Tata Motors Rolls-Out Its 1500th Safari Storme GS800 For The Indian Army
Tata Motors today announced the roll-out of its 1500th GS800 (General Service 800) Safari Storme SUVs specially made for the Indian Armed Forces. The milestone GS800 Safari Storme was rolled out of the company's manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra, and is part of the 3192 vehicles that the company is supplying to the Indian Army.

About a year ago we brought you the news about Tata Motors being selected to supply 3,192 units of the Safari Storme to the Indian army. As a replacement to the ageing Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, the Tata Safari Storme would be ideal since it met a list of criteria that were set by the Indian Army - hard top, 800 kg payload capacity and air conditioning. And now here are some of the first pictures of the Safari that has finally been readied for the Indian Army in a cool matte green paintjob. The Tata Motors SUV supply to the army will also be complimented by SUVs from Nissan and Mahindra.

Tata Motors has bagged a contract of supplying 3,192 units of its Safari Storme 4x4 model to the Indian Army, under a new category of vehicles named G S800 (General Service 800). From what we know, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) was on the lookout for a manufacturer to supply them with off-road capable vehicles.

The SUV now comes with a 2.2-litre VARICOR 400 engine with increased power and torque along with an all new gearbox.
