Expert Review on MG Cyberster
car&bike Expert Take
“Putting sensibility and practicality aside, the MG Cyberster bets it all on style and outright speed. It’s an all-electric, two-door roadster that promises some serious dramatic flair and racetrack capabilities on the tarmac.”

MG Motor India surprised many when they decided to bring this low-slung convertible to our shores. It broke cover as a halo product under the new MG Select premium retail network, nudging the brand to launch something else other than everyday family SUVs. The Cyberster is a current-day nod to MG’s classic sports car roots, but what’s more interesting is that it does not depend on combustion power to evoke tradition. Rather, it’s a heavy-hitting electric setup.

This one doesn’t fight for boot space or rear legroom; it goes toe-to-toe against established sports cars. The four-wheeler has a canvas soft-top, electrically operated scissor doors, and a respectable footprint. Most modern electric cars feel clinical, as if they’re meant to be as efficient as possible without bothering you. The Cyberster does the opposite. It tries to engage your senses with its performance.
Shams Raza Naqvi had done a thorough review of this car’s real-world performance and its strongest selling points against some of its toughest competitors. We have infused some of his insights into this review; you’ll come across them as you keep reading forward.
Underneath the striking bodywork, the Cyberster packs a serious punch. It houses a large 77 kWh battery pack, which is impressively thin at just 11 cm, and also helps keep the centre of gravity low. The dual-motor setup sends a massive 503 bhp and 725 Nm of torque to all four wheels.
When you pin the throttle, the response is instant. You can access launch control via the steering wheel, and it propels the roadster from a standstill to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds. While speed builds without any hesitation in this car, the braking hardware given is equally capable, bringing it down from 100 to a halt in just 33 metres.
Engine Specifications
| Engine / Motor Setup | Power | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |
| Dual Electric Motors (77 kWh Battery) | 503 bhp | 725 Nm | Single-speed automatic | All-wheel drive |
Driving Experience: Real World
Driving an electric roadster presents a unique set of characteristics. The massive torque output means you always have overtaking power on tap, regardless of the current speed you are in.
According to Shams,
“You can push the Cyberster as much as possible, and it plays along.”
City Driving
At lower speeds, the Cyberster’s powertrain behaves modestly. It does not feel twitchy or difficult to manage in stop-and-go traffic, and the throttle is easy to modulate. There is no lag in the lower range with this vehicle at all for two obvious reasons: it’s an EV, and more importantly, it’s a performance-packed EV.
Highway Driving
On open roads, the powertrain handles the tarmac without any complications. The aerodynamic shape slices through the air at extreme speeds, and wind noise is well-controlled with the roof up. If you drop the roof, the cabin gets breezy but does not feel bothersome even during triple-digit speeds. And while performance cars, depending on fuel fossils, sometimes struggle near the redline, there are no such hiccups with this electric vehicle.

Shams observes,
“The paddle shifters here assume a different role, too; they control the levels of regenerative braking.”
The Cyberster does not look like anything else in the MG showroom. It embraces a classic sports car silhouette, featuring a large sculpted bonnet and a short rear deck, and the designers have managed to integrate modern electric elements without losing that traditional roadster charm. It sits wide and low, casting a shadow that turns heads at every junction.
The canvas roof takes under 10 seconds to retract, operating at speeds up to 50 kmph. The biggest party piece, however, is the set of electric scissor doors. They swing upwards dramatically, adding theatre to every exit.
Dimensions Comparison
| Dimension | MG Cyberster | BMW Z4 | BYD Seal |
| Length | 4,535 mm | 4,324 mm | 4,800 mm |
| Width | 1,913 mm | 1,864 mm | 1,875 mm |
| Height | 1,329 mm | 1,304 mm | 1,460 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,690 mm | 2,470 mm | 2,920 mm |

The Cyberster is wider than either the BMW Z4 or the BYD Seal, sitting at 1,913 mm. Its wheelbase is also longer than the other two.
The car’s exterior is bold, mixing sweeping lines with sharp, functional aerodynamics. It looks fast even when parked.
Front Profile
- The face has a low-slung nose and sweeping LED headlamps.
- Massive air intakes are present here, feeding cooling to the battery and brakes.
- The bonnet has some strong character lines that guide your eyes to the cabin’s appearance.
Side Profile
- Its stance is dominated by striking 20-inch alloy wheels.
- Strong shoulder lines give the car a beefy appearance, giving vibes about its solidity.
- The electric scissor doors are a segment-first, and they look quite stunning when open.
Rear Profile
- A full-width LED light bar connects the unique arrow-shaped tail lamps situated at the back.
- The lower section features a heavy rear diffuser that smartly manages the car’s airflow.
- The boot lid is short and merges cleanly with the design; it doesn’t look odd.

