Honda Activa e Expert Reviews
car&bike Expert Take
“The Honda Activa e focuses on convenience with its battery swapping system and delivers a refined, stable ride for daily city use. It suits urban riders without access to home charging, but the lack of storage and dependence on Honda’s swap station network make it less suitable for buyers looking for everyday practicality and flexibility.”
Honda Activa e Overview
Honda Activa and Indian households have shared a long-standing connection for years. With the Activa e, Honda is trying to shift to electric without losing that familiarity. Launched in late 2024, this version is built as a city-focused commuter for buyers who want the same dependability without petrol.
In our evaluation, the design stays close to what people already trust but adds a cleaner and more modern finish. It feels sporty and appealing in person, and the overall look is cohesive and likely to age well. Among family-oriented electric scooters, this stands out as one of the better-looking options right now and does not feel like a compromise.
Amaan Ahmed from car&bike tracked its performance over time and has included notes within the detailed YouTube video. He mentioned that it stays stable at speed and feels nimble in the city, even though the ride can feel slightly bouncy on rough roads. This article explores whether the electric Activa makes everyday life easier, or if that convenience comes with a catch that buyers need to consider.
Engine & Transmission
Specification | Details |
Motor | Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (Wheel-Side Mounted) |
Power | 6.0 kW (Peak), 4.2 kW (Rated) |
Torque | 22 Nm (Peak) |
Transmission | Automatic (Single-Speed) |
City Riding Experience
In city traffic, we found that the Activa e feels easy and predictable. The throttle response is smooth and progressive, with enough response for everyday use. Up to 50–60 kmph, acceleration feels linear and usable, especially in Standard mode. Ride quality is comfortable, though slightly bouncy over rough roads.
Amaan Ahmed observed,
“On the road, the Activa E feels refined and enjoyable.”
Highway Riding Experience
Designed mainly for city use, the Activa e remains stable on highways but isn’t built for long rides. It cruises comfortably at 70–80 kmph, with enough performance for short runs. It feels planted, though acceleration tapers off past 70 kmph. Overtakes need planning, and performance may be reduced at low battery levels.
Proportions & Stance
The Activa e follows a familiar family-scooter silhouette but sits on a dedicated EV platform with a longer 1310 mm wheelbase. The LED light bar and simple body panels add a modern touch without moving away from the Activa identity.
Compared to alternatives, the Activa e leans toward a stable and neutral stance rather than a bulky or overly futuristic design. We observed that the proportions are tuned for everyday usability while maintaining a slightly premium presence.
Model | Kerb Weight | Wheel Size | Visual Character |
Honda Activa e | 118–119 kg | 12-inch (front and rear) | Clean, family-focused with modern EV cues |
TVS iQube | 118 kg | 12-inch (front and rear) | Practical, slightly bulky family design |
Suzuki e-Access | 122 kg | 12-inch (front and rear) | Conservative, premium commuter look |
Build Quality & Materials
The build feels solid and well put together. Panel fit is tight, paint quality is clean, and the fibre panels feel durable. There were no visible gaps or misalignments. The switchgear, including the joystick controller, feels tactile and well-built. Smaller details like flush footrests and clean panel edges add to the premium feel. In real-world use, this should translate to good long-term durability.
Activa e Colours
Honda offers the Activa e in a set of premium shades. Here are the available colour options.
- Pearl Shallow Blue
- Pearl Serenity Blue
- Pearl Misty White
- Matt Foggy Silver Metallic
- Pearl Igneous Black
We found that the design stays close to the familiar Activa shape with a more modern finish. The LED light bar and smooth panels give it a cohesive look. Among family electric scooters, this is one of the better-looking options in the market right now.
Lighting & Front Identity
The front section keeps a clean and familiar Activa look with a modern touch. It gets an LED headlamp with a signature LED light bar across the apron. We found that the lighting is clear and suitable for everyday city riding, though the spread can feel slightly limited on darker roads.
Side Profile & Rear Section
The side profile remains simple with smooth body panels and a longer stance. The flat floorboard and clean lines keep it practical and balanced. The rear section is minimal and avoids unnecessary styling.
Notable exterior highlights include:
- 12-inch alloy wheels that improve stance and stability.
- Good fit and finish with neatly integrated panels.
- A simple LED tail lamp that keeps the rear clean.
Practical Integration
Practicality is where we had mixed reviews. The scooter gets a flat floorboard, front pockets and a USB-C charging port for daily use. However, we found the pockets to be shallow and not very usable. The lack of under-seat storage is a clear drawback, as the batteries take up the entire space.
Honda has kept the Activa e lineup simple with two variants. Both use the same 3.0 kWh swappable battery setup and 6 kW motor. The price difference comes from the display and added connectivity features.
Variant | Key Highlights | Ex-Showroom Price (Approx.) |
Standard | five-inch TFT display, LED lighting | Rs. 1,17,500 – 1,19,500 |
RoadSync Duo | seven-inch TFT touchscreen, navigation, Smart Key | Rs. 1,52,000 – 1,52,700 |
The Standard variant covers basic needs with a simple interface. As we evaluated the higher variant, we found that the larger screen and connected features make everyday use easier.
The 3.0 kWh dual swappable battery setup delivers consistent city efficiency. In mixed riding conditions, including traffic, steady commutes and occasional Sport mode use, the range remained predictable with some variation based on riding style.
| Riding Condition | Real-World Range |
| Calm City Riding (Eco/Standard) | 70–85 km |
| Aggressive Riding (Sport Mode) | 55–65 km |
| Mixed Usage | 65–75 km |
Even when we rode it aggressively, we found the drop in range was gradual. With battery swapping, downtime is minimal, though overall convenience depends on access to the swap network.
