What's New on MG Windsor EV?
Introduction
- The MG Windsor EV is a modern electric car designed for daily use without the hassle of visiting a fuel pump.
- It not only carries people comfortably but also has plenty of storage and stowage space.
- A unique feature of the Windsor EV is that it has a V2L (Vehicle-To-Load) charging capability.
- The Windsor’s lithium-ion battery gives it an impressive range on a single charge.
- Not only is the journey with the Windsor safe, but it’s relaxing and entertaining as well.

Exterior
- Unlike an open grille in traditional cars, the Windsor gets a clean, mostly closed panel.
- This is so because electric cars do not require much air for cooling.
- A light-up MG logo sits in the middle of the nose, and just above or around it runs a wide strip of LED lighting.
- The strip stretches across the car, forming a continuous ‘light bar’ for DRLs.
- Its main headlights are bigger LED units placed lower down in the front bumper.
- This positioning gives the EV a two-layered face, a slim light strip on top, and chunkier lamps below.
- From the side, the roofline gently curves from front to rear without any sudden drops.
- This gives it a capsule like appearance as the panels are free of heavy creases as well.
- The Windsor EV’s door handles sit flush with the body for better aerodynamics and pop out when needed.
- It comes with large 18‑inch alloy wheels that have a more “closed” design.
- Framed by subtly flared wheel arches and dark plastic cladding around the lower edges, protects the body from scrapes.
- The rear is also very rounded, with a softly curved tailgate and bumper rather than an upright, boxy back.
- A single, connected LED light bar runs across the width of the car for the tail lamps, giving it a modern look when lit,
- The individual lamp clusters themselves are relatively compact.
- Its badging is kept simple, as we mainly see the MG logo, the Windsor name, and a neat rear bumper with reflectors.

Interior
- The Windsor’s ‘Aero-Lounge’ seats are nicely padded and can recline up to 135 degrees, making long rides more relaxing.
- It has a spacious cabin with dual-tone ivory interiors and premium soft-touch materials with classy gold highlights.
- A digital 8.8-inch driver display and a massive 15.6-inch infotainment screen provides all information including battery charge status and range.
- Its panoramic glass roof adds to the airy and open feel inside the cabin, letting in natural light.
- The front seats are ventilated and the occupants stay cool and comfy even on hot days.
- An ambient lighting inside comes with 256 colour options to set it as per a user’s taste.
- Its steering wheel is leather-wrapped with controls for easy access to music and calls.
- The rear seats also recline nicely, offering extra comfort for passengers and plenty of legroom.
- This EV has practical features like wireless phone charging, a large glovebox, and storage compartments.
- For convenience, there’s automatic climate control and rear AC vents to keep everyone comfortable.
- A premium nine-speaker Infinity audio system delivers rich sound for music enthusiasts.
- The interior controls are easy to use, with some physical buttons mainly for AC and steering controls.
- Additional features include a 360-degree camera, smart entry, and a V2L charging feature, which powers other electronic appliances.
- It includes safety touches like six airbags, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and even ADAS in the Pro variants.

Powertrain
- A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motorthat powers the Windsor EV is quite efficient and smooth.
- It a power output of 135.8bhp and 200Nm of torque.
- The Windsor EV is offered in two battery capacities - a 38kWh and a bigger 52.9kWh.
- Charging the battery can be done at home with traditional 15A chargers or even through higher capacity public DC units.
- The bigger battery takes about 9.5 hours to fully charge on a regular charger and just 50 minutes on a fast charger.

MG Windsor: car&bike Expert Take
Getting into the MG Windsor EV, we immediately understand
that it is not about high-speed thrills, but everyday comfort. It is a smart package with space, technology, and aggressive value to meet the needs of urban families and practical EV buyers. Even the base variant is well equipped, as Jaiveer Mehra notes in his assessment. We do not purchase the MG Windsor to race. We buy it to travel better.