Going into the cabin reveals a space that is entirely focused on the person behind the wheel. The materials used by MG in this car feel premium, and the layout mostly wraps around the driver.
Cabin Layout and Quality
You get a flat-bottom steering wheel and an aggressive multi-screen setup dominating the dashboard. The primary cluster has a 10.25-inch screen, further flanked by two seven-inch displays for media and vehicle controls. This tri-screen setup is still rare in mainstream cars. Meanwhile, the finish of other materials used is excellent, with vegan leather and soft-touch plastics applied generously.
Seating Comfort
Front Row
The sports seats have fantastic lateral support to offer, keeping you firmly in place during hard cornering. You also get power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated seats, but one downside is the seating position. Because the battery pack sits underneath, you do not sit as low as you would in a traditional petrol roadster. This minor inconvenience may bother taller drivers as well when the roof stays closed.
Features That Improve Daily Use
- Three-screen digital instrument and infotainment layout
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Bose eight-speaker sound system
- Dual-zone climate control with PM2.5 air filter
- Powered scissor doors

Priced at Rs. 74.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Cyberster is no doubt more exciting to look at when we consider its value against traditional sports cars like the BMW Z4. For buyers wanting standout looks and massive performance, you don’t have to breach the one crore mark with this car.
As Shams aptly puts it,
“For a car that is this clean, thrilling, and exclusive, that feels like great value.”
Ex-Showroom Prices (India)
Variant | Engine & Transmission | Ex-Showroom Price |
Cyberster Dual Motor AWD | 77 kWh, Single-speed automatic | Rs. 74.99 Lakh |
Any other petrol-powered roadster naturally consumes a lot of fuel. But as an EV, the Cyberster holds its own, with a certified range of 580 km from the 77 kWh battery pack on a single charge.

In real-world conditions, aggressive driving no doubt drops that figure noticeably. If you enjoy the 503 bhp regularly, the range will mostly be around the 380 km to 400 km mark. However, driven sensibly on the highway, it will achieve 450 km before needing a plug. The car also supports fast DC charging, meaning top-ups from 10 to 80 per cent take under 40 minutes.
Observed Fuel Efficiency During Testing
| Powertrain | Claimed Range | City Range (Real-World) | Highway Range (Real-World) |
| Dual Motor AWD (77 kWh) | 580 km | 420–440 km | 450–470 km |
When you have a car capable of hitting 100 kmph in three seconds, safety hardware must be top-tier. And the MG Cyberster fulfils that demand.
Passive Safety and Crash Protection
The battery pack is highly protected and contributes to a low roll-over risk. You get four airbags (dual front and two side) as standard. The structural rigidity is impressive, even without a fixed roof, meaning the chassis does not flex uncomfortably over bad roads.
Active Safety and Stability Systems
Electronic Stability Control works overtime to keep the 725 Nm of torque from overwhelming the tyres. An electronic differential lock is also there, sending power to the wheels with the most grip. Another key highlight is the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS, which brings with it features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver monitoring system, and collision mitigation features for safer highway touring.
Safety Verdict
The Cyberster depends on wide tyres, excellent brakes, and sharp electronics to keep you safe. But do note that it does not have either a Bharat NCAP or a Global NCAP rating, as it has not been tested yet.
MG has packed its electric convertible with enough gadgets to justify the premium price tag attached to the vehicle. Technology implemented here feels highly driver-centric, focusing heavily on screens and driver assistance.
Infotainment and Interface
- The cabin gets a multi-screen layout, with each screen answering to different needs.
- Two seven-inch displays flank the main digital cluster.
- There is also a lower touchscreen for climate control and other vehicle settings.
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, too.
Cabin Convenience and Practical Features
- Scissor doors operate electrically via the key fob or buttons.
- The fabric roof drops down or goes up in under 10 seconds.
- A Bose audio system is present, delivering excellent sound quality.

Packaging an electric roadster involves tricky compromises, especially with folding roofs and thick battery packs taking up room. The Cyberster manages to offer 250 litres of boot space at the rear. You can fit two soft weekend bags or a couple of small cabin suitcases without much trouble. Given its shape and purpose, the cargo area is reasonably deep, though the loading lip sits fairly high. Surprisingly, there is no frunk under the long, sculpted bonnet. MG thought of using the front section for mechanicals and the dual-motor setup instead, so you will have to make peace with just the rear trunk for your weekend getaways.
When you strap a heavy battery to a two-door sports car, weight becomes a natural enemy. However, MG cleverly uses an 11-cm thick battery pack placed low on the floor to keep its performance high. It hides its mass well, letting you push hard without the chassis getting unsettled.
City Driving
In traffic, the Cyberster lets you graze the throttle to close gaps smoothly. Despite its aggressive looks, the ride over broken pavement feels mature, and it manages to clear most bumps without sending painful jolts through the sporty seats. Ground clearance is decent for a performance vehicle as well.
Highway Driving
The car covers long distances with pace. The steering feels weighty and offers enough feedback to keep you engaged during quick lane changes, while wind noise remains low when the roof is up. Drop the top, and the cabin remains relatively serene, letting you comfortably cover kilometres without any worries.
Shams notes,
“It holds the line nicely, making it a fun-to-drive vehicle that feels equally at ease on the road as it does on the racetrack.”

