Cruisers aren’t about chasing speed or attacking corners. They’re about slowing things down, stretching your legs forward and letting the road unfold at its own pace. That’s exactly the philosophy behind the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. From the moment we settle into the low seat and reach for the wide handlebars, the motorcycle encourages a relaxed rhythm rather than aggressive riding. The long wheelbase adds stability, the riding posture feels natural, and the familiar 648 cc parallel-twin engine delivers smooth, easy power that suits highway cruising perfectly.
As Preetam Bora puts it, “A true cruiser isn’t about outright performance — it’s about relaxed riding and the lure of the open road.”
And that thought captures the essence of this motorcycle. The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 positions itself as an accessible middleweight cruiser — welcoming new riders while still giving experienced ones a satisfying, laid-back ride.

Expert Context
To understand what the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is really like beyond spec sheets and brochure claims, we spent several days riding it across the wide open landscapes of Rajasthan. The evaluation was led by Preetam Bora with additional riding impressions from Kingshuk Datta. Between them, they’ve tested hundreds of motorcycles spanning entry commuters up to litre-class superbikes.
For this review, we took the bike through a proper, real-world route that suits a cruiser perfectly. The journey began in Jaisalmer, stretching through the sweeping desert highways toward Sam Sand Dunes, Tanot, Longewala, Ramgarh, Pokhran, Phalodi, Osian, Jodhpur and Barmer, before looping back to Jaisalmer. Long highway sections, open desert roads and changing terrain helped us understand the bike’s touring character.
As Kingshuk Datta says, “The Super Meteor 650 reminds you what relaxed, unhurried motorcycling is all about.”
When Royal Enfield decided to build a proper middleweight cruiser, it didn’t just stretch an existing motorcycle and give it new styling. Instead, the brand created the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 as its flagship cruiser — a motorcycle designed from the ground up for relaxed highway touring. It sits at the top of the company’s lineup and represents Royal Enfield’s vision of what a modern cruiser should feel like: comfortable, refined, and ready for long distances.

At the heart of the motorcycle is the familiar 648 cc parallel-twin engine, the same smooth and proven motor that powers the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. The focus here is not on sporty riding. Everything about the bike is designed to create a proper cruiser-style riding position.
The Super Meteor 650 brings a more premium and touring-focused approach to Royal Enfield’s 650 cc platform.

Variants
Royal Enfield offers the Super Meteor 650 in three variants — Astral, Interstellar and Celestial — each catering to a slightly different kind of cruiser buyer.
While the engine, chassis and overall riding experience remain identical across all three versions, the differences come down to styling, finish levels and touring equipment. This means your choice is less about performance and more about how you want your cruiser to feel and look.
Astral (Base Variant)
The Astral variant represents the most accessible entry into the Super Meteor lineup. It keeps things simple and focuses on the core cruiser experience.
- Single-tone paint schemes
- Clean, minimal cruiser styling
- Tripper navigation pod
This variant is ideal if you want the Super Meteor experience without paying extra for touring add-ons.
Interstellar (Mid Variant)
Step up to the Interstellar, and the focus shifts toward a more premium visual appeal.
- Dual-tone paint finishes
- More muscular tank graphics
- Slightly richer visual detailing
The riding experience remains unchanged, but the motorcycle feels more distinctive on the road.
Celestial (Top Variant)
The Celestial variant is the fully equipped touring-focused version of the Super Meteor 650.
- Tall windscreen
- Touring seat setup
- Pillion backrest
- Premium paint and finish
This version is best suited for riders planning long-distance touring, where added comfort and wind protection make a noticeable difference.
Which one should you choose?
If you want a clean, classic cruiser, the Astral does the job well. The Interstellar adds more visual presence. But if touring comfort is your priority, the Celestial is the most complete version.

Verdict
Spend a few days riding the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, and its personality becomes very clear. This motorcycle isn’t trying to be everything for everyone. It doesn’t chase sharp performance numbers or lightweight agility. Instead, it prioritises on what a good cruiser ought to offer, which is the ability to ride in comfort, a powerful road presence, and easy highway comfort. Long rides are truly engaging with the smooth twin-cylinder engine, firm chassis, and comfortable ergonomics. In this Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Expert Review, the bike proves itself to be one of the most complete cruisers in its class.
As Preetam Bora says, “If you love cruisers and don’t want to spend a fortune, the Super Meteor 650 is definitely worth considering.”
If your riding dreams involve long highways and laid-back cruising, the Super Meteor delivers exactly that experience. This is easily one of the most complete and well-rounded cruisers Royal Enfield has built so far.
