The Centre is targeting a fully electric fleet for public transport, including buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws under the second phase of FAME India scheme.

India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki said today that government incentives will be needed to make electric vehicles (EVs) affordable as the country moves towards the eco-friendly solution for mobility. The company, which plans to launch its first EV in India by 2020, also said it will conduct a study to find consumer insights to prepare for the journey.
According to the MoU signed by Toyota and Suzuki, both the firms will work together to develop the R&D for electric vehicles, which Maruti will sell and service in India.
First revealed in 2016, the EV3 signalled the British marque's first production entrance into the world of all-electric propulsion, following the Plus E concept in 2012.
The paper has been brought out in line with the government's vision of 100 per cent electric for public mobility and 40 per cent electric for personal mobility by 2030.