MG has chosen to keep things simple for the Indian market in 2026. You get only a single, fully loaded GT variant with the all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup. Prices hover around the Rs. 75 lakh mark, with all the performance and luxury features bundled into one cohesive package.
| Variant | Engine & Gearbox | Key Additions | Best Suited For |
| Cyberster GT | Dual-Motor, 77 kWh Battery, AWD | Scissor doors, Bose audio, four-screen setup, Level 2 ADAS | Buyers wanting a full-fledged, high-performance electric roadster |
The Essentials That You Don’t Get
- A front storage trunk (frunk)
- A spare wheel for emergencies
- Manual override for the scissor doors
- A practical glovebox around the dashboard
Should You Buy the MG Cyberster? Our Thoughts
With only one variant on offer, getting this 510 bhp convertible is a fairly easy process. It caters to different lifestyles despite just one fully loaded variant on offer.
- If you want a car for Sunday morning drives, this car fits that bill perfectly. The 580 km claimed range means you can hit the hills and come back without constantly thinking about how much juice is left in the tank.
- Turn on the Super Sport mode, unleash the launch control, and this EV turns into a serious track weapon. The low drag coefficient and dual-motor setup particularly make it a grip monster on closed circuits.
- For those who simply want to arrive in style, the electric doors and sharp LED taillamps do the heavy lifting. You get all the attention of an exotic supercar without the loud exhaust or massive fuel bills that usually come with one.

The electric convertible segment in India is practically non-existent, leaving the Cyberster in a unique spot in 2026. Honestly, it does not have a lot of same-natured rivals. But to keep things clear from our side, we have still compared it with some performance-oriented cars, such as the BMW Z4 and the BYD Seal.
The BMW Z4 is all about that pure internal combustion thrill, while the BYD Seal throws in blistering EV performance with its four doors. Buyers cross-shopping at this price point will definitely look for strong acceleration and head-turning looks, and which car will be able to fulfil them the most.
| Model | Powertrain | Power / Torque | Key Value Proposition | Ex-Showroom Price Range |
| MG Cyberster | 77 kWh Battery, Dual-Motor EV | 503–510 bhp / 725 Nm | Electric convertible, scissor doors, rapid acceleration | Rs. 74.99 Lakh |
| BMW Z4 M40i | 3.0-Litre Turbo Petrol | 335–340 bhp / 500 Nm | Classic inline-six engine, pure driving feel, brand cachet | Rs. 90.50 Lakh |
| BYD Seal (Performance) | 82.5 kWh Battery, Dual-Motor EV | 201–523 bhp / 310–670 Nm | Brutal acceleration, practical four-door body, value for money | Rs. 41.00–53.15 Lakh |
Which Premium Roadster Should You Choose?
- Choose the MG Cyberster if you want an emissions-free convertible with supercar-like styling and blazing torque.
- Choose the BMW Z4 if you like the raw sound of a petrol engine and the classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive balance.
- Choose the BYD Seal if you want the same 500+ bhp electric performance, but cannot compromise rear seats.
Pros
- Blistering performance from the dual-motor setup
- Striking design with electric scissor doors
- Strong real-world range for a sports car
- High-quality interior with premium touchpoints
Cons
- Tall drivers might find headroom tight
- The steering wheel blocks the outer digital screens
- No front trunk for extra storage capacity
- High price tag compared to traditional sedans
Verdict
MG was primarily known for family SUVs in India, but that changed with the MG Cyberster. It’s the brand’s first India-spec model to chase speed thrills instead, despite packing an electronic nature in its heart. Everything about the car’s looks, from its low-slung design to those dramatic doors, gives off the impression that it’s meant to grab attention on the streets.
But, like every other EV, it does come with a few niggles as well. The floor is slightly higher to make room for the batteries, which means you don’t get a driving position that is as aggressive as a classic British sports car. But, if such ergonomic gripes do not spoil your impressions about the MG Cyberster, you will definitely love how its 725 Nm of torque comes alive the moment you push its throttle down to the carpet.
Shams summarises,
“The Cyberster isn’t just a one-off; MG has a long history of making roadsters, and this is a modern, tech-heavy evolution of that legacy.”
