Aprilia Tuono 457 Expert Reviews
car&bike Expert Take
“The Aprilia Tuono 457 offers big-bike thrills and a soulful twin-cylinder soundtrack under the sub-500cc naked segment. While its ex-showroom price of Rs.3.99 lakh means it’s a premium proposition, its segment-leading electronics and performance justify the investment.”
The Aprilia Tuono 457 is the naked sibling of the RS 457. It’s for young motorcyclists as well, but drops the full fairing and picks up an aggressive, upright streetfighter stance. And Aprilia has used the same chassis and parallel-twin engine to maintain the bike’s optimal power-to-weight ratio.
Following its initial launch, the motorcycle was considered one of the sharpest handling machines in the segment. It is currently the most potent and feature-dense twin-cylinder naked bike on sale in India. Preetam Bora tested it extensively, and he had this to say about the motorcycle,
“What’s changed has everything to do with comfort for Indian conditions.”

The Tuono’s twin-cylinder engine is full of low-end torque.
Engine & Transmission
Specification | Details |
Engine | 457 cc, Liquid-Cooled, Parallel-Twin |
Power | 47.6 hp (35 kW) @ 9,400 rpm |
Torque | 43.5 Nm @ 6,700 rpm |
Transmission | Six-speed Manual |
City Riding Experience
- The liquid-cooled engine features a Ride-By-Wire throttle system.
- The stripped-down naked design makes the Tuono easy to steer through dense urban traffic.
- In 'ECO' and 'RAIN' riding modes, the power delivery is softened for jerk-free commuting.
- The engine heat is managed well by the liquid-cooling system.
Highway & Track Riding Experience
- Switching to 'SPORT' mode unleashes the full 47.6 bhp.
- The parallel-twin engine feels incredibly refined.
- But the lack of a front windshield means wind blast hits the rider directly over 120 kmph.
- The standard metal-braided brake hoses provide fade-free, consistent braking performance.
Preetam notes,
“There’s enough performance in reserve for when you want some proper thrill.”
The Tuono 457 looks exactly like Aprilia's larger superbikes.
Proportions & Stance
| Dimension | Aprilia Tuono 457 | KTM 390 Duke | TVS Apache RTR 310 |
| Length | 1,960 mm | 2,002 mm | 1,991 ± 20 mm |
| Width | 795 mm | 873 mm | 831 ± 5 mm |
| Height | N/A | 1,100 mm | 1,154 ± 10 mm |
| Seat Height | 800 mm | 800 mm | 800 ± 10 mm |
| Wheelbase | 1,354 mm | 1,357 mm | 1,358 ± 12 mm |
| Ground Clearance | 150 mm | 183 mm | 180 ± 5 mm |
| Kerb Weight | 175 kg | 168.3 kg | 169 kg |
| Fuel Tank Capacity | 12.7 litres | 15 litres | 11 ± 0.5 litres |
Key Takeaways
- A kerb weight of just 175 kg makes it exceptionally agile.
- The underbelly exhaust design keeps the mass centralised and the swingarm exposed.
Build Quality & Materials
While structural components and paint feel solid, minor inconsistencies can be seen in panel gaps and basic switchgear texturing, along with budget elements on the side-stand.

Aprilia offers the Tuono 457 in two colour options:
- Mamba Black: Contains bold red and black panels.
- Puma Grey: A muted, stealthy grey body finish with sharp red accents.
The Tuono’s front particularly looks different from other conventional streetfighters.
Lighting & Front Identity
- There’s a full-LED headlight cluster up front with LED DRLs and indicators.
- The Tuono gets a small front cowl that keeps the USD front forks exposed.
Side Profile & Rear Section
- The muscular tank merges well into the side panels.
- It has 17-inch cast wheels, with a three-inch front and a thick 4.5-inch rear wheel rim.
- The tail section is sharp and compact, with a passenger seat cover accessory available.
Practical Integration
- The bike gets a higher handlebar riser and a seat with special foam padding.
- There are standard adjustable brake levers and a standard fly screen, too.

