Mahindra XUV 3XO: 3 Reasons To Buy And 3 Reasons To Avoid
What's New on Mahindra XUV 3XO?

- It is essentially a revamped version of the XUV300 building on to the strengths of the outgoing car.
- In 2025, Mahindra brought in the 3XO REVX, which incorporates new variants that are not special editions.
- The REVX variants fill in the gap between existing variants offering more choices at different price points.
- At the start of 2026, Mahindra also launched the 3XO EV, the electric cousin of the 3XO compact SUV.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Exterior

- With a black roof and black ORVMs, the REVX further enhances the dual-tone colour scheme.

- Its equipment includes leatherette seat upholstery with contrast stitching and aluminium pedals.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Powertrain
- The XUV 3XO continues to be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel powertrains.
- As for the standard petrol model buyers, there's a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 109bhp and 200Nm of torque.
- But for enthusiasts, there's even a more powerful TGDi version producing 129bhp and 230Nm of torque.
- For diesel lovers, there’s a 1.5-litre motor tuned to churn out 115bhp and 300Nm of torque.
- Gearbox options include a six-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic, and a six-speed AMT.
- Mechanically, the XUV 3XO REVX is identical to the standard version.
- However, it is offered only with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine options.

car&bike Expert Take
“For its cabin space, punchy performance, five-star safety and premium features, the Mahindra XUV 3XO continues to shine in the subcompact SUV segment. Everyone may not agree with the styling or the interior plastics, but no one can deny the practicality it offers to modern families with its excellent ride quality, panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS.”

The Mahindra XUV 3XO was introduced in the Indian market as the XUV300’s successor back in 2023, and this model came with a completely redesigned profile. It got a wider, crossover-like stance that made it slightly identical to its larger sibling, the XUV700. Beneath the skin, much of everything else is still the same, such as the SsangYong Tivoli-derived platform and the generous cabin, along with the widest rear seat this class has to offer.
An extensive review of this vehicle was carried out by our Editor-in-Chief, Girish Karkera, and the video of this first drive is available on our YouTube channel. If you’re looking to read a bit more about the SUV, check out the detailed article by Assistant Editor Bilal Firfiray, where he breaks down whether you should go for the XUV 3XO or not. Their opinions on several elements have been shared throughout this article, from the car’s safety suite to its upgraded technology.
Regarding technology, we have been impressed with the way Mahindra has sought to improve on that front, with their offering now equipped with a panoramic sunroof. Radar-based Level 2 ADAS has come to the 2024 iteration as well, along with dual 10.25-inch screens and an electronic parking brake. Currently, Mahindra is selling the XUV 3XO with three potent engine options and multiple transmission choices, making it aggressively positioned against the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and even the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Bilal writes,
“The 3XO is the XUV300 reincarnated. But it has some major changes to guarantee a newer name and deserves your attention.”
The name ‘Mahindra’ resonates with robust powertrains, and the XUV 3XO lives up to that legacy with its engine choices. There are two turbo-petrol engines and one diesel motor to choose from, and all three of them offer distinct performance. For instance, the 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine rules its class with punchy mid-range torque and quick acceleration. At the same time, the 1.5-litre diesel engine’s torque is unbeatable among its rivals, which makes it an excellent load haulier.

