More than 1.9 crore two-wheelers were sold in India during the year 2017, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer (SIAM).

Mercedes-Benz India has retained its dominant number 1 position in the Indian luxury car space. Although the total sales figures for Mercedes-Benz for 2017 are not out just yet, Q1-Q3 results for Mercedes-Benz already showed sales at an impressive 11,869 units. The growth in 2017 was driven by the likes of the new E-Class along with other volume players like the C-Class and the GLC SUV. The likes of the flagship S-Class sedan and the GLE SUV too have contributed to growth in 2017 as compared to 2016 sales. Mercedes-Benz India have also capitalised on the likes of the CLA 4-door coupe that has seen robust sales since the mid-life facelift was launched late 2016 adding to the overall tally in the year 2017.

It was a good start to the second half of 2017 for luxury car makers as the government implemented GST and prices of cars from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW were slashed, leading to consumers flocking to showrooms to buy their favourite cars.

Honda has had a great December 2017 where it posted a growth of 77 per cent on its total two-wheeler sales. Also, the company crossed the 5 million sales mark for the first time, in 2017.

The new generation Ford EcoSport gave a much needed boost to sales as the company sold 5,087 vehicles in domestic market in Decemeber compared to 5,566 vehicles during the same period last year.

Hero had an exemplary performance in 2017 with over 70 lakh two-wheelers sold. The company sold 4,72,731 units in December 2017 which is a 43 per cent growth over the sales in December 2016.

The City is one of the bestselling cars from the Honda stable followed by the WR-V and the facelift just made certain that the car remained up to date before the onset of the next generation of the Verna.

Suzuki posted a growth of 50.16 per cent on its sales in December 2017 as compared to the sales in December 2016.