We drive the MG Windsor EV with Jaiveer Mehra, who has more than 5 years of automotive testing experience and almost 50,000 kilometres of road driving in India.
We subjected the MG Windsor to the stiff traffic of the busy streets in Bengaluru, put it on the open highways outside the city, and drove it over rough roads to know how it performs in the real world. The traffic congestion, highway driving, and rough-road sections provide us with a tangible indication of what this EV was designed for. As emphasised in the car&bike coverage, the MG Windsor is designed to be comfortable for everyday use and practical for ownership, not necessarily a performance thriller.

When we look at the EV, we immediately realise it is designed to be positioned in the centre of the compact EV market in India, where practicality is more important than sheer speed. We get one PMSM motor with 134 bhp and 200 Nm, and two battery options: either a 38 kWh pack with a stated range of 331 km, or a larger 52.9 kWh Pro model with a stated range of 449km (MIDC). That flexibility is important when we are driving in the city most of the time, yet we need to have highway confidence. The point at which MG reverses the script is pricing. The Battery-as-a-Service option can offer much more affordable ownership, undermining competitors such as the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. As Jaiveer Mehra notes, this EV continues to amaze us with the level of features it proposes at the cost.

MG Windsor Base Model (Excite)
The entry-level Excite variant is surprisingly well-equipped. We get full LED lighting, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity and six airbags as standard. Its 17-inch steel wheels and fabric seats make it obvious this is the entry-level model, but it does not feel stripped out. In daily city driving, especially in traffic, we appreciate how all the essentials are already here — cruise control, rear AC vents and a comfortable cabin layout. As Jaiveer Mehra notes, “even the base variant is well equipped”.
MG Windsor Exclusive
Go up to the Exclusive trim, and the MG Windsor begins to feel a lot more high-end. The 15.6-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, 18-inch alloys and 360-degree camera lift the experience noticeably. The digital key and the wireless charger are some of the features that make the product easier to use daily. Here, the value of the Windsor becomes very clear.
MG Windsor Essence
Choosing the Essence trim adds a more premium feel without going over the top. We get the larger 15.6-inch touchscreen experience and a richer cabin feel, along with key convenience features that make daily use smoother. It is the trim that adds comfort and tech depth for family users who want a more complete cabin experience, without necessarily moving to the Pro’s long-range and ADAS-focused positioning.
MG Windsor Top Model (Pro)
The Pro variants add indulgence — panoramic glass roof, Infinity audio and ventilated seats. The Pro also brings ADAS. Boot space is slightly reduced to 579 litres, but comfort is better.
Performance
We don’t get into the MG Windsor expecting neck-snapping acceleration — and that’s exactly the point. It’s a comfort-first electric car built around a 38 kWh battery pack paired with a PMSM motor producing 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. In daily city traffic, especially in Bengaluru, it feels smooth and predictable. The throttle response is progressive, and the instant electric torque helps us move through gaps and overtake slow vehicles without drama.
Key performance highlights include:
- 38 kWh battery pack
- PMSM motor
- 134 bhp power output
- 200 Nm torque
- Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport modes
On the highway, overtakes feel assured rather than aggressive. It won’t pin us to our seat, but it never feels underpowered in real-world driving. The different drive modes allow minor adjustments, yet the overall personality remains relaxed and refined.

Although the stated scale is 331km, the actual implementation in the city will probably be lower with the traffic congestion and the use of the AC, which we quickly understand during the stop-go situations.
Watch: MG Windsor EV Real-World Range Tested.
It does not take us long to realise that the MG Windsor EV is prioritises comfort over a sporty appearance. MG refers to it as Live Business Class, and that notion is reflected in its long wheelbase. The design emphasises more cabin space, as opposed to aggressive styling. EV-specific features that include a clean front, integrated lights, and flush door handles can be observed and make it look more like a modern urban identity.

Surely, the proportions might seem to be a little unusual at first sight, yet they have a point. The extension of the wheelbase has a direct positive impact on the rear-seat comfort and stability. According to Jaiveer Mehra, this EV is made to be relaxed in day-to-day driving, rather than making it a performance drama.

