car&bike Expert Take
“In the premium commuter space, the Honda Hornet 2.0 stands out as a sensible two-wheeler, but it also has a punchy performance to boast about. Thanks to its competent engine, excellent handling, and new technology, the Japanese brand has made a fine point here.”
Honda Hornet 2.0 Overview
Since it entered the indian market in 2020, the Honda Hornet 2.0 has always attempted to do something else. It wanted to make the divide between premium 160 cc commuters and full-fledged 200 cc performance bikes as little as possible, given that around this time, there was barely any competition in this segment. The manufacturer’s attempts have proven successful, too, with some of the Hornet's most appreciative elements standing out: in its category, it was the first to have upside-down (USD) forks, full-LED lighting, and a digital instrument cluster.
Since then, the bike has gone through two more updates. The 2023 update saw it getting an OBD2B-compliant engine so that it was ready for modern emission standards, along with a slipper clutch. The 2025 update carried on from there, further equipping the motorcycle with a 4.2-inch TFT display, an update engine, and, of course, to attract the younger generation, some revised styling cues on the outside.
Our car&bike team has mentioned several things about Honda’s offering, and we have put some of those opinions together into this review; you’ll come across a few as you keep reading. Let’s find out if this motorcycle meets your expectations without any unnecessary fuss.
The engine character of the Honda Hornet 2.0 focuses heavily on accessible low-end grunt and a strong mid-range pull. During our tests, this engine personally felt linear and on the smoother side to engage.
According to our car&bike review,
“Powering the Hornet 2.0 is a 184.40 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that now meets all OBD-2B compliance standards.”
Engine & Transmission
| Specification | Details |
| Engine | 184.40 cc, Air-Cooled, Single-Cylinder |
| Power | 17.03 bhp @ 8,500 rpm |
| Torque | 15.9 Nm @ 6,000 rpm |
| Transmission | Five-Speed Manual |
City Riding Experience
Inside the city, the bike’s engine gives off a crisp throttle response. The clutch action is wonderfully light; all credit goes to the new assist and slipper clutch given here. Meanwhile, the five-speed gearbox shifts cleanly, rarely ever letting you worry about overtaking. You also always have enough punch to make traffic-heavy runs enjoyable without feeling like you are wrestling a heavy machine.
Highway Riding Experience
Meanwhile, the motorcycle cruises quite happily at 80 to 90 kmph on the highways, and the power provided feels adequate for weekend trips. However, pushing it towards triple digits brings minor vibrations, so overtaking at high speeds requires some planning. The engine also cannot work past its top-end limit well; something you need to keep in mind if you love triple-digit speeds.
Pros
- Peppy 184.40 cc engine with excellent mid-range grunt
- Premium golden upside-down front forks handle bad roads well
- New 4.2-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity
- Standard dual-channel ABS and traction control improve safety
Cons
- Lacks top-end performance for fast highway riding
- Pillion seat space feels cramped for larger adults
- Competitors offer more power at a similar price point
- The stiff rear suspension can be bothersome on broken roads
Verdict
The Honda Hornet 2.0 successfully manages to offer a smooth, comfortable, and tech-loaded experience in the same package for the everyday rider. It’s not an outright track machine, and it’s not actively trying to be one either.
As one of our car&bike reviews simplifies,
“Visually, the 2025 Hornet 2.0 sports refreshed graphics, in line with recent updates seen on other Honda motorcycles.”
You might also feel it is slightly underpowered performance-wise compared to the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, but most of its shortcomings are offset by its premium feature list. The latest updates have also made it a much more rounded bike, as features like the TFT screen, dual-channel ABS, and OBD-2B compliance have added great value to it. If you need a good-looking motorcycle that handles daily duties perfectly, the Honda Hornet 2.0 is a brilliant choice.

- Best gift from my mama5.0Repsol Edition(Petrol)The Honda Hornet 2.0 has been a pleasant surprise from the moment I got on it. This bike has just the right mix of performance and style for my daily rides. The 184cc engine is peppy, offering quick acceleration and plenty of pull in city traffic. It’s genuinely fun to weave through congested streets. The styling is sharp and aggressive, with that sporty tank design and LED lighting giving it an upmarket feel. It’s hard not to appreciate the attention to detail. The Hornet 2.0’s suspension does a great job of absorbing bumps, and the riding posture strikes a great balance not too aggressive, but sporty enough to make each ride engaging. And the best part? The bike is light and easy to maneuver, making it an excellent companion for both short sprints and longer rides.By LakhvinderPosted on: Nov 15, 2024 11:22 AM00
- I Genuinely enjoy my Hornet4.0Repsol Edition(Petrol)i m riding the Honda Hornet 2.0 for a while, and while I genuinely enjoy it, there are a few things worth noting. First, it’s a great-looking bike with that aggressive stance and sharp design cues it definitely catches the eye. The 184cc engine is responsive and performs well in city conditions, but out on the highway, it does feel like it could use a bit more top-end grunt. I find it smooth, but for spirited long-distance rides, you might crave a bit more power. Handling is excellent thanks to its light frame, but the rear suspension feels slightly firm over rough patches, which can be a bit jarring. The fully digital console is a welcome addition, but it could be more feature-rich compared to what’s being offered by some competitors. All said, the Hornet 2.0 is a great all-rounder for city and occasional long rides it just isn’t for those seeking outright power.By Harish JasuPosted on: Nov 14, 2024 05:01 PM00
- Fuel efficiency isnt the best for a 200CC4.0STD ABS(Petrol)The Honda Hornet 2.0 offers good performance with a smooth engine and agile handling. It’s perfect for city traffic and short highway rides. The bike looks great with its aggressive design, but the fuel efficiency isn’t the best for a 200cc bike. The seating is comfortable, but long rides can get tiring. Overall, it’s a solid option for those looking for performance and style, though it has room for improvement.By Karan BariPosted on: Sep 28, 2024 03:25 PM00
- Best bike in this segment4.0STD(Petrol)Everything is fine in this bike but...honda should launch a 160 varient too for this model, as many hornet lovers like me demands160 cc varient rather than 180... In india's present condition the petrol price has been tremendously increased, so 160 cc will be more fuel efficient and also more than enough for power supplimentBy Trishik ChakrabortyPosted on: Jun 01, 2022 12:35 AM43
