Poor Passenger Vehicle Sales Bring Maruti Suzuki’s Total Numbers Down By 22% In May 2019
Maruti Suzuki India has reported yet another de-growth in monthly sales for May 2019, with the company selling just 134,641 units last month, compared to the 172,512 vehicles sold in May 2018, registering a decline of 22 per cent.

Carmakers have started the new financial year with a decline in sales numbers. Such a huge drop in monthly sales numbers has been witnessed after six years, after October 2011 when the segment recorded a negative growth of 19.87 per cent. Selling 247,541 units in April 2019, the segment has witnessed a significant slump of 17.07 per cent compared to the same month last year when 298,504 units were sold. Passenger cars took a massive hit recording a negative growth of 19.93 per cent at 160,279 units against 200,183 units which were sold in April 2018. Even the growth of SUVs has stopped with the segment witnessing a decline of 6.67 per cent. 73,864 units of utility vehicles were sold last month against 79,136 units which were sold in the corresponding month last year. Vans have recorded a whopping decline of 30.11 per cent selling 13,408 units compared to 19,185 units which it sold a year ago.

Jaguar Land Rover Sales Decline By 13 Per Cent In April 2019

UK-based auto giant Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has posted a decline of 13.3 per cent in sales for April 2019. The Tata Motors-owned automaker sold 39,185 units last month, a sharp decline in year-on-year volumes when compared to April 2018. The carmaker attributed to the weak demand for its vehicles largely due to the subdued market conditions in China. JLR, did, however, stated that sales of the new Jaguar I-Pace electric SUV and the new generation Range Rover Evoque continued to be encouraging during this period. Markets like the US and the UK also showed impressive growth last month.

New Car Registrations Down By 2%, Two-Wheelers By 9% In April 2019: FADA

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations today released its monthly figures for new registrations of vehicles and the numbers tell a grim story. New registrations for passenger cars were down by 2 per cent in April 2019 while two-wheelers took a massive hit de-growing by 9 per cent. FADA President, Ashish Harsharaj Kale said, "The month of April ended on a negative note. Amongst the Categories on a YoY basis, Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers, which registered highest growth during FY'19 witnessed highest fall in the month of April, while 2W and PV De-grew -9% and -2% respectively."

Two-Wheeler Sales April 2019: Royal Enfield Sales Decline For The 4th Consecutive Month

Chennai-based motorcycle maker, Royal Enfield reported a decline of 17 per cent in sales for April 2019. The manufacturer sold 62,,879 units last month, a significant drop in volumes when compared to 76,187 units that were sold in April last year, as per the regulatory filing. This is the fourth consecutive month where the bike maker has seen a drop in volumes with the overall auto industry gravely affected by the sluggish growth in volumes. Apart from RE, Hero also reported a drop of 17 per cent in sale for last month.

Hero MotoCorp reported a sale of 574,366 units in April 2019, witnessing a decline in volumes of 17.24 per cent over 694,022 units that were sold in April last year. The massive drop in sales has been attributed to the overall low buying sentiment that has gravely affected the auto industry over the past three quarters. The manufacturer, however, stated that despite the challenging market conditions, it registered over 7.8 million unit sales during the financial year 2018-19.

Tata Motors Sales Drop By 20 Per Cent In April 2019

These are trying time for the Indian auto industry that has been consistently witnessing drop in sales figures over the past months. April 2019 has seen a significant drop for most manufacturers with the latest being Tata Motors that saw a 20 per cent decline in volumes. The automaker sold 42,577 units last month, as against 53,511 units that were sold in April 2018. The company attributed to the drop in numbers to the weak consumer sentiment. The decline in sales is significant and the second highest reported yet, less than Toyota's 23 per cent drop in sales, and higher than Maruti Suzuki, which reported a 19.6 per cent decline.

TVS Motor Company recorded a strong start to the new financial year 2019-20 with a growth of five per cent in year-on-year volumes. The company sold a total of 318,937 vehicles in April this year, as opposed to 304,795 units sold during the same period last year. The growth was backed by the consistent performance of scooter and motorcycles sales in the domestic market, while the company's exports too showed significant growth for the month. The increase in volumes comes at a time when the auto industry is a downtime in the overall buying sentiment from customers.

Toyota Domestic Sales Down By 22 Per Cent

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 10,112 units in the domestic market. The domestic sales saw a drop of 22 per cent which is a big drop compared to March 2019 which showed a growth of 7 per cent. The company exported 1301 units of the Etios series this month thus clocking a total of 11,413 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 13037 units in the domestic market this month of April 2018. The company exported 834 units of the Etios series this month thus clocking a total of 13871 units.