We can see that the MG Windsor EV does not have to make too much effort to stand out. It is not very flashy, but even then, it stands out. Its tall stance and the extended proportions inform us instantly that this EV is a space-centred, but not sporty design.
Front
On the front side, we can have LED projector headlamps with a connected LED light bar, which also makes the car look like an electric one. The glowing MG logo gives it a slight upscale feel even at night. The design is minimal and not excessive.
Side
The long wheelbase is apparent on the side. The additional length will directly translate to the improved rear-seat space. It has a more contemporary look with the use of flush door handles. Exclusive model features 18-inch alloys and premium chrome detailing, giving it a larger presence on the road. The proportions might be somewhat unusual initially, and they have a distinct purpose.
Rear
There are connected LED tail lamps at the rear, across the width, to give the MG Windsor an appearance of being wider and more planted. The tailgate is large enough to be of use, and the loading height is quite manageable with luggage.

Step inside the MG Windsor EV and we immediately notice how spacious and functional the cabin feels. The design is minimalistic and intuitive. Higher variants get a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, while base models come with a 10.1-inch screen. Both are responsive enough for daily use. The seats are comfortable, visibility is good, and the controls are placed exactly where we expect them to be. On longer drives or in heavy traffic, we realise the cabin is designed to reduce fatigue.

Key highlights include:
- 15.6-inch infotainment (higher variants)
- 10.1-inch display (base model)
- Comfortable seating position
- Good all-round visibility
- Practical cabin layout
Everything feels built for everyday usability. Even though the top variant loses a bit of boot space due to the subwoofer, it doesn’t affect real-world practicality. There’s still enough room for family trips and routine shopping runs.

We soon find that the MG Windsor EV is more tech-packed than we expected for its price range. The i-SMART system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, thereby enabling seamless smartphone integration. Features such as the digital key, remote lock-unlocking, and geo-fencing make it extra convenient in daily life when the car is shared. The 360-degree camera makes parking a little more comfortable, and the Pro variant also adds ADAS functionality to provide further assistance on the highway.
Key highlights include:
- i-SMART connected car tech
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported.
- Digital key and geo-fencing
- 360-degree camera
- ADAS in Pro variant
- Nine-speaker Infinity audio
- Voice commands in six languages.
According to Jaiveer Mehra, even the low-end models are well-equipped, which is not common in the segment.

On paper, it competes on the same level as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV; however, the MG Windsor takes ownership differently. With its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, we can bring the initial cost down significantly and pay for the battery separately, which makes entry into EV ownership feel more accessible. This flexibility of pricing is, in fact, sensible to the city users who commute over predictable distances daily.
Variant | Battery | Price (Ex-showroom) |
| Excite | 38 kWh | Rs. 14 lakh |
| Exclusive | 38 kWh | Rs. 15.15 lakh |
| Essence | 38 kWh | Rs. 16.3 lakh |
| Pro variants | 52.9 kWh | Rs. 17.25 lakh |

When switching to an EV, what matters most is driving range rather than mileage. The MG Windsor EV offers two battery options, giving buyers flexibility depending on their usage.
- The 38 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed range of 331 km (MIDC).
- The larger 52.9 kWh battery in the Pro variants
increases the claimed range to 449 km (MIDC).
In real-world driving conditions, factors such as traffic congestion, air-conditioning use and driving style can reduce the achievable range slightly. However, for typical city commuting, the Windsor EV offers enough range to comfortably cover multiple days of driving between charges.
| Variant | Claimed Range |
| 38 kWh Excite | 331 km |
| 52.9 kWh Pro | 449 km |
| Source: car&bike | |
For charging, the Windsor EV supports fast charging that can take the battery from 20 to 80 percent in about 55 minutes. Using a home AC charger, a full charge typically takes around 13.8 hours.