One thing that caught our attention is the mechanical update in the petrol engines; they now get an Aisin-sourced six-speed torque converter instead of the older automated manual transmission. But the diesel engine avoided any similar change, sticking to its six-speed AMT alongside a standard six-speed manual. But in terms of performance, they’re both efficient setups for aggressive driving.
We have listed all the powertrains we tested below.
Engine Options Tested
| Engine | Power | Torque | Transmission Options |
| 1.2-Litre TCMPFi Turbo Petrol | 110 bhp | 200 Nm | Six-speed MT / Six-speed TC AT |
| 1.2-Litre TGDi Turbo Petrol | 129 bhp | 230 Nm | Six-speed MT / Six-speed TC AT |
| 1.5-Litre CRDe Turbo Diesel | 115 bhp | 300 Nm | Six-speed MT / Six-speed AMT |
According to Girish,
“With the 3XO, the powertrain combinations have thus expanded. The diesel is available with either a six-speed manual or an improved six-speed AMT that Mahindra calls ‘AutoShift’”.
Urban riding is comfortable in all three engines, because light steering and commanding driving position are the same across the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s variants.
1.2-Litre TCMPFi Turbo Petrol
The standard 1.2-litre turbo-petrol provides smooth low-end power, which makes daily commutes convenient, but it suffers from one economic problem: very low mileage in heavy traffic.
- In cities, the experience of navigating this engine is smooth without the rubber-band effect usually found in CVTs or AMTs.
- On highways, the ride remains stable, with the ideal cruising speed between 80 and 100 kmph.
1.2-Litre TGDi Turbo Petrola
The XUV 3XO’s rock-solid 1.2-litre TGDi turbo petrol engine lets you reach 100 kmph within moments, and while we usually recommend planning before overtaking, one tap of the SUV’s throttle will indicate you don’t need to think twice in such situations.
- City riding is strong and punchy. You can cover traffic gaps quickly with its quick acceleration.
- Highway cruising is as excellent as its TCMPFi variant, with minimal cabin noise.
1.5-Litre CRDe Turbo Diesel
The 1.5-litre diesel is a far more sensible choice if you want around 12 to 13 kmpl inside the city. It doesn’t matter which engine you choose for the long horizon, but of course, economically speaking, the diesel engine is more practical here, giving you 18 kmpl even after you enter the territory of triple-digit speeds.
- The undisputed mileage king inside cities among the three engines.
- It provides excellent cruising capabilities for long-distance highway sprints.
Bilal observes,
“It’s like a pet dog you take out for a stroll. It’s not the most aggressive kind of dog, but a well-trained one.”
MT vs TC vs AMT
The six-speed manual gearbox is a sheer joy to use because of its precision. But, on the mechanical side, the six-speed torque converter automatic is more refined, giving you a level of gear-changing fluidity that the old automatic simply cannot match. The AMT, meanwhile, remains a rare commodity across the lineup, available only in the diesel variants.
Design-wise, the XUV 3XO does not look like it relates to the XUV300 at all. It has a more modern and imposing road presence, with a sharper, wider stance that screams how it’s more than just a typical compact SUV. The interior’s fundamentals are the same, but it’s how Mahindra smartly brought about the changes, such as more seating space without overdoing the exterior profile.
As for the SUV’s outer profile, we appreciate how the squared-off wheel arches and the elevated ride height keep its ‘big-boss’ vibe intact, something most Indian car owners are quite passionate about today. And if we talk about its build quality, everyone knows about Mahindra’s reputation on this front.
Girish notes,
“The design changes are primarily restricted to the front and rear, while the silhouette and side panels remain mostly untouched. The only obvious difference in profile is the larger 17-inch wheels, along with a marginal increase in ground clearance.”
Take a look at the table below to check how its dimensions differ from those of its rivals.
Mahindra XUV 3XO Dimensions vs Rivals
Dimension | Mahindra XUV 3XO | Tata Nexon | Maruti Suzuki Brezza |
Length | 3,990 mm | 3,995 mm | 3,995 mm |
Width | 1,821 mm | 1,804 mm | 1,790 mm |
Height | 1,647 mm | 1,620 mm | 1,685 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,600 mm | 2,498 mm | 2,500 mm |
Ground Clearance | 201 mm | 208 mm | 198 mm |
Curb Weight | 1,350 - 1,469 kg | 1,225 - 1,346 kg | 1,110 - 1,220 kg |
The XUV 3XO is a heavier vehicle compared to the Nexon and the Brezza, but this is plainly obvious because of the amount of steel Mahindra puts into their cars. It also has a longer wheelbase, which means you get a more spacious, smartly designed cabin. But, on ground clearance, the Nexon’s underbelly will remain more safe against road bumps.
The 2024 model gives meaning to Mahindra's prestige with its revamped design language.
Front Profile
Out in public, people will promptly recognise the XUV 3XO because of its gloss-black grille, reworked bumper design, and C-shape LED daytime running lights. On top of that, the front further pushes that brand identity forward with its twin-peaks Mahindra logo in the centre.

