car&bike Expert Take

“The Maruti Suzuki Invicto is living proof that the Indo-Japanese carmaker can make something other than budget cars. For large families who want a reliable and luxurious vehicle, this one has strong value on offer, along with uncompromised usability.”

When Maruti Suzuki introduced the Invicto in 2023, it clearly showed how the brand wanted to provide a different car in the Indian market for the first time. Based on the Toyota Innova Hycross, this flagship MPV sold through the NEXA channel debuted with a refined, hybrid-only powertrain on showroom floors, and it is currently the most expensive offering from the manufacturer’s fleet. The vehicle has two particular elements that stand out: it resonates with formidable road presence, and it also comes with a spacious, three-row cabin, something large families and fleet operators love very much.

The Invicto, in general, is not just about refining Maruti’s badge value; it is about making the premium MPV segment more accessible for Indians. Much of the focus has been on providing comfort, high fuel economy, and straightforward usability here, but it regrettably does skip a few high-end features as well to keep prices competitive.

Seshan Vijayraghvan had tested out this car’s performance and features in detail and had shared his opinion about it both on our website and on our YouTube channel. We have incorporated some of his insights into this review as well.

Underneath the bonnet, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto relies exclusively on a strong-hybrid setup. You will not find a standalone petrol engine or a diesel option here. The hybrid system smartly ensures that the MPV rarely feels underpowered despite its massive dimensions. Also, the transition between pure electric propulsion and the internal combustion engine is fluid, delivering a punchy surge of torque right off the line.

Seshan, however, clarifies,

“The powertrain develops a good amount of power and torque to pull this mammoth of an MPV, but if I had to nitpick, I would say the engine does its job well, but it’s not very engaging.”

Yes, it does not have sufficient top-end power, but overall, the hybrid system’s real-world usability is exceptional. It gets the job done without any complaints.

Driving Experience: Real World

The hybrid powertrain strictly dictates how the MPV behaves on the tarmac. It is incredibly easy and relaxing to drive.

City Driving

In dense urban traffic, the MPV is a breeze to move around. The electric motor does the heavy lifting at low speeds, promising silent and smooth progress. Acceleration is highly efficient, so expect overtaking inside the city to be quite easy.

Highway Driving

Out on the open road, the MPV cruises steadily at triple-digit speeds. The hybrid engine is mostly silent with its 188 Nm of peak torque, but tyre noise can be heard on concrete surfaces. Meanwhile, it feels planted, absorbing undulations with a soft, forgiving ride. However, do note that overtaking requires you to engage the throttle a bit, as the e-CVT takes a second to deliver maximum power.

The design of the Maruti Suzuki Invicto takes a firm step away from the brand's usual conservative styling. It commands attention with its tall stance, wide front end, and sweeping lines; the sheer size of this vehicle is something to look at. It occupies a lot of space on the road, yet the proportions still feel balanced. Moreover, it does not look like a mundane van at all.

Dimensions Comparison

Width1,850 mm1,845 mm1,800 mm
Height1,795 mm1,795 mm1,700 mm
Wheelbase2,850 mm2,850 mm2,780 mm

At 1,850 mm, the Invicto is comfortably broader than both the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Kia Carens. But its other proportions are exactly like Toyota's offering; same length, same height, and same wheelbase.

The exterior of the MPV is tasteful and well-proportioned, wearing its Nexa-dealership’s identity with pride. It has successfully managed to put road presence with elegant styling cues together.

Front Profile

  • The Nexa grille has a piano black finish along with twin chrome slats.
  • Tri-dot LED daytime running lights give it a distinctive visual signature.
  • A heavy bumper with gloss black elements adds aggression at the front.

Side Profile

  • The side profile highlights its massive length and upright posture.
  • It rides on 17-inch dual-tone precision-cut alloy wheels.
  • Thick 215/60 profile tyres fill the wheel arches perfectly.

Rear Profile

  • The rear features tri-LED signature tail lamps that match the front design.
  • A clean, upright tailgate ensures maximum cargo practicality.
  • And finally, a subtle rear spoiler adds a touch of sportiness to the roofline.

Pros

  • Excellent real-world fuel economy from the hybrid engine
  • Fantastic ride comfort over broken roads
  • Spacious cabin with a highly usable third row

Cons

  • Missing essential flagship features like ADAS
  • No standard petrol or diesel engine options
  • Android Auto is not wireless

Verdict

The Maruti Suzuki Invicto is a highly practical people mover that can successfully compete for the brand in the premium segment. It ditches the traditional heavy, body-on-frame structure for a car-like monocoque chassis, and the result is a beautifully composed ride. The 2.0-litre strong-hybrid engine is the star of the show here.

Yes, it skips out on a few high-end features like the powered ottoman seats and Level 2 ADAS (or even Level 1) to keep prices slightly below its Toyota sibling. But for most buyers, those omissions will not be dealbreakers. If you need a spacious, highly efficient, and incredibly comfortable family cruiser, the Invicto is a genuine step up for loyal Maruti customers seeking luxury.

Seshan concludes,

“In a nutshell, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto is certainly a capable, and well-equipped product. It proves Maruti can do luxury just as well as they do economy.”