There is only a Special Edition available in the Indian market right now.
Variant | Engine & Transmission | Ex-Showroom Price |
Tuono 457 Special Edition | 457 cc, 6-Speed Manual | Rs.3.99 Lakh |
In dense stop-and-go traffic, the twin-cylinder motor returns roughly 24 kmpl. But with the 12.7-litre fuel tank, you can at least cover around 300 to 330 kilometres before a refuel.
| Powertrain | ARAI Claimed Mileage | Expected Real-World Mileage |
| 457 cc Parallel-Twin | 25.5 kmpl | 24 - 29 kmpl |

There is an advanced electronic suite added to the Tuono 457 by Aprilia.
But Preetam points this out,
"A quickshifter still isn’t standard, and there’s no lean-sensitive function on the ABS."
Instrumentation & Connectivity
- The cockpit features a crisp 5-inch full-colour TFT dashboard.
- Navigation through its menus is handled via backlit switchcubes on the handlebars.
Practical Technology & Safety Integration
- The bike has Aprilia’s three-level adjustable traction control system.
- It also features dual-channel ABS with an anti-roll-over system.
The Tuono 457 offers razor-sharp handling dynamics and big-bike stability.
Preetam states,
"The changes aren’t stark, but it sits better under you, on everyday rides and even on a longer ride."
City Driving
- The wide, upright handlebar provides excellent steering leverage inside the city.
- At 175 kg (kerb weight), the bike also feels quite nimble and easy to manage.
- The 800 mm seat height allows average-height riders to plant both feet on the ground.
Highway & Track Driving
- The bike’s chassis remains very solid during aggressive cornering.
- Both the Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) and dual-channel ABS work discreetly.
- The tyres offer high mechanical grip when leaning into fast sweeping corners.
Suspension Behaviour
- Both the USD front forks and the rear monoshock are adjustable.
- They can comfortably handle minor bumps, but harsher potholes will be felt.

If you want a high-performance naked motorcycle that has true European engineering in its build quality, then the Aprilia Tuono 457 will feel like a value-for-money nameplate. Its 457 cc parallel-twin engine produces an exciting exhaust note and smooth power delivery, while the twin-spar aluminium chassis offers a lot of cornering agility.
But there are also a few trade-offs. The Rs. 3.99 lakh price tag means it is pricier than single-cylinder competitors, and the lack of wind protection will challenge your highway touring aspirations over 120 kmph.

The Aprilia Tuono 457 challenges models like the KTM 390 Duke and TVS Apache RTR 310, while the Kawasaki Ninja 500 is another alternative with a full fairing.
| Model | Powertrain | Key Value Proposition | Ex-Showroom Price |
| Aprilia Tuono 457 | 457 cc Twin-Cylinder | Aluminium frame, sophisticated electronics, high-revving parallel-twin motor | Rs.3.99 Lakh |
| KTM 390 Duke | 399 cc Single-Cylinder | Punchy performance, sharp handling, aggressive streetfighter design | Rs.2.84 Lakh |
| TVS Apache RTR 310 | 312 cc Single-Cylinder | Feature-rich package, sporty handling, advanced electronics | Rs.2.25 - 2.90 Lakh |
Which Performance Motorcycle Should You Choose?
- Choose the Aprilia Tuono 457 if you want a lightweight performance naked with a refined parallel-twin engine, sharp handling and a strong electronics package.
- Choose the KTM 390 Duke if you like punchy single-cylinder performance, aggressive styling and want a more affordable entry point.
- Choose the TVS Apache RTR 310 if you want a feature-packed motorcycle with sporty dynamics.

Pros
- The reworked riding geometry uses a slightly taller handlebar with updated seat padding for a more relaxed posture.
- Its liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine makes punchy and usable power, both for daily commutes and on open highways.
- The ride quality is more forgiving than earlier when ridden over rough roads.
- It turns into corners with great confidence thanks to its well-engineered twin-spar aluminium frame and well-judged 175 kg weight.
- If you want extra brake lever bite, sintered brake pads are available as an optional extra.
- The six-speed gearbox shifts precisely, and the ratios make it suitable for both city and highway riding.
Cons
- The quickshifter is an accessory at an additional cost.
- The traction control and ABS setups do not have lean-sensitive cornering functions.
- Span adjustability is only available on the front brake lever and not on the clutch lever.
- Its thicker seat padding raises the seat height by 10 mm and hence challenging for shorter riders.
- The new front windscreen provides no wind deflection at speed.
Verdict
With the 2026 Tuono 457 Special Edition, Aprilia fixed the comfort complaints its original bike had. That said, it kept the punchy twin-cylinder engine intact, but now went mildly softer with the suspension, raised the handlebars, and gave it better seat padding. All this make it an easier bike to live with every day, without affecting its agility.
Preetam Bora, “If a parallel-twin’s character is high on your priority list, this update makes the Tuono 457 a more comfortable, everyday companion than before - even if it still asks you to compromise on outright feature count.”
Yes, we admit that skipping a quickshifter and cornering electronics as standard equipment does make alternatives like the KTM 390 Duke look like a better deal. Having said that, buyers chasing parallel-twin character, sharp handling, and a great exhaust note will find this Aprilia a hard one to ignore.
