All-New Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 Officially Unveiled; Gets More Power

- The new R15 gets completely new styling as well as hardware
- Power has been upgraded to 19.04 bhp from the larger 155 cc engine
- The new R15 V3.0 will go on sale in Indonesia from February
Shedding all camouflage, the all-new Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 has been officially unveiled in Indonesia. The much-awaited motorcycle sports a plethora of upgrades with the all-new version churning out more power, better equipment and improved mechanicals. The bike was introduced on stage by Yamaha MotoGP riders Valentino Rossi and the newly joined Maverick Vinales, further adding to its charm. The 2017 Yamaha R15 V3.0 continues to use the DeltaBox (twin-spar) frame, albeit with mild tweaks. The design, however, has taken a completely new approach in-line with that on the new R125 as well as the new generation R6, both of which aren't sold in India. The R15 V3.0 gets razor sharp styling, evolved from the current model. The twin headlamp design is retained but now feature LEDs, and are separated by an air intake in the centre.

The fairing has been revised and hugs the bodywork in a better fashion, while the reworked fuel tank that has been optimised to incorporate the rider's thighs and support the chest as well. The tail section retains the sharp styling as well with the LED tail lights and a rather elongated exhaust can. The twin-seat setup continues with contoured seats for added comfort, while the saddle height has gone up by 15 mm at 815 mm. In addition, the new generation R15 V3.0 gets a completely digital instrument cluster replacing the analog-digital unit currently seen.

With respect to power, the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 uses a new 155 cc single cylinder SOHC engine. The motor has been bored out from the older 149 cc motor and has been uprated to churn out 19.04 bhp of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8500 rpm. The power has seen an increase of 2.28 bhp, while torque is marginally lower by .03 Nm. The 6-speed gearbox continues to serve purpose but now get assistance via a slipper clutch for faster shifts. The kerb weight is 137 kg, 1 kg more than the outgoing R15.

The track-focused nature of the new Yamaha R15 V3.0 has also been retained and the bike now gets better mechanical support. The telescopic front forks have been replaced by the much sophisticated USDs, while the rear continues to get a monoshock suspension. Braking performance comes from dual disc brakes, but ABS has been given a complete miss. The bike also rides on fatter 100-section front and 140-section rear tyres.

Prices for the new R15 will be announced by mid-February in Indonesia, which should give a fair idea of what the price hike will be like. As far as India launch is concerned, Yamaha has not revealed a timeline yet. In fact, the automaker's Indian subsidiary is in the process of introducing an all-new premium performance motorcycle in the country tomorrow that could be a game-changing offering.
