  • What's New on MG 2026 Hector?

    Introduction

    • MG launched the updated version of the Hector on December 15, 2025 in India.
    • This is the fourth styling update since its launch in India.
    • Most of these comprise cosmetic enhancements to keep the Hector fresh and relevant in a competitive segment.
    • As a result, the SUV gets a slight nip and tuck, with aesthetic changes outside and a feature upgrade inside.

    MG Hector Facelift - Exterior

    • The facelifted Hector brings a fresh look with a redesigned fascia and a new ‘Aura Hex’ grille.
    • Updated ‘Aura Sculpt’ bumpers and ‘Aura Bolt’ alloy wheels form a part of the handful changes outside.
    • MG has introduced a new dark blue colour that adds to the appeal.

    MG Hector Facelift - Interior

    • Inside the cabin of the 2026 MG Hector, is a new dual-tone urban tan upholstery.
    • However, overall seating layout, equipment, and features remain more or less the same.
    • But then, the huge infotainment screen gets a segment first ‘i-swipe’ feature.
    • The latter gets a two-finger gesture to control ac temperature and fan speed, while three-finger gesture changes music tracks and adjusts volume.
    • Apart from this, the carmaker has not brought in any other improvements in terms of comfort and convenience features.

MG Hector and Hector Plus Facelift - Powertrain

    • We didn’t expect MG to make any changes to the powertrain.
    • And as expected, the 2026 Hector gets the tried-and-tested engines.
    • This includes a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mated to either a six-speed manual or CVT.
    • On the other hand, there is a 2.0-litre diesel mill mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

MG Hector 2026 car&bike Expert Take

When you first see the MG Hector 2026, you need to understand what this update really is. This is the third facelift, not a ground-up reinvention. The bold Aura Hex grille gives it even more presence on the road, and you definitely notice that. But beyond the sharper face, this is a refinement exercise, not an overhaul. The real headline is the price correction. That move changes the conversation and makes you take a second look.
The Hector still leads the segment in sheer screen size and tech depth. The cabin feels modern, connected, and loaded. What hasn’t changed, however, is the absence of a diesel automatic, and if that matters to you, it still stings. It becomes even more relevant in 2026 because MG has temporarily paused the diesel engine for the five-seater Hector (it continues in the Hector Plus), making the lack of a diesel automatic option an even bigger gap in the lineup.

As Amaan Ahmed says in the video, “It says all-new, but I think they meant barely new.” The Hector doesn’t reinvent itself. It repositions itself.

With nearly a decade in automotive journalism, Amaan Ahmed approaches updates like the MG Hector 2026 with a clear focus on real-world relevance rather than brochure changes.
This evaluation included dense Kolkata traffic and extended highway runs to assess usability, ride comfort, stability, and in-cabin tech. In the city, throttle response and steering weight were tested in stop-go conditions. On open highways, the SUV proved stable and relaxed, exactly where it feels most at home.
As Amaan Ahmed puts it, “It meaningfully makes no difference visually.” The real shift isn’t the design, it’s the price recalibration, which changes the value equation more than the styling update ever could.

Step into the mid-size SUV segment and you’ll realise how competitive it has become. The MG Hector has been around for over six years now, and this is its third facelift. That tells you two things: it has staying power, and it refuses to exit quietly. The MG Hector 2026 doesn’t arrive as a revolution. It arrives as a recalibration.
Positioned against rivals like the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos, it still plays the “big, bold, tech-loaded” card confidently. That diesel automatic gap still remains, and if that’s important to you, it’s worth noting upfront.
What truly changes the equation this time is the aggressive price repositioning. That move makes you pause and reconsider what you’re getting for the money. You still get that massive screen, commanding road presence, and feature-loaded cabin. As Amaan Ahmed suggests in the video, the visual change may not feel dramatic, but the value shift certainly is.
The MG Hector 2026 isn’t trying to reinvent itself. It’s trying to stay relevant and in this segment, that matters just as much.

The MG Hector 2026 range is broad, but the core formula remains the same across trims — a large, tech-focused SUV built around the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.

Style / Shine

These entry trims offer the essentials: manual gearbox, large infotainment screen, six airbags as standard, and connected car technology.

Smart Pro / Select Pro

Mid variants introduce the 14-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, and ADAS availability.

Sharp Pro / Savvy Pro

Top trims add Level 2 ADAS, premium upholstery, a fully digital cabin, and the complete connected tech suite.
Across the lineup, the drivetrain remains unchanged. The differences lie primarily in feature depth rather than mechanical variation.

