Yamaha Motor India has pulled the plug on the YZF-R15 V2.0 in the country, six months after the YZF-R15 V3.0 went on sale earlier this year. The Yamaha R15 has been one of the most successful motorcycles for the company and the third generation version takes it to a whole new level in terms of performance, design, and technology. With the updated bike offered on sale in India, Yamaha has decided to discontinue the R15 V2.0.
A recent image emerged online shows the R15 V3.0 at a dealership, hinting towards the model making its debut soon. The India-spec Yamaha R15 V3.0 could go on sale as early as January next year, and is a comprehensive upgrade over the current model.
Dubbed Yamaha's variable valve actuation (VVA), it is a basic version of variable valve technology which uses a mechanism to shift between cam profiles for low-rpm engine speeds as well as high-rpm speeds. The VVA allows Yamaha to use a single overhead cam which makes the cylinder head more compact, and is also said to return sharper throttle response. The engine is now a 155 cc single-cylinder SOHC mill capable of producing 19.3 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of peak torque at 8500 rpm.
