Car manufacturers will be showcasing a host of electric cars at the 2018 Auto Expo, and people will get a glimpse of what to expect in the near future from mainstream carmakers in India as they move towards making the task of moving towards electric mobility in 2030 a success

At the moment, Hyundai is yet to finalize whether it will be the Ioniq EV sedan or the full electric version of SUV Kona, but if this does happen, Hyundai will be the first manufacturer to introduce an all-electric vehicle in India, even before Maruti Suzuki, which plans to launch its first EV by 2020.

Showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show as an concept, the Porsche Mission E will come with an electric motor with a travel range of almost 500kms on a single charge. The company will launch the Mission E electric car by 2020.

Tata Motors' has already announced that it will present 26 smart mobility solutions across its passenger and commercial vehicles at the expo to be held from February 9-14.

The problems included Tesla needing to make some batteries by hand and borrowing scores of employees from one of its suppliers to help with manual assembly.

Rimac aims to take on Tesla's electric roadster, which was unveiled in November last year. Official name of the Concept Two will also be revealed closer to the unveil.

The Centre may dole out incentives to promote electric vehicles in the country by considering lower GST and extending tax benefit for buyers in this week's Budget for 2018-19, say sources. The announcement is expected in view of the government's aim to have 100 per cent electric vehicles for public mobility and 40 per cent for personal mobility by 2030.

California Governor set a new target of 5 million zero-emission vehicles in California by 2030, up from a prior target of 1.5 million by 2025.
