The car will be available in 4 variants – E, S, SX and SX(O) and is the company’s first car in this very trending subcompact SUV segment. The Hyundai Venue is inspired heavily from the automaker's bigger offerings in terms of design including the Santa Fe and the Palisade. The massive cascading grille takes prominence up front with the chrome mesh grille, while the split headlamps look in place and come with projector lens on the top variants.

The SUV gets accentuated wheel arches that not only make the offering look wider but give it a rugged appearance as well, while the rear sports boxy LED taillights that look smart. The SUV also comes with projector fog lamps. In terms of dimensions, the new Venue measures 3995 mm in length, 1770 mm on width, and 1590 mm in height. The wheelbase measures at 2500 mm. Hyundai says the car is built using 69 per cent Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS), which have contributed to achieving dynamic stiffness and improved structural rigidity. The Venue also gets a host of segment first features including wireless charging, air purifier, HD Display screen, eco-coating, Arkamys Sound, wheel air curtains and more. In fact, the SUV comes with Hyundai's Blue Link connectivity tech that makes the Venue India's first connected SUV and adds 33 new features, 10 of which are India specific. The company has tied up with service provider Vodafone-Idea for the new system and brings features like auto crash notification, panic notification, SOS/Emergency Assistance, stolen vehicle tracking with immobilisation (only on the 1.0-litre version) and more. There are features like remote engine start/stop, remote climate control, voice recognition, vehicle relationship management among other tech.

The Hyundai Venue also comes with electric sunroof, cruise control, rear AC vents, cornering lamps and a cooled glovebox. The SUV also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The cabin gets an all-black treatment for India, while the international spec could get a dual-tone finish, and there is brushed silver finish on the three-spoke steering wheel, gearshift knob, and the air-con vents. The instrument console is a dual-pod unit with a large MID unit in the centre. Power on the Hyundai Venue comes from three engine options including the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor that is tuned to produce 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with an all-new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission in a first for Hyundai India, along with a manual gearbox. There's also the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol that churns out 82 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque, and is offered with a 5-speed manual. Lastly, there is the 1.4-litre diesel as well with 89 bhp and 220 Nm of peak torque, and is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In terms of safety, the Hyundai Venue gets six airbags, speed sensing door lock, ABS with ESC, VSP, Hill Assist Control, BAS, ISOFIX seats and more.

I took a test drive today. Power of the car is pleasing and definitely a quality material but... Concern raises when it comes to comfortable seating position. Especially in rear for 3 passengers. India is a family bound nation and space is a real matter of fact next to mileage. That's where Venue scores low! I'm moving onto i20 which is best in class in every aspect.

1.Have purchased the hyundai venue 1.0 turbo petrol automatic in july 2019 2.In bumper to bumper traffic, the dct transmission overheats rapidly in 20-30 mins;you will need to stop the car for a period of time 3.The only solution presented by hyundai and modi hyundai is to switch between Neutral and Drive Mode when you stop the car either on signals or anywhere. Thus defeating the purpose of purchasing an automatic car 4. Press the brakes completely and not midway 5. During the pre sales and sales cycle; the sales folks did not inform that the car would overheat !! 6. If you have traffic in your area; do not buy the DCT version!!! the above issues are also mentioned in the car manual (which you get post buying the car) 7. There is a lag below 2000 RPMand you go to live with it. 8. On a clean road on the highway, this car functions v well; there is no over heating
Super suv car.

Hyundai Venue Expert Review

The Hyundai Venue marked the South Korean carmaker's entry into the subcompact SUV space, however, beyond that Venue managed to surpass the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to become the best-selling SUV in India. While now that title resides with the Venue's older sibling Creta, nonetheless Hyundai's sub-4 metre SUV continues to be one of the top-selling SUVs in India. It was the first fully connected SUV in the country, and much recently we saw the introduction of a few new variants and clutch-less manual transmission technology, which Hyundai calls - iMT (intelligent manual transmission).

Design

The Hyundai Venue gets the quintessential SUV proportions with boxy design, smooth edges, a large grille, underbody cladding and roof rails among others. The split lighting setup, which large LED projector headlamps and sleek indicators positioned above it, adds a modern touch while the bumper cladding and faux skid plate give it a rugged look. The flared wheel arches and sculpted muscular line add character to the design, while the LED taillamps and centrally-positioned 'Venue' logo add to its premiumness.

Cabin

The dark interior of the Hyundai Venue's cabin adds to its stylish design, which is highlighted by the suspended touchscreen display that features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the BlueLink connected car system. In addition to voice command and smartwatch connectivity, the system offers remote access, geofencing, vehicle tracking a tonne of other connectivity features. The SUV also get premium fabric upholstery with the leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, an air purifier, rear AC vents and an electric sunroof among others.

Driving Experience

Hyundai offers the Venue with three engine options, 2 petrol and 1 diesel motor, which includes - a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2-litre engine is the tried and tested one and it continues to make 82 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque and offers quite a decent performance, and it comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, the star of the show here is the turbo-petrol unit. Churning out 118 bhp and 172 Nm torque, it adds the fun element to the Venue. The light clutch and smooth gearshifts from the 6-speed unit make it a breeze to drive around the city, while the powerful engine is capable enough the handle long highway runs as well. Of course, you also get the convenience for the new iMT gearbox and DCT automatic transmission. The diesel engine is the same one as on the Kia Seltos, but here it has been detuned to make 99 bhp and 240 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine still feels toque and fun to drive.

Safety

The Hyundai Venue is loaded with safety tech, which includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, electronic stability control, and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC). Of course, you have other elements like rear parking camera, auto headlamps with cornering function, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seatbelt warning, parking sensors, and speed sensing door locks, among others.

Price

The Hyundai Venue is priced starting at 6.75 lakh and goes up to Rs. 11.59 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi). What's surprising is that before the Sonet was launched the Venue was the most affordable SUV in the segment, and even now it’s just Rs. 4000 more expensive than former, that is for the base variant. So, it undercuts almost all its rivals, namely the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza by almost Rs. 60,000, the Tata Nexon by Rs. 25,000, and the Mahindra XUV300 by Rs. 1.2 lakh.

pros

Pros

  • Comes With BlueLink Connected Car Technology

  • Multiple engine options including a 1.0 turbo-petrol unit

  • Aggressive pricing

cons

Cons

  • No diesel automatic option

  • Too many variants to choose from

  • Cramped rear seats with limited space

Verdict

The Hyundai Venue is currently one of the best options in the subcompact SUV space, and its competitive pricing makes it a no-brainer. The SUV is stylish, feature-packed and offers great performance. However, it’s closest rival Sonet does come with a few extra premium features and a more powerful diesel engine as well, but it’s still up to Rs. 1.2-lakh more expensive than the Venue.