Instrumentation & Connectivity
The Activa e gets a TFT display, with a five-inch unit on the standard variant and a seven-inch touchscreen on the RoadSync Duo. It shows speed, range, battery status and ride mode in a clean layout. During evaluation, we found the screen crisp, lag-free and easy to read in bright sunlight.
The interface uses a five-way joystick on the handlebars. We found it intuitive and easy to use. Bluetooth connectivity on the higher variant adds navigation, call alerts and music control via the Honda RoadSync Duo app. It works well in daily use, though it relies on stable connectivity.
Amaan Ahmed noted during testing,
“The display sets a new benchmark in the segment and the joystick controller is one of the best seen on an electric scooter so far.”
Practical Technology & Rider-Focused Integration
The Activa e focuses on simple, usable tech. The battery swapping system is the key highlight. During testing, we found that it removes the need to charge the scooter, making it convenient for city use.
Other additions include:
- Smart key with keyless start
- Reverse mode for parking
- USB-C charging port
- Geo-fencing and live tracking
These features improve daily usability without adding complexity.
Safety Technology
Braking is handled by a 190 mm front disc and 130 mm rear drum with a combi-brake system. During testing, we found it predictable and stable for city riding. Regenerative braking is fixed and activates on throttle closure. It feels mild and natural. Overall, the system works in the background to keep the ride safe and easy.
City Handling
The steering is neutral and predictable, making it easy to move through traffic. Throttle response is smooth in Standard mode, which suits stop-go riding. Low-speed manoeuvres are simple, and the scooter feels nimble in tight spaces. The suspension absorbs smaller bumps well, though sharper ones are slightly noticeable.
Highway Stability
The Activa e feels stable at typical city and ring road speeds. We tested it on open stretches and found it remains composed up to around 80 kmph. The longer wheelbase and 12-inch wheels help it stay planted. Acceleration is steady, and overtakes between 30 and 60 kmph are handled comfortably. Beyond this, performance tapers. The scooter stays stable under braking and feels predictable at higher speeds.
Suspension Behaviour
The suspension is set up for a balance between comfort and control. We found it absorbs regular bumps well and keeps the ride composed on most roads. On rough patches, sharper bumps are felt through the seat. Under braking, the front remains stable, and the scooter does not feel unsettled. It maintains balance well without feeling too soft.
Rider & Pillion Comfort
The Activa e gets a long, well-padded seat with an upright riding posture. We found it comfortable for daily city rides without causing strain. The flat floorboard adds usability, offering space for feet and small bags. The pillion seat is spacious, and the grab rail feels secure. Comfort is suited for city use, though rough roads can be felt due to the slightly firm setup.
The Honda Activa e is available in two versions, the Standard and the higher-spec RoadSync Duo.
- The Standard variant comes with a five-inch TFT display and essential features.
- The RoadSync Duo adds a seven-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and a smart key.
Both variants use the same motor, battery swapping system, and core hardware.
After evaluating both variants, here is how we would narrow it down:
- Best Overall Pick – Standard Variant: You get the same performance, ride quality, and battery swapping convenience without paying extra for the touchscreen. It offers better value for most users.
- Best for Tech-Focused Buyers – RoadSync Duo: You get the larger touchscreen, navigation, and smart features. If you want a more modern interface and added convenience, this is the one to consider.
- Best for Practical Buyers – Consider Your Usage: We found that storage is limited, and the scooter depends entirely on the swap network. This can affect daily usability depending on your needs.
If we had to pick one for most users, we would go with the Standard variant. It delivers the core experience without pushing the price too high.
The Activa e sits in the premium family electric scooter space, focusing on convenience and reliability. Its closest rivals are the TVS iQube and Suzuki e-Access, which differ in charging approach, practicality, and overall usability.
Segment Comparison
Model | Motor Output | Claimed Range | Key Strength | Ex-Showroom Price (Approx.) |
Honda Activa e | 6.0 kW / 22 Nm | 102 km | Battery swapping, refined ride | Rs. 1.17 – 1.52 lakh |
TVS iQube (3.4 kWh) | 4.4 kW | 100 km | Practical storage, home charging | Rs. 0.95 – 1.85 lakh |
Suzuki e-Access | 4.1 kW | 95 km | Battery safety, build quality | Rs. 1.88 lakh |
The TVS iQube focuses on practicality with usable storage and home charging, while the Suzuki e-Access prioritises safety. The Activa e stands out with its battery swapping system, though it lacks storage and depends on the swap network.
- Choose the Honda Activa e if convenience and zero charging time are the most important.
- Choose the TVS iQube if you desire a more practical and flexible riding experience.
- Choose the Suzuki e-Access if you are concerned with safety and durability.
Pros
- Refined and stable ride quality for city use
- Smooth throttle response with usable performance
- Clean, familiar design with a premium finish
- Excellent display and intuitive joystick control
Cons
- No under-seat storage
- Fully dependent on the swapping network
- Monthly subscription increases running cost
- Front storage is shallow and limited
- The ride can feel slightly bouncy on bad roads
Verdict
The Honda Activa e focuses on convenience over traditional practicality. It is not a do-it-all scooter, but a city-focused machine built around battery swapping and everyday ease of use. In our evaluation, it felt refined and easy in traffic, with smooth throttle response and stable handling.
Ride comfort was good overall, though rough roads brought out a slight bounce. However, the long-term ownership cost remains a key factor due to the subscription-based battery model. That balance between ease and compromise is what ultimately defines the overall experience.
As Amaan Ahmed summed up,
“The Activa E offers excellent convenience but at a higher long term cost”
