Founded in 1958 by N.K Firodia, Force Motors is an Indian based manufacturer known for producing small commercial vehicles, multi-utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles, sports utility vehicles and agricultural tractors. Before it was named Force Motors in May 2005, the company was known as Bajaj Tempo after Indian based automobile manufacturer, Bajaj Auto bought a significant stake in the company. Germany based Daimler-Benz too had a 16% stake in the company due to ownership of the original Tempo works which was gradually sold back to Firodia group in 2001. The production of Tempo 3-wheeler Hanseat began in 1958 at Goregaon, Mumbai followed by Tempo Viking commercial four wheeler in 1964 and diesel Matador light commercial vehicle in 1969. 1982 is also marked as a significant year in the history of Force Motors, when the company started producing Mercedes Benz OM 616 under license in collaboration with then Daimler-Benz. The company launched tempo Trax road vehicle in 1988 and in 2011, it tapped into passenger vehicle segment with One SUV. Two years later in 2013, Force Motors introduced its off-roader Gurkha. Force Motors’ Chennai manufacturing unit was inaugurated in 2015 where it produces engines for BMW cars and SUVs made in India.
