rather than outright performance. It is offered with two engine options:

  1. 1.0L Turbo-Petrol (118 bhp, 172 Nm) – Available with a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT automatic.
  2. 1.5L Diesel (114 bhp, 250 Nm) – Comes with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic (torque converter).

The turbo-petrol variant delivers peppy performance, but there is a slight turbo lag at lower RPMs. The diesel engine, on the other hand, offers strong mid-range torque, making it ideal for highway cruising.

The Syros is tuned for comfort over sportiness, which is evident in its plush ride quality. The suspension setup effectively absorbs bumps and potholes, making it a great choice for city and highway driving.

However, due to its tall-boy stance, body roll is noticeable during sharp cornering. The steering is light, making city driving easy, but at high speeds, it could feel slightly vague.

The Syros stands out as one of the most comfortable SUVs in its segment, particularly in the rear seat experience. Kia has gone the extra mile to enhance rear passenger comfort, making it a segment benchmark.

Comfort Features:

  • First-in-segment ventilated rear seats.
  • Sliding and reclining rear seats with sunshades.
  • Dual-pane panoramic sunroof for an airy cabin feel.
  • Premium leatherette upholstery with soft-touch materials.
  • Adjustable cup holders and dedicated cellphone pockets.

Front passengers also enjoy ventilated seats, a wireless charger, and 64-color ambient lighting, making the cabin a premium space to be in.
