car&bike Expert Take
“The KTM RC 390 delivers sharp handling, strong acceleration, and impressive electronic rider aids, making it an exciting choice for riders who enjoy spirited riding on highways or track days. It suits enthusiasts looking for a focused performance machine. However, its sporty riding posture and firm setup may feel demanding for riders who mainly want a relaxed everyday commuter.”
The KTM RC 390 is built as a compact supersport motorcycle for riders who want strong performance in a lightweight, track-focused package. Powered by a 373.27 cc single-cylinder engine producing 42.9 bhp, the RC 390 combines aggressive styling with modern electronics and sharper ergonomics than before. The idea of the brand is to offer a motorcycle that can handle track days while still being manageable for everyday riding.

This RC 390 expert review has been supplemented with opinions from Preetam Bora in our last detailed YouTube video and Sameer Contractor in his comprehensive written review of the motorcycle. The RC 390 felt sharp and engaging to ride, especially once the engine crossed the mid-range and began pulling strongly. Priced between Rs. 3,22,719 and Rs. 3,23,068 (ex-showroom), it rivals bikes like the TVS Apache RR 310 and Yamaha R3, offering strong performance and track-ready capability for riders who want a serious sport bike.
Pros
- Strong 373 cc engine that delivers impressive performance
- Balanced chassis that feels stable and confident in corners
- Cornering ABS and traction control improve safety while riding
- Large 13.7-litre fuel tank offers better riding range
- Quickshifter and TFT display add to the feature list
Cons
- Fit-and-finish could be better in some areas
- Rear suspension can feel firm over larger bumps
- The quickshifter can feel clunky during some shifts
- Metzeler tyres can feel slightly skittish at extreme lean angles
Verdict
The KTM RC 390 has always been built for riders who enjoy performance, and over the years, it has become more practical for everyday use. In our evaluation, we found that the latest version balances track-ready performance with better everyday usability.
The 373 cc engine produces 42.9 bhp and 37 Nm of torque, giving the bike strong acceleration once you get past 4000 rpm. The larger airbox also improves low- and mid-range torque, which makes city riding easier than before. Handling remains a highlight as the trellis-frame chassis feels balanced and stable even when making mid-corner corrections.
As Preetam Bora summed it up,
“In one word, the new RC 390 is more accessible and friendlier than before.”