Side Profile
From this angle, what you'll enjoy first are the squared-off wheel arches. After that, you will notice the thick body cladding and the roof rails available alongside the slightly sloping roofline. On the higher variants, you will relish the 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Rear Profile
The rear profile, meanwhile, does not look even one per cent similar to the XUV300. It makes its presence felt with a refreshing rear bumper, an integrated skid plate, and connected LED tail lamps.

Girish speaks about the rear profile,
“The rear, however, looks a little forced with its protruding tail lamps. I do like this infinity LED lamp running across the rear, though. That's a neat touch.”
Buyers who check out the Mahindra XUV 3XO will clearly figure out how much the technology, material quality, and overall cabin experience have improved.
Cabin Layout and Quality
Two 10.25-inch screens dominate the dashboard’s profile, acting as the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. The SUV’s material is also much better than the XUV300, and in the higher-end variants, the dashboard and door panels get soft-touch leatherette trims. It feels like you have a lot of space in the cabin, and while it’s physically true, some amount of it comes from an illusory trick as well: the dual-tone interior theme. Rounding up the cabin’s quality is the panoramic sunroof, a feature Mahindra introduced first in the segment.

Girish explains,
“The doors have deep pockets for a bottle, as well as space for other knick-knacks you might want to store. The headroom is great, and overall, it's a pleasant place to be. If you're going out with family or friends, there won't be many complaints.”
Seating Comfort
Due to its 2,600 mm wheelbase, the Mahindra XUV 3XO gets no complaints from our side regarding the seating experience.
First Row
The front seats offer excellent under-thigh and side support, along with a centre armrest. For long rides, the driver does not have to worry much, getting to enjoy a full view of the road ahead.
Girish observes,
“With a large steering wheel in your hands and a digital cluster in front of you, it has XUV700 written all over it. The overall trims and colours are also reminiscent of its bigger sibling.”
Second Row
It wouldn’t be wrong to call the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s rear cabin its USP. Knee and shoulder room is exceptional here, and our average-sized adult reviewers found this space quite comfortable for highway travelling. Mahindra took the leisurely aspect one step further by adding AC vents and adjustable headrests for this row.

