Just over a year after being introduced in the Indian market, Bajaj Auto has now updated the Pulsar NS400Z. Now priced at Rs 1.92 lakh, the latest version of the motorcycle is approximately Rs 8,000 more expensive than the outgoing version. The price increase mainly stems from a series of upgrades made to the motorcycle on the mechanical and engine front, aimed at improving performance and safety.

The 373 cc engine on the motorcycle now makes more peak power than before

While retaining the same 373 cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that powered the earlier generations of the KTM 390 Duke, the engine has now been significantly revised. The changes have led to an increase in power, with the NS400Z now belting out 42.4 bhp at 9,000 rpm, up from the earlier peak power output of 39.4 bhp. Bajaj also claims a decrease in 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timings by 0.9 seconds, with the bike now doing the sprint in 6.4 seconds. Top speed has also gone up, and now stands at 157 kmph, while peak rpm has increased to 10,700 rpm in Sport mode, and 10,300 rpm in Road mode. While the motorcycle continues to feature a six-speed gearbox, the system is now aided by a new ‘Sport Shift’ feature, a software-based quickshifter system that only works in Sport mode.

On the mechanical front, Bajaj also seems to have addressed another one of the NS400Z’s shortcomings, braking. The new motorcycle comes with sintered brake pads, which improve braking performance. The motorcycle now rides on Apollo Alpha H1 radial tyres, which replace the older MRF units. As a result of the tweaks, Bajaj says the stopping distance has reduced by 7 per cent. There are no changes to the suspension setup, which continues to consist of 43 mm upside-down forks and a rear monoshock.
