Latest Update on XUV300

Mahindra XUV300 Price

Prices of the Mahindra XUV300 turbo-petrol start at Rs. 8.30 lakh and go all the way up to Rs. 11.84 lakh, while the diesel variants have been priced at Rs. 8.69 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 12.69 lakh for the range topping diesel trim. The Mahindra XUV300 is sold in India in four variants- W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O).

Mahindra XUV300 Exterior Design

In terms of dimensions, the XUV300 is 3990 mm long, 1820 mm wide and 1620 mm tall. Its wheelbase is measured at 2620 mm which gives it the largest footprint in the segment. The XUV300 has a ground clearance of 180 millimetres which is more than enough for the car to sail over all bumps and potholes that you could find in the city but is still less than that of its rivals such as the Vitara Brezza, Nexon and the EcoSport, all of which have a ground clearance of 198 millimetres and more. The XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli platform but has been shortened in order to fit in the sub 4-metre bracket. It is still the widest and has the longest wheelbase in the subcompact SUV segment. The design of the Mahindra XUV300 has been inspired by the Cheetah which refers to the front end along with the character lines on the sides of the car in this case. The design of the new XUV300 is edgy and stylish! We like the way the front end looks. The slim grille is accentuated by the LED projector headlamps and daytime running lamps give it a sophisticated look. The fog lamps get black housing and are sort of connected to a headlamp by a thin DRL strip.

Mahindra XUV300 Features

Mahindra has done well to pack the XUV300 with features such as dual-zone climate control with memory function, modes for steering feel, tyre pressure monitoring systems, front parking sensors and so on, the W8 and more specifically, the W8 (O) which are first-in-class features. Also, the W8 (O) variant gets 7 airbags which is again a class leading feature. Other features include an electric sunroof, cruise control, LED daytime running lamps and a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which gets smartphone connectivity in the form of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is app connectivity as well where you can connect the Mahindra Blue Sense app and check your driving score.

Mahindra XUV300 Engine And Transmission

The Mahindra XUV300 gets a BS6 1.2-litre petrol and a BS6 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine makes 110 bhp and 200 newton metres of peak torque while the diesel engine pumps out 115 bhp and churns out a class-leading torque of 300 newton metres. A 6-speed gearbox is standard while and AMT is optional on both variants.

Overpriced Car which maes no sense for a sub 4 mm

Horribly greedy pricing by mahindra. Given the sub 4 meter tax benefits, they should have had the wiggle room to price this much lower. That they have priced the 1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol only 50k-60k lower than the 1.5 litre 4 cylinder diesel already shows how greedy they have gotten. I would recommend waiting 6 months - there would be 1 lakh rs or even more kind of discounts on this by then. That way you also don't end up becoming one of the early birds who have to bear the brunt of niggles known to affect all new launches by mahindra. Mahdndra has killed the product with the pricing.

I Sri Kangkan Saikia, bought a XUV 300 W8(O) from Mahindra Industrial and Farm Equipment, Guwahati, on March. I gave the car for 1st servicing on 26th of April’ 2019, but then onwards the whole body of the car makes sounds as on the time of servicing only there was whole vibration of the body. In fact after buying only there was problem with the car. The whole body makes horrible sounds while on running. Again after complaining, they called me for another servicing, then they opened the car to some extend, after informing to the Plant, they said. The whole thing went wrong, the problem rises horribly, the sound increases and increases. I am fedup with the car its problem. A new car is giving so much problem, it’s not worth and it is very frustrating. Every time I take the car to the dealer ! a new problem arises and a temporary solution is advise to me. It is almost 3 (three) months, I take the car every week, again a temporary touch up is done on the car. Recently this Monday something greasing is done, but did not work. It is all disgusting that I am dealing with. I want a permanent solution.

Mahindra XUV300 Expert Review

Mahindra has been trying to bring in a strong contender to the subcompact SUV space for many years now. First, we had the Quanto, which later became the NuvoSport, then the company launched the TUV300, which was quite capable but more utilitarian rather than urban. However, in 2019, the company again entered the sub-4 metre SUV space with the Mahindra XUV300, which was based on the SsangYong Tivoli, and that changed things for the company.