The MG Hector 2026 continues to prioritise presence over subtlety.

Front

The Aura Hex grille dominates the fascia. It gives the SUV a broader, more muscular identity. LED lighting elements frame the grille neatly, and the overall face feels upright and assertive. In traffic, it commands attention without trying too hard.

Side Profile

From the side, the 18-inch Aura Bolt alloy wheels reinforce its stance. The proportions remain familiar, but the detailing feels slightly more cohesive this time.
Key highlights:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Strong shoulder line
  • Large glass area

Rear

At the rear, the chrome strip stretching across the tailgate enhances visual width. The SUV looks planted and substantial. It is not delicate, and it does not pretend to be.
As Amaan Ahmed puts it, “It is bold. It is imposing.” If you prefer understated styling, this may not be your taste. But if you want road presence, it delivers confidently.

Step inside, and the Hector reminds you of its strongest trait — drama. The 14-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard and continues to be the centrepiece.

Cabin Experience

The updated system now runs on 10GB RAM, which improves responsiveness noticeably. Transitions feel quicker, and daily usability improves.
Cabin highlights:

  • 14-inch infotainment with 10GB RAM
  • Gesture-based controls
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Tan upholstery (Hector Plus)
  • Ice grey finish (five-seater)

The panoramic sunroof enhances the sense of openness. Ventilated seats prove useful in Indian summers. Materials feel consistent with the segment.

Rear Comfort

Rear space remains one of Hector’s strengths. Three adults can sit comfortably for short to medium journeys. Cushioning is supportive, and headroom is generous.
However, rear seat ventilation is absent. In peak summer conditions, that may be noticeable. Also, considering that some rivals in 2026 have started offering rear-seat ventilation, its absence here feels like a missed opportunity for this update.

Technology continues to be Hector’s biggest strength. The 14-inch HD touchscreen remains the centrepiece, and the additional RAM makes the experience quicker and smoother.

Key technology features:

  • 14-inch HD touchscreen
  • 10GB RAM
  • Gesture-based climate controls
  • 360-degree camera
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • Connected car suite

The gesture-based controls feel futuristic at first. As Amaan Ahmed points out, “You can use two fingers to swipe up and increase the temperature.” It sounds simple, but when you try it in traffic, it feels surprisingly intuitive. The 360-degree camera helps in tight urban parking, and Level 2 ADAS adds confidence on highways.

Voice commands and connected car tech make everyday use easier. Vehicle status can be checked, features can be controlled remotely, and stay connected even when you’re not inside.

Technology remains Hector’s biggest weapon. If you value screens, features, and digital sophistication, this SUV still leads the conversation confidently.

Under the hood, the MG Hector 2026 doesn’t surprise you with new hardware. In fact, as Amaan Ahmed clearly says, “Engines and transmission options are completely unchanged.” That honesty matters. What you get is familiar performance — but still competitive in this segment.

Source: car&bike

The petrol engine feels smooth and refined in city traffic, but you will notice that fuel efficiency isn’t its biggest strength.
Steering feels slightly heavy at low speeds, which you’ll sense in tight urban lanes. But on highways, that weight adds stability. This SUV is a comfortable cruiser. It prefers straight roads and long drives over aggressive cornering. It’s not built to feel sporty — it’s built to feel substantial.

What Works

  • Strong mid-range torque
  • Stable highway cruising
  • Comfortable power delivery

Limitations

  • No diesel automatic option
  • Efficiency not class-leading
  • Slightly heavy steering at low speeds

If youwant excitement, you may look elsewhere. But if you want torque, presence, and relaxed cruising ability, it delivers exactly that.

The MG Hector feels every bit its size on the road, and that size shapes its dynamics. This is a comfort-first SUV, tuned to prioritise passenger ease over sharp responses.

Ride Quality

In city conditions, the suspension absorbs smaller imperfections confidently. Broken patches, expansion joints and uneven tarmac are handled without harshness filtering into the cabin. The overall character is composed rather than stiff.
Where the weight becomes noticeable is over larger undulations and sharper speed breakers. There is mild vertical movement, but never discomfort. The tuning clearly favours cushioning over tight body control — and for its target audience, that makes sense.
What stands out in daily use:

  • Comfortable low-speed ride
  • Good isolation from smaller road imperfections
  • Stable highway composure
  • Slight bounce over larger speed breakers

On highways, the Hector settles into a steady, planted rhythm. It feels most natural at cruising speeds, where straight-line stability becomes one of its strengths.

