Kawasaki is one of the very few manufacturers who have officially launched off-road ready dirt bikes in India. One of the dirt bikes on offer is the KX250. It is not road-legal, therefore, riding the dirt bike should be restricted to off-road trails and tracks only. The KX250 was launched in 2017 but the updated 2018 edition introduces a host of improvements including an updated engine with more torque and revised suspension setup. It is a good dirt bike for novice and pros alike.

Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) gives you peace of mind on wet or loose tarmac and can also be switched off.
An assist and slipper clutch keeps the lever action light in stop-and-go commuting, while preventing rear wheel hop under aggressive downshifts.
The low 790 mm seat height and narrow frame make it easy for all riders to reach the ground.
Twin 300 mm petal discs up front and a 220 mm rear disc have dual-channel ABS for reassuring stops.

Cons

With just 130 mm of ground clearance, you need to be attentive over tall speed bumps and broken roads.
You cannot adjust the damping on the conventional telescopic front forks.
Pillion comfort is non-existent since the rear seat is tiny and narrow.
Wind buffeting is noticeable once you cross 120 kmph.

Verdict

The Kawasaki Z650 is still one of the most user-friendly middleweight naked motorcycles in India. What makes it so flexible is the parallel-twin performance, balanced chassis manners, safety electronics and its accessible 790 mm seat height. All these traits make it easy to live with, be it daily office runs or corner carving on weekends.

What goes against it is the low ground clearance, and the wind blast under sustained highway speeds. Nevertheless, its blend of everyday usability and genuine big-bike performance is hard to match. If you are upgrading from the 300-400 cc bike, this Kawasaki is certainly worth your attention.
