Vespa is an Italian brand of scooters built by Piaggio since 1946. Piaggio first licensed the production of Vespa scooters in India to Bajaj Auto in the 1960s, till 1971 when its license expired. A joint venture with LML motors enabled Vespa to make a comeback in 1983, with its P-Series scooters for the Indian market. However, this partnership ended in 1999. In 2012, after a long hiatus, Vespa showcased the current-gen VXL scooter at the Delhi Auto Expo. Later, Vespa introduced the SXL which was cosmetically different from the VXL.

Piaggio India currently retails 2 scooters in India, the VXL and SXL, sold in a range of variants. Both scooters can be had with either a 150 cc or 125 cc engine.