Mahindra clearly wants to make its rivals uncomfortable with its pricing strategy. The Mahindra XUV 3XO begins with a humble price, trying to lure those who are looking for something other than hatchbacks. Across the SUV’s pricing brand, you get several choices between the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines and the frugal 1.5-litre diesel.
Mahindra has also brought the sportier REVX editions to its lineup now, making sure that you don’t feel like you are sacrificing something between the entry-level and mid-spec options. Whether you’re okay with a power-packed performance or you want a panoramic sunroof, Mahindra lets you choose between its offerings.
Take a quick look at the key trim levels dominating Indian roads.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Ex-Showroom Prices (India)
| Variant Range | Engine & Transmission | Ex-Showroom Price (Approx.) |
| MX Series (Base to Mid) | 1.2-Litre Petrol / 1.5-Litre Diesel (MT/AT) | Rs. 7.37 Lakh to Rs. 10.85 Lakh |
| REVX Series | 1.2-Litre Petrol (MT/AT) | Rs. 8.15 Lakh to Rs. 11.97 Lakh |
| AX5 Series (Mid to High) | 1.2-Litre Petrol / 1.5-Litre Diesel (MT/AT) | Rs. 10.00 Lakh to Rs. 13.34 Lakh |
| AX7 Series (Top Spec) | 1.2-Litre Petrol / 1.5-Litre Diesel (MT/AT) | Rs. 11.80 Lakh to Rs. 15.49 Lakh |
Mileage remains a hot topic of debate in the Indian automobile community, so undoubtedly, we need to be honest with the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s fuel efficiency, just like we do with every other vehicle. If long-distance fuel economy heavily influences your purchasing decision, there is only one true winner here: the 1.5-litre diesel variant. It will serve you a lifetime of relaxation on the highways.
But that does not mean the standard 1.2-litre turbo engine is completely negligible. Fuel numbers do drop in this one, but its direct-injection engine gives you a powerful performance on long stretches. Overall, if you keep your foot on the gas pedal lightly, you get pretty acceptable figures across all powertrains.
Bilal justifies the petrol variant’s low mileage,
“Now the 3XO has a turbo-petrol engine. With an automatic. So, the mileage that you are to expect from it shouldn't be the top priority. And it's not the 3XO's fault, it's a generally accepted fact.”
Here’s how our performance numbers stack up against the vehicle’s ARAI-certified figures.
Observed Fuel Efficiency
Engine Options | Transmission | ARAI Claimed Mileage | Expected Real-World Mileage |
| 1.2-Litre Turbo Petrol | Six-speed Manual | 18.89 kmpl | 13 to 15 kmpl |
| 1.2-Litre Turbo Petrol | Six-speed Automatic | 17.96 kmpl | 11 to 14 kmpl |
| 1.2-Litre TGDi Petrol | Six-speed Manual | 20.1 kmpl | 14 to 16 kmpl |
| 1.5-Litre Turbo Diesel | Six-speed Manual | 20.6 kmpl | 16 to 19 kmpl |
1.5-Litre Turbo Diesel | Six-speed AMT | 21.2 kmpl | 16 to 18 kmpl |
Besides its rear seating comfort, we need to point out how the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s safety suite keeps the brand’s robust identity intact. No corners were cut here, not even on the base variants. The foundational safety has been maintained from the lower trim to the higher-end variant to satisfy modern car-buyer needs.
Passive Safety and Crash Protection
For both adult and child occupant protection, the subcompact SUV picked up a sweet five-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. It was difficult to break down the vehicle’s body shell during side barrier and pole impact testing. To solidify the passive safety, Mahindra puts six airbags into each variant, and offers ISOFIX seat mounts for younger, precious lives.
Active Safety and Stability Systems
Electronic Stability Control is standard across all the variants, so there isn’t much difficulty in executing evasive manoeuvres. But as the pricing begins to climb the ladder, you get features like Level 2 ADAS, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree surround camera. There is also an electronic parking brake fitted to the SUV, another feature Mahindra can proudly say, ‘first in the segment’.

Mahindra’s inclusion of tech in its XUV 3XO easily matches or surpasses its closest rivals.
Infotainment and Interface
Here, you get a twin 10.25-inch screen setup, with both screens playing two distinct roles: as an infotainment display and a digital instrument cluster. They were both snappy to touch, and the integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were smooth to use. There is something more here from Mahindra, a connected car suite from Adrenox, which gives you access to 80 features. Meanwhile, Alexa remains on standby for times when you want to orally make decisions.
Cabin Convenience and Practical Tech
Before we talk about anything else regarding the cabin, we want to highlight the panoramic Skyroof first. Beyond that, there is a premium seven-speaker Harman Kardon audio system (with an amplifier and subwoofer in the higher trims for hardcore audio enthusiasts). Other meaningful, practical additions that make it to the discussion are the dual-zone climate control, the electronic parking brake, the wireless charger, and the 65W USB-C fast charging port.

