
October looks to have brought some reason to celebrate for multiple auto manufacturers in the country, as the GST 2.0-related price cuts and the festive season provided a notable boost to new car sales. Multiple brands reported best-ever sales during the month, including the likes of Mahindra, Skoda, and Kia, while the battle for second place in the sales charts continues to heat up behind leaders Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki

After months of lacklustre sales, the combined might of GST 2.0 price cuts and the festive season provided a much-needed boost to India’s largest carmaker in domestic wholesales. Maruti Suzuki ended October 2025 with 1,76,318 passenger vehicles sold in the domestic market - up from 1,59,591 units in the same month last year and notably higher than the 1,32,820 units dispatched in September this year.
The carmaker reported a year-on-year growth in sales across almost all segments except its entry hatchbacks, though sales were up compared to September 2025. Sales of the S-Presso and Alto climbed to 9,067 units - up from 7,208 units in September 202,5 though still lower than the 10,687 units dispatched last year.

Sales in the compact segment comprising cars such as the Blaeno, Swift and Dzire amounted to 76,143 units - up from 65,948 units last year and 66,882 units in September. The Utility Vehicle segment also rebounded after a dip in September 2025, rising from 48,695 units to 77,571 units month-on-month. Sales of the Eeco, meanwhile, amounted to 13,537 units. As with the past few months, dispatches of the Ciaz remained zero.
The carmaker also reported sales of 8,915 units to other OEM while exports stood at 31,304 units. Cumulatively, the carmaker reported total wholesales of 2,20,894 units- up from 2,06,434 units last year.
Mahindra

Mahindra has been on a roll in 2025, taking the fight to Hyundai and Tata Motors to firmly establish itself as the second-largest passenger vehicle brand in the country. October ended with the company reporting its best-ever wholesales of 71,624 units in the domestic SUV market - a sharp 31 per cent growth year-on-year and notably higher than 56,233 units reported in September 2025. Total SUV sales stood at 73,890 units in the month.
Commenting on the sales performance, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd. said, “In October, we achieved SUV sales of 71,624 units, a growth of 31%, which is the highest SUV sales we have clocked ever in a month! The total vehicle sales stand at 120,142 units, a 26% growth compared to the same month last year. October also saw the launch of the new editions of Thar, Bolero & Bolero Neo.”
Year-to-date carmaker reported a 17 per cent year-on-year sales growth with total domestic wholesales amounting to 3,69,194 units in FY 2026.
Tata Motors

Tata Motors, too, reported record monthly sales in October 2025 with wholesales of 61,134 units - up from 59,667 units in September 2025. Sales were up 27 per cent year-on-year compared to October 2024, though vehicle exports were down to almost half of last year. Tata reported exports of just 161 units last month, down from 292 units a year ago - down 44.9 per cent.
The carmaker's SUVs lead the charge for the brand in the month, amounting to over 47,000 units or about 77 per cent of overall sales. Tata reported a 50 per cent year-on-year growth in wholesales of its popular Nexon subcompact SUV while sales of the Harrier and Safari crossed 7,000 units in a single month. EV sales too were at an all-time high with cumulative wholesales (domestic + export) of 9,286 units.
Hyundai

Hyundai remained below Mahindra and Tata in terms of domestic wholesales with 53,792 units sold - down from 55,568 units in October 2024. Month-on-month sales too were relatively flat, with 51,547 units sold in the domestic market in September 2025. Exports, meanwhile, stood at 16,102 units, pushing cumulative wholesales to 69,894 units.
Commenting on the company’s performance, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director & Chief Operating Officer, HMIL, said, “October 2025 was a month driven by the festivals of Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali, further complemented by the positive impact of
GST 2.0 reforms. This provided a significant boost to the Indian automotive industry. At
Hyundai Motor India, we witnessed robust market demand and high consumer enthusiasm, leading to second-highest monthly sales of our formidable SUV duo – the Hyundai Creta and Venue combined, with 30,119 units sold. We expect to accelerate this momentum with the upcoming launch of all-new Hyundai Venue, which is already open for bookings.”
Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported domestic wholesales of 40,257 units in October 2025 - up from 28,138 units in the same month last year. Month-on-month sales too witnessed a notable uptick with the company having reported domestic wholesales of 27,089 units in September this year. Exports meanwhile, stood at 2,635 units for the month.
Overall, Toyota reported cumulative wholesales of 42,982 units - a 39 per cent growth over last year and a 38 per cent gain over September 2025.
Kia

The GST 2.0 price cuts and festive season pushed Kia’s wholesales to an all-time high of 29,556 units in October 2025. This was the brand’s best-ever performance in a calendar month in India and marked a 30 per cent growth over October 2024.
The Sonet continued to lead the charge for the company with 12,745 units - the highest monthly sales for the subcompact SUV. This was followed by the new Carens Clavis and Clavis EV with a combined 8,779 units sold, and then the Seltos with 7,130 units dispatched.
Year-to-date, Kia reported a 10 per cent year-on-year growth in 2025 with 2,36,138 units dispatched so far this year compared to 2,15,443 units in the same period last year.
Skoda Auto

Another brand on the growth bandwagon was Skoda Auto India, which reported best best-ever monthly sales figures of 8,252 units in October 2025. Furthermore, the carmaker also revealed that 2025 had become its best-ever year in the Indian market with 61,607 units sold in the 10 months ending October 2025. The carmaker’s previous best-ever year was in calendar year 2022, where it reported wholesales of 53,721 units.
The carmaker said key to the growth was the strong market response to the Kylaq subcompact SUV, which has sold close to 40,000 units since its launch earlier this year. The company also revealed that it was receiving sustained demand for models such as the Kushaq, Slavia and the premium Kodiaq as well.
JSW MG Motor

JSW MG Motor India reported monthly wholesales of 6,397 units in October 2025 - a 9 per cent drop compared to 7,045 units sold in the same month last year. Sales were also marginally down compared to the 6,728 unit wholesales reported in September 2025. The company, however, iterated that festive wholesales in the August to October period were up 20 per cent year-on-year while year-to-date sales were up 27 per cent.