Safety isn’t something we can ignore in daily Indian traffic. When we drive the MG Windsor EV, we feel reassured knowing that six airbags are standard across all variants — something not every competitor offers at the entry level. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill start assist, and hill descent control prove genuinely useful on flyovers, steep parking ramps, and slippery monsoon roads.
Key safety highlights include:
- Six airbags standard
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
- Hill start and descent control
- 360-degree camera
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- ADAS features in Pro variant
The 360-degree camera makes tight city parking far less stressful, while TPMS quietly keeps us informed about tyre health. On highways, the ADAS functions in the Pro variant add extra confidence during long drives. Although official Bharat NCAP ratings may not yet be available, the structure feels solid and confidence-inspiring.

” Windsor does not cut corners in crucial safety matters, even in low trims”, similar to what Jaiveer Mehra emphasises.
The MG Windsor EV strikes us as a very sensible choice in terms of luggage space. The Excite and the Exclusive also have a spacious 604 litres of boot space, which is plenty enough to work somewhere, or bring office bags or the family on a weekend trip. It has a low loading height and a wide opening; hence, heavy suitcases can easily be placed in it without difficulty.
In the Essence and Pro models, the amount of boot space reduces a bit to 579 litres due to the subwoofer to fit the high-quality audio system. In practice, however, there is not much difference, and it is seldom constraining. Although it has a lower capacity, we still have room to make airport runs and longer trips.
The comfort-oriented design of the MG Windsor EV becomes evident when we go over the rough roads in the city. This suspension is made in such a manner that it absorbs bumps and speed breakers in a smooth manner, which makes daily commutes relaxed. The smoother ride maintains fatigue at a minimal level in slow-moving traffic, especially in congested urban settings.
On highways, the Windsor is predictable and stable in cruising speeds. The steering is light and user-friendly in the city, assists in parking and in making tight turns, but it does not feel sporty. Pushing the car to its limits, we can feel the body roll and the car's weight on bumpy roads, but it never feels out of place.
This EV is more of a comfort car than a sharp handling one, as Jaiveer Mehra points out.

We do not consider the MG Windsor EV by itself. We compare it with what one can afford to purchase in the same price bracket, and that is where it gets interesting. The MG Windsor will be competing with tough competitors such as the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Tata Tigor EV. All of them are good on paper, with a nice range and performance, but once we get inside and take a drive, we begin to see where Windsor is making the difference.
| Model | Battery | Torque | Power | Range (km/Full Charge) | Ex-showroom Price |
| MG Windsor EV | 38–52.9 kWh | 200 Nm | 134 bhp | 331–449 km/Full Charge | Rs. 14–17.5 lakh |
| Tata Nexon EV | 30–45 kWh | 215 Nm | 127 bhp | 275–489 km/Full Charge | Rs. 12.49–17.29 lakh |
| Mahindra XUV 3XO EV | 39.4 kWh | 310 Nm | 147 bhp | 456 km/Full Charge | Rs. 13.89–14.96 lakh |
| Tata Tigor EV | ~26 kWh | 170 Nm | 74 bhp | 306 km/Full Charge | Rs. 12.99 lakh |
| Source: MG Windsor EV, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, Tata Tigor EV | |||||
Where we feel the Windsor stands out is in cabin space, feature availability and overall value for money. The comfort in the rear seat and the wide infotainment display make it feel premium enough that competitors can hardly compete with it at the same price bracket. “Windsor continues to impress you with what it can provide at the price”, as Jaiveer Mehra says.
Pros
- Outstanding rear seat comfort
- Feature-loaded even base variant
- Aggressive value pricing strategy
- Large infotainment screen
- Smooth, easy city drivability
Cons
- Not a thrilling EV
- Heavy under aggressive driving
- Top variant loses boot space
- ADAS limited to Pro
- Steering lacks sporty feel
Verdict
We choose the MG Windsor EV because it makes sense. It focuses on comfort, space and technology while keeping pricing aggressive. Having experienced it in everyday traffic and longer commutes, we realise that it has a definite identity. This is an EV that is designed to appeal to real-world urban families rather than speed enthusiasts. It delivers to where it counts the most: rear-seat comfort, feature richness and intelligent ownership value. The Exclusive variant is the most balanced model in the range, as Jaiveer Mehra notes.