According to Bilal,
“If you remember, the XUV300 was basically a chopped-off Ssangyong Tivoli to fit under the sub-4 metre mark. And the Tivoli is a big car, measuring almost as much as some C-SUVs we have in India right now. So that translated to an impressive cabin space for the XUV300.”
Mahindra received a lot of flak for its tiny boot in the XUV300, and the brand considered this thoroughly while introducing the XUV 3XO with structural changes. This one gets a more respectable cargo capacity.
- Boot space with all seats up: 364 litres
- Boot space with rear seats folded: Accommodates more litres for heavy luggage
Compare the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s 364-litre boot space with the older 257-litre capacity, and you’ll see how much Mahindra has strived to address this earlier concern. Now, the car has become a segment-leading choice for families looking to pack their belongings away on weekend trips.
Besides the natural space, the XUV 3XO also comes with a 60:40 split-folding rear seat layout. But there’s one thing that caught our eye here; even though cargo space is ample enough, vertical space takes a slight hit due to the sloping roofline.
Mahindra’s DNA oozes with tough vehicles, so there’s no doubt that the Mahindra XUV 3XO has been built in a manner that focuses on providing buyers with a planted and mature driving experience.
City Driving
Despite its wide stance, it’s a nimble vehicle for Indian traffic. The steering is light at low speeds, and it comes with multiple steering modes, letting you choose the level of weightiness you are comfortable with. Potholes and sharp speed breakers stand no chance against the MacPherson strut front and twist-beam rear suspension’s teamwork.
Highway Driving
At thrill-seeking speeds, the SUV remains calm, providing you with excellent straight-line stability that further gives fuel to your driving confidence. Body roll around corners is well maintained, and the SUV’s disk brakes boast immense stopping power to bring it to a complete halt.

