Introduction
- MG launched the updated version of the Hector on December 15, 2025 in India.
- This is the fourth styling update since its launch in India.
- Most of these comprise cosmetic enhancements to keep the Hector fresh and relevant in a competitive segment.
- As a result, the SUV gets a slight nip and tuck, with aesthetic changes outside and a feature upgrade inside.
MG Hector Facelift - Exterior
- The facelifted Hector brings a fresh look with a redesigned fascia and a new ‘Aura Hex’ grille.
- Updated ‘Aura Sculpt’ bumpers and ‘Aura Bolt’ alloy wheels form a part of the handful changes outside.
- MG has introduced a new dark blue colour that adds to the appeal.
MG Hector Facelift - Interior
- Inside the cabin of the 2026 MG Hector, is a new dual-tone urban tan upholstery.
- However, overall seating layout, equipment, and features remain more or less the same.
- But then, the huge infotainment screen gets a segment first ‘i-swipe’ feature.
- The latter gets a two-finger gesture to control ac temperature and fan speed, while three-finger gesture changes music tracks and adjusts volume.
- Apart from this, the carmaker has not brought in any other improvements in terms of comfort and convenience features.
MG Hector and Hector Plus Facelift - Powertrain
- We didn’t expect MG to make any changes to the powertrain.
- And as expected, the 2026 Hector gets the tried-and-tested engines.
- This includes a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mated to either a six-speed manual or CVT.
- On the other hand, there is a 2.0-litre diesel mill mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Hector still leads the segment in sheer screen size and tech depth. The cabin feels modern, connected, and loaded. What hasn’t changed, however, is the absence of a diesel automatic, and if that matters to you, it still stings. It becomes even more relevant in 2026 because MG has temporarily paused the diesel engine for the five-seater Hector (it continues in the Hector Plus), making the lack of a diesel automatic option an even bigger gap in the lineup.

I opted for the Smart DCT option (Aurora Silver) at MG’s Showroom Ahmedabad which is owned by Concept motors. I had driven MG before booking the car itself. But after booking it I still wanted a test drive. So 2 weeks after booking the car i went down for a test drive. I was with the same sales person who sold me the car. I was just cruising around on the service road when there was a thud noise in the Engine and then the car stopped. I looked on to the information cluster ahead and it showed orange coloured exclamation mark to which the sales person told that there is some issue with the transmission of the car. He called some guy from the technical dept where he told me that transmission had failed and it was the second time something like this happened. The car had only 4200km on the test runs. I cancelled the booking the next day to which their manager told me to wait and let’s see if there was any issue or not. But as I was adamant they proceeded with the refund. Though they told me that the refund will be processed within 15 days, it took them 28 days just to process it and give me the cheque that too after alot of follow ups. The car is good on cosmetics but I don’t think so that you can trust the engine in long run. MG still needs to take care and refine the engine according to indian road conditions.