Design

Edgy and stylish! Sure, the XUV300 has been built on the same platform as Tivoli but Mahindra has done well to give it a fresh, new design. We like the way the front end looks. The slim grille is accentuated by the LED projector headlamps and daytime running lamps give it a sophisticated look. The fog lamps get black housing and are sort of connected to a headlamp by a thin DRL strip. View it in profile and you see the typical crossover stance. The character lines above the wheel arches add muscle to the XUV300 along with the plastic cladding on the lower edges of the car. We would have loved to see 18-inch tyres, even as an option. The XUV300 wears 17-inch tyres now and it kind of feels small for the wheel arch. The rear is characterised by smart-looking tail lamps and an integrated spoiler on the white, contrast roof, which looks good in our opinion. The chunky, thick C-pillar adds to the solidity of the XUV300.

Cabin

The cabin of the Mahindra XUV300 is a nice place to be in. The upholstery is done in white leatherette material and the dashboard gets black. The fit and finish inside are good, with minimum buttons and a clean, uncluttered look. The centrepiece is the new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which offers smartphone connectivity in form of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Mahindra also offers features such as navigation, tyre pressure monitoring system and segment-first dual-zone climate control with memory function. The other interesting feature is the multi-colour instrument cluster which can be programmed to have different colours for night and day. And of course, in case you want to feel the sky and the sun on your face, Mahindra is offering a sunroof as well.

Driving Experience

The Mahindra XUV300 gets a 1.2-litre petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is essentially a de-tuned version of the engine on the Marazzo. However, it pumps out 115 bhp at 3,750 rpm while peak torque output is 300 Nm at 1,500 - 2,500 rpm, which is best-in-class. The petrol version at the same time makes 110 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. Both come with a 6-speed manual gearbox, however, the diesel trim also comes with an optional AMT unit. To start with the diesel version, the moment your foot steps on the throttle, you get a beautiful swell of torque which is so handy, when you are driving on traffic-laden roads. The 6-speed gearbox too works very well, offering smooth and precise shifts. There is enough power on tap for quick overtaking manoeuvres within the city and the highway as well thanks to the electronic variable geometry turbocharger. In the AMT version, the Creep mode on the car helps give that initial push so you don't have to provide too much of throttle input. The gears shift seamlessly and there's no clunking of the gears and that's a big take away.

The petrol version, at lower rpms and lower gears, feels a bit sluggish, however, the minute the turbocharger kicks in it's a whole different ballgame. Things get nice and exciting. So, cruising speeds and just gliding through at reasonably higher speeds is an absolute pleasure and I think that's of course coupled with the fact that, as I have said before, this particular platform.

Safety

The Mahindra XUV300, is right now the safest car in India, as per the Global NCAP, which has given the SUV a safety rating of 5 stars for adult protection and 4 stars for child occupant protection. And that tells a lot. The top-spec model comes with 7 airbags, whereas dual airbags along with anti-lock brakes are standard on all variants along with ISOFIX child seat anchorage. The top-spec model also gets parking sensors up front (a segment-first, again!) and at the rear along with a reverse camera with parking assist and hill start assist as well.

Price

The Mahindra XUV300 essentially comes in 4 variants W4, W6, W8 and W8(O), offered in both petrol and diesel options, which are priced between Rs. 7.95 lakh to Rs. 12.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It manages to undercut the base trim of Maruti Vitara Brezza by Rs. 4,000, the Toyota Urban Cruiser by Rs. 45,000 and the Ford EcoSport by Rs. 22,000. However, it’s still considerably expensive than the base trims of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Tata Nexon, almost by up to Rs. 1.2 lakh.

Pros & Cons of XUV300

Final Verdict on XUV300

Verdict

At the aforementioned price, the Mahindra XUV300 not the most affordable SUV in this segment. In fact, it starts at the higher end of the spectrum and is more expensive than some of the best-selling models in this segment. But for the price, the XUV300 offers great built quality, several standard safety features, and a spacious cabin, along with most of the modern creature comforts. Add the 5-star Global NCAP safety rating to that and you’d know that the premium you are paying is for a quality product, and the XUV300 is for car buyers who are looking for a product like that.