Girish notes,
“Like other engines from this mStallion family, this one too feels super refined right from the moment you start the car, and it settles into an idling speed. Floor it, and you get instantly gratified by a surge of torque.”
Multiple options are available from the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s lineup. For the past few years, we have been acquainted with the pre-existing variants: the MX1, MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro, AX5, AX5 L, AX7, and the top-spec AX7 L. Now, after the recent launch of the RevX M, RevX M(O), and RevX A, Mahindra has finally closed the price gap between the XUV 3XO's low and high-end models.
But if buyers care less about what the car looks like, and more about what its inner mechanics are, you can choose from a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, a more powerful 1.2-litre TGDi turbo petrol, or a 1.5-litre diesel engine. In the transmission department, you get a six-speed manual, a six-speed AMT, and a six-speed torque converter automatic.
The following table explains how each variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO differs from the other.
Variant Name | Engine & Gearbox Options | Key Additions | Best Suited For |
| MX Series (MX1 to MX3 Pro) | 1.2-Litre Petrol (MT/AT), 1.5-litre Diesel (MT/AMT) | Six airbags, projector headlamps, digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment | Budget buyers upgrading from hatchbacks |
| RevX Series | 1.2-Litre Petrol (MT/AT) | Bi-LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, cruise control | Buyers want essential premium features |
| AX5 and AX5 L | 1.2-Litre Petrol (MT/AT), 1.5-litre Diesel (MT/AMT) | 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Adrenox connectivity | Feature-conscious urban buyers |
| AX7 and AX7 L | 1.2-Litre Petrol (MT/AT), 1.5-litre Diesel (MT/AMT) | Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system | Buyers seeking maximum technology and safety |
The right Mahindra XUV 3XO is the one that smoothly gels into each individual’s driving goals.
Best for Families: Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5
The AX5 trim ensures you don’t have to blow your budget. It’s solid, offers dual-zone climate control, and has the segment-first panoramic sunroof as well.
Best for Performance: Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 L TGDi
If you prefer some punch in your driving, the 1.2-litre TGDi mStallion engine found in the AX7 L will satiate you the most. You don’t have to keep worrying about whether the SUV will be able to overtake the car in front within the required time limit or not.
Best Value Overall: Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX A
The recently introduced RevX A trim in 2025 is a complete package. All the high-value features are available here, and they don't make the buyer regret missing out on the top-end variants.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO’s segment is regarded as one of the most competitive in the Indian market. It is only natural that its rivals exist in abundance.
A few of them worth mentioning are the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. In safety, the Nexon goes toe-to-toe with the XUV 3XO. In interior quality, the Kia Sonet excels over Mahindra’s offering. Other features that give the rivals some market authority are the Brezza’s spacious cabin and the Venue’s balanced ride.
But, despite the fierce competition, the Mahindra XUV 3XO undercuts its challengers with its aggressive starting price, Level 2 ADAS and segment-first features.
Model | Engine Options | Mileage (ARAI) | Key Value Proposition | Ex-showroom Price Range |
Mahindra XUV 3XO | 1.2-Litre Petrol, 1.5-Litre Diesel | 18.89 – 21.2 kmpl | Powerful engines, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS | Rs. 7.37 – Rs. 15.49 Lakh |
Tata Nexon | 1.2-Litre Petrol, 1.5-Litre Diesel, CNG | 17.01 – 24.08 kmpl | Striking design, strong safety rating, CNG option | Rs. 7.32 – Rs. 15.80 Lakh |
Kia Sonet | 1.2-Litre Petrol, 1.0-Litre Turbo, 1.5-Litre Diesel | 18.40 – 22.30 kmpl | Premium interior finish, multiple automatic gearbox options | Rs. 7.99 – Rs. 15.75 Lakh |
Maruti Suzuki Brezza | 1.5-Litre Petrol, CNG | 19.80 – 25.51 km/kg | Proven reliability, spacious cabin, low running costs | Rs. 8.34 – Rs. 14.14 Lakh |
- Choose the Mahindra XUV 3XO if you love engine performance and advanced tech like Level 2 ADAS.
- Choose the Tata Nexon if you want a bold design and the availability of a factory-fitted CNG option.
- Choose the Kia Sonet if you care about cabin quality the most.
- Choose the Maruti Suzuki Brezza for its highly spacious interior, and a network that lets you remain worry-free no matter which part of the country you’re passing through.
Bilal casually mentions,
“The 3XO may be new, but it is essentially an old wine in a new bottle. It is a heavily cosmetic XUV300 with mascara here, some lipstick too, a bit of foundation there, and a lot of concealers as well. But the platform isn't too bad, the powertrain, too, isn't outdated yet.”
Pros
- Powerful turbocharged petrol engine options
- Level 2 ADAS for assisting the driver
- The first panoramic sunroof in this segment
- Excellent rear seat passenger legroom
Cons
- Boot space remains relatively small
- White cabin interiors become dirty quickly
- Diesel variants lack a torque converter
- Missing front seat ventilation feature
Verdict
The Mahindra XUV 3XO outshone the XUV300 by tackling all the shortcomings that people had with that vehicle, from its inner layout to the onboard tech used. And this time round, the XUV 3XO added a panoramic sunroof. True, the cargo space is wider than its predecessor, but unfortunately, it still needs to catch up with the leaders of this segment. So if you have a long road trip on your mind, you'll need to give some extra thought to how you're going to fill that boot space first.
That being said, the vehicle still manages to pack tremendous value. Its second-row space is generous, the build quality offered leads in the Indian market, and the premium features are bang up to date. For families who want strong engine performance and reliable safety systems in the same package, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is unbeatable.
Girish summarises the vehicle with this statement,
“It may look more like a crossover than a traditional SUV, but it remains tough and ticks most of the boxes to make it a genuine all-rounder.”
Mahindra XUV 3XO Mileage
Mahindra XUV 3XO mileage is 18 to 21 KM/L as per ARAI The Manual Petrol engine has a mileage of 18.9 KM/L. The Automatic Petrol engine has a mileage of 18.9 KM/L. The Manual Diesel engine has a mileage of 21.2 KM/L. The AMT Diesel engine has a mileage of 21.2 KM/L. ...
| Fuel Type | Transmission | Mileage |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Manual | 18.9 KM/L |
| Petrol | Automatic | 18.9 KM/L |
| Diesel | Manual | 21.2 KM/L |
| Diesel | AMT | 21.2 KM/L |
