Volkswagen and Intel Corp's Mobileye are planning to roll out Israel's first ride-hailing service using self-driving cars starting early next year. Volkswagen will provide the electric vehicles and Mobileye its autonomous driving technology.

India is the world's fourth-largest auto market, but previous attempts to boost private electric-car ownership flopped. The government likely scaled back because it fears disrupting an industry that contributes to about 7 percent of the total gross domestic product

Fast charging is a crucial factor in luring customers to electric cars, reflected in moves across the sector. BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen for instance have jointly pledged to open 400 ultra-fast charging stations in Europe by 2020, aiming to close the gap with Tesla.

The manufacturing facility is scheduled for completion in 2020. It continues its 2.5 billion Euros investment in new technology globally.

Whether it is Tesla or the Volkswagen Group or Mercedes-Benz globally, or Tata Motors and Mahindra in India - all are striving towards cleaner mobility solutions. And they too are relying on a lot of the innovation happening - not in their own labs, but at the supplier end with component makers stepping up their game. Enter Bosch.

Mahindra Racing has announced its driver line-up for the Formula E Championship Season 5 and the Indian team has signed Jerome d'Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein as its two drivers. The new drivers replace Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld at Mahindra Racing, with the latter moving into an advisory role within the team as a reserve and test driver. Rosenqvist will move into IndyCar for 2019 with Chip Ganassi Racing. D'Ambrosio, is already a Formula E veteran, having won the championship twice and has been a part of the championship since inception. The Belgian driver moves from Dragon Racing to Mahindra.

Under the partnership, Taiwanese giant KYMCO and India's electric scooter manufacturer, Twenty Two Motors, will offer a range of electric mobility solutions in India.
