Hero Electric is the pioneer and market leader of India’s electric two-wheeler industry. With over 500 dealers, 250 sub-dealers spread across 25 states in India, and more than 3,50,000 customers, Hero Electric is India’s largest manufacturer of electric two-wheelers with a current annual production capacity of 75,000 units. The company intends to increase its production capacity by installing a new plant in the same manufacturing facility in Punjab to 3,00,000 units by FY 2022, with overall capacity to be increased to 10 lakh units in the next 3-4 years.
Currently Hero Electric offers a total of 13 electric two-wheeler spread across 6 platforms, and segmented into low-speed (Comfort Speed or below 25 kmph) and city-speed (City Speed or around 40-45 kmph) categories. As of April 2021, Hero Electric’s most affordable electric scooter is the Hero Flash LX, priced at Rs. 46,640, while the most expensive electric two-wheeler is the Hero Photon HX, priced at Rs. 79,940.
With over 3.5 lakh electric two-wheelers on Indian roads, Hero Electric has played a very important role in developing the EV market in the country. The company offers charging infrastructure across the country, in markets, grocery stores and chemist shops, offering charging at around Rs. 10 per hour. Some of the popular Hero Electric bikes in India include Hero Electric Optima, Hero Electric Flash, Hero Electric Photon, Hero Electric NYX, Hero Electric Dash. Currently, Hero Electric commands 40 per cent of the electric two-wheeler market. Going forward, the company anticipates that the current preference for low-speed electric vehicles, which constitute 80 per cent of the company’s sales right now, will be converted to a customer preference for city-speed products in the next 2-3 years.