Handling Character

This is not a dynamic cornering SUV — and it does not try to be one. Steering feels slightly heavy at low speeds, especially in tight parking scenarios. As speeds rise, that weight translates into reassuring stability.
Body roll is present in quicker direction changes, but it remains predictable and controlled. The Hector prefers smooth inputs over aggressive driving.
In summary:

  • Stable at 100–120 kmph
  • Predictable body movement
  • Steering weight adds confidence at speed
  • Not designed for enthusiastic cornering

As Amaan Ahmed puts it, “It’s built to cruise, not carve corners.” That line captures the character perfectly. If you want a stable highway companion with commanding presence, you’ll appreciate it. If you want agility, this isn’t that SUV.

Safety has always been a strong talking point for the MG Hector 2026, and on paper, it looks well-equipped.
Here’s what strengthens your confidence further:

  • Six airbags standard
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • 360-degree camera
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Strong body structure
  • Connected emergency alerts

The airbags include front, side and curtain units, covering most common impact scenarios.
It has not been recently crash tested under updated Indian protocols. Feature depth is strong, but official crash ratings are not the headline story here.

As Amaan Ahmed says, “Safety tech is generous.” And that’s accurate. You get features that enhance your confidence. But ultimately, safe driving still depends on you.

When you buy the MG Hector 2026, mileage probably isn’t your first priority — and that’s important to acknowledge honestly. This SUV focuses more on space, comfort, and technology than outright efficiency. Still, in real-world driving across city traffic and highways, here’s what you can expect:

Engine

Highway

11 kmpl

14 kmpl

Source: car&bike

In heavy city traffic, the petrol engine feels smooth but you will see fuel consumption rise. It is slightly better on open highways, but not yet class-leading.
As Amaan Ahmed honestly puts it, “Efficiency isn’t its strongest suit.” And that’s fair. If maximum efficiency is your primary concern, there are more economical options in the segment. Buyers choosing the Hector typically prioritise comfort, size and technology over outright mileage.

The MG Hector 2026 sits in a fiercely competitive mid-size SUV space. When you compare it against the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the differences become clear very quickly.

Here’s the honest take. The Tata Sierra is more powerful, feels more modern and lifestyle-focused but demands more money. The Kia Seltos offers turbo petrol excitement and better petrol efficiency. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara brings strong hybrid technology, which clearly wins on mileage.
Where the MG Hector 2026 fights back is on screen size, cabin tech drama, and its aggressive price cut. You get presence and features that still feel premium. Rivals like the Grand Vitara focus more heavily on hybrid efficiency, while the Hector leans toward space, screen tech, and road presence.
But you don’t get drivetrain innovation like hybrid tech or a diesel automatic.
As Amaan Ahmed rightly asks, “Will this price reduction be enough?” If you value bold styling and tech dominance, the Hector still makes a strong case. If efficiency or innovation matters more, rivals may pull you in.

Pros

  • Biggest screen in the segment
  • Massive road presence guaranteed
  • Feature list still dominates rivals
  • Aggressive pricing improves value

Cons

  • No diesel automatic option
  • Petrol efficiency not class-leading
  • Update feels barely significant
  • Heavy in tight city traffic
  • Rivals offer smarter hybrid tech

Verdict

The MG Hector 2026 is not a revolution. It is a calculated move. The price correction changes everything. Suddenly, the big screen, the tech depth, and the road presence feel more justified. If you are a tech-first buyer who wants size, drama, and features without crossing into premium SUV pricing, this makes strong sense.
But let’s be clear — this is not built for driving enthusiasts. There is no new engine, no diesel automatic, and no radical redesign. What you get is familiarity with better value. If you see the MG Hector 2026 Year update as a smart repositioning strategy, you’ll appreciate it. The Hector doesn’t evolve dramatically. It competes aggressively.

Best For

  • Tech-obsessed urban SUV buyers
  • Highway cruising families
  • Value-focused big SUV seekers
  • Screen-first cabin lovers

Not Ideal For

  • Driving thrill seekers
  • Hybrid efficiency chasers
  • Diesel automatic demanders
  • Minimalist design fans

MG Hector is a great car for daily driving, but the fuel economy could be better. The car is loaded with features, and the cabin is very spacious. However, the size makes it a bit tricky to maneuver in tight city traffic. Overall, a good buy but could improve in some areas.

The build quality of the Hector is solid, and it feels premium. However, the size can make it challenging to park in tight spaces. Fuel efficiency could also be better, but I love the tech and features it offers. Overall, it’s a good option for those who prioritize comfort and tech.
