Chevrolet Essentia Spotted Testing In India Again; Launch Later This Year
Chevrolet well finally launch two new products in India this year - the new-generation Chevrolet Beat and the all-new Chevrolet Essentia subcompact sedan. We saw the concept models of both the cars at the 2016 Auto Expo and the latter was recently spotted testing in India again. Draped in heavy camouflage, the new Chevrolet Essentia will mark the American carmaker's entry into the highly competitive and now crowded sub-4 metre sedan space.

Volvo S40, the much anticipated compact sedan from the Swedish carmaker appears to have made a guest appearance in the company's latest safety videos. And the car used to demonstrate the new safety technology is the video looks very similar to Volvo's 40.2 Concept, which previews the upcoming Volvo S40 sedan.

Let's call a spade a spade and acknowledge the fact that India is just about opening up to the hybrid car market. The response to the Toyota Camry hybrid was an eye opener for sure and the Government of India supported this by introducing the FAME scheme which provided incentives for car manufacturers and customers who opt for hybrid cars. A lot of car makers have already introduced their share of hybrid cars in India and now Hyundai too is jumping on this bandwagon. Hyundai will launch the Ioniq plug-in hybrid in India by 2018. The car maker will showcase the car at the Delhi Auto Expo followed by the launch later that year.

Toyota will finally bring us the much discussed and anticipated Vios compact sedan next year. The Vios is a compact sedan and will be going up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, and the new-generation Hyundai Verna that's coming this year. Toyota Kirloskar Motor will showcase the Vios at the Auto Expo in February next year, with a market launch and price announcement soon after in April.

The compact SUV segment has seen a massive growth in India and there are quite a few players already. With the Nexon, Tata Motors do not want to stray away from this path and want to fall smack in between all the competition in the segment. The subcompact SUV has just a couple of players as of now but there are a whole bunch of crossovers in this segment and this is probably where the Nexon holds the advantage. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza already holds the upper hand in this segment and that too with just one engine - the diesel. The company has managed to sell more than 1 lakh cars ever since its launch and the waiting period is still up to 7 months. Tata expects a similar response to the Nexon and considering the path taken by the company, it isn't a far-fetched idea.
