Maruti's total profit went down by 17.2 per cent, compared to the company's performance over the same period of the previous year. The company's profit after tax in the same quarter previous fiscal year stood at Rs 1,799 crore.

BMW Motorrad registered a growth of 0.9 per cent in premium two-wheeler sales globally with 165,566 vehicles sold at the end of December 2018, as opposed to 164,153 units delivered to customers the previous year. The manufacturer registered significant growth in several key markets across the world including India, while established markets like Europe and USA continued to be the growth drivers for the company's motorcycle business. Helping the company build volumes were the made-in-India BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS motorcycles as one of the top five selling models. The manufacturer now is aiming to achieve a sales target of 200,000 units in the year 2020.

Honda Cars India today announced a price increase on all its models, which will be effective from February 1, 2019. The company had already increased prices of its cars in January 2019 by up to 4 per cent and the coming month will see its cars getting costlier. The price increase on the CR-V will be Rs. 10,000 and on other models upto Rs. 7,000 depending on the variant.

The new-generation Honda Amaze has recently crossed the 63,000 sales mark in India, as of December 2018. The car which was launched in May 2018 has achieved this sales milestone in just seven months, with monthly average sales of over 7800 units.

The move could give a strong push to the passenger vehicles sales which otherwise have been cruising in the slow lane in the second and third quarter of Fiscal Year 2018-19 and the industry isn't expecting the performance to improve significantly even in the last quarter. Moreover, luxury carmakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover who generally use a high level of export components in locally assembled models would be the major gainers from such a move.

2018 was a mixed bag for carmakers in India as there were several roadblocks which the industry body didn't see coming. At the start of 2018 the sales started on a good note as the first quarter of the Fiscal Year 2018 posted healthy sales. However, that didn't go for long on the wake of several disruptions which affected the sentiments of car buyers and in-turn the sales in the auto industry. Therefore, the Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is expecting to miss the growth target of 7 per cent for the passenger vehicle segment in FY2019.

Within the passenger vehicles segment, the sales of passenger cars, utility vehicle & vans grew by 4.34 percent, 2.63 percent and 12.89 percent respectively in April-December 2018 over the same period last year.

The Mahindra Jeeto light commercial vehicle (LCV) recently achieved the 1 lakh sales milestone in India. In fact, it was just a few months ago that the company announced achieved the 1 lakh production milestone for the Jeeto LCV.
