car&bike Expert Take
“Honda fired a massive shot at the retro cruiser segment with this motorcycle by mimicking old-school charm while adding elements of modern reliability. The motorcycle’s exhaust note rings loud enough to turn heads, and it easily satisfies buyers who want vintage looks without the headache of constant garage visits.”
Honda H Ness CB 350 Overview
Honda clearly knew exactly what Indian buyers wanted when they built this modern classic. By putting heritage styling and current technology together, the brand has managed to bring about a highly usable retro machine in the market. You get a thumping 348.36 cc engine inside a handsome double-cradle frame here.
The motorcycle remains exclusive to the Honda BigWing dealer network, which limits its reach but ensures a premium buying experience. It has some unique elements like selectable torque control and a surprisingly light slip-and-assist clutch; additions that make the bike a friendly two-wheeler even for beginners. The brand did not just slap a vintage badge on a commuter here. They engineered a proper, full-sized cruiser from scratch.
To check how well the bike performs out in the real world, Preetam Bora had taken it for a sprint. He found several interesting things to say about the H Ness CB 350, right from its performance to its looks. His insights find a place in this review, too, giving further authority to our piece.
This motorcycle relies entirely on a strong, consistent mid-range to get you moving; it trades high-revving madness for a calm, composed surge of speed.
Engine & Transmission
| Specification | Details |
| Engine | 348.36 cc, Air-Cooled, Single-Cylinder |
| Power | 20.78 bhp @ 5,500 rpm |
| Torque | 30 Nm @ 3,000 rpm |
| Transmission | Five-Speed Manual |
City Riding Experience
Riding through heavy traffic reveals how well the fuel injection is tuned. The throttle response feels crisp. The clutch lever is incredibly light, sparing your left hand during bumper-to-bumper jams.
According to Preetam,
“The 349 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 20.8 bhp at 5,500 rpm, but the 30 Nm of torque is best in class, and peaks at a low 3,000 rpm.”
However, the tall gearing means you cannot lazily sit in third gear at 20 kmph. You have to work the gearbox to prevent the engine from knocking.
Highway Riding Experience
Out on the open road, the counterbalanced engine truly shines. It holds 90 kmph all day without sending a single vibration to the footpegs.
Preetam observes,
“The engine however, doesn't mind being revved, so despite the narrow power band, and tall gearing, the CB 350 doesn't disappoint.”
Overtaking at triple-digit speeds requires a downshift, as the power tapers off near the redline. Still, the five-speed gearbox shifts cleanly every single time.
Pros
- Highly refined 348.36 cc engine with a light slip-and-assist clutch
- Beautiful neo-retro design with excellent paint quality
- Standard traction control and dual-channel ABS
Cons
- Tall gearing requires frequent downshifts in city traffic
- Awkward horn button placement takes time to get used to
- Limited availability through Honda's BigWing dealer network
Verdict
The Honda H Ness CB350 is a thoughtfully engineered motorcycle that successfully challenges the established royalty in India. It’s an incredibly smooth and reliable machine that sounds remarkably throaty, and it also sways clear of imitating the heavy, mechanical roughness of older retro bikes.
The engine pulls strongly off the line, meaning your overtakes will almost always be effortless. Plus, the added safety net of traction control gives you peace of mind on wet roads. Some nitpicks are there, like how the tall gearing means you will be working the gearbox more often in dense traffic, or the limited reach of the bike’s BigWing sales network.
But if you have a showroom nearby, this motorcycle definitely demands your attention. It delivers high-quality construction, solid fuel efficiency, and a comfortable ride.
Preetam summarises,
“The Honda H Ness CB 350 is definitely a well-rounded product and has the possibility of creating a new benchmark in the segment.”
