Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z

At first glance, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is reminiscent of its smaller sibling, the NS200. Both motorcycles share a similar streetfighter stance with minimal body panels, aggressive lines, and a muscular fuel tank. However, Bajaj has made subtle tweaks to differentiate the NS400Z. The Z-shaped LED DRLs, more pronounced tank extensions, and sleek rear tail section give it a slightly bulkier and more muscular appearance.

The motorcycle is fitted with a LED projector headlamp that provides excellent illumination, improving both night-time visibility and safety. The full-LED lighting system (including tail lamps and turn signals) gives it a modern touch, while the USB-A charging port and hazard switch add to the bike’s convenience. The digital display, though functional and easy to read, could have benefited from a more polished design.

Despite the design similarities to the NS200, the overall fit and finish of the NS400Z are commendable, and the bike’s sporty graphics and contrasting color schemes further highlight its streetfighter character

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is powered by the 373.27 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine, borrowed from the Dominar 400. This engine produces 39.4 bhp at 8800 rpm and 35 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm, ensuring strong performance for a streetfighter in this segment. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and features a slip-and-assist clutch, ensuring smooth and easy gear transitions.

Thanks to its 18 kg lighter weight compared to the Dominar 400, the NS400Z’s power-to-weight ratio enhances its acceleration. It can achieve 0-60 km/h in 2.8 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, making it quick off the line and responsive to throttle inputs. The larger 46-tooth sprocket further improves its initial acceleration, while the engine’s ability to hold high revs makes it suitable for both city commutes and spirited rides on highways.

One notable aspect is the availability of four riding modes—Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-Road—which adjust throttle response, power output, and ABS intervention depending on the selected mode. However, the vibration at both the lower and higher ends of the RPM band may reduce the bike's comfort during extended rides.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z excels in both riding dynamics and handling. The motorcycle is equipped with a 43 mm USD front fork and a 6-step adjustable rear monoshock, ensuring a good balance between comfort and sportiness. The dual-spar perimeter frame (borrowed from the Dominar) provides stiffness and stability, contributing to excellent handling.

With a kerb weight of 174 kg and a wheelbase of 1344 mm, the NS400Z is shorter and lighter than the Dominar 400, making it more agile. Its shorter wheelbase enhances cornering ability, though the bike feels slightly twitchy when pushed aggressively through tight turns. The Michelin Pilot Street tires, while offering decent grip, could have been more performance-oriented to handle the bike’s power output.

The 320 mm front disc and 230 mm rear disc brakes, paired with dual-channel ABS, provide good stopping power, though the overall braking performance could be improved with better tire grip.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z offers a comfortable riding experience, suitable for both daily commutes and long-distance rides. The 807 mm saddle height ensures that riders of varying heights can comfortably manage the bike. The seat itself is well-padded, though some riders might find the pillion seat a bit cramped.

The adjustable clutch and brake levers enhance rider comfort by allowing customization based on hand size. The riding posture is upright and slightly aggressive, thanks to the wide handlebars and rear-set footpegs, making the NS400Z comfortable for extended rides without causing fatigue.
