Bajaj Auto Takeover To Prompt Name Change At KTM‘s Parent Company

- Pierer Mobility AG may be renamed Bajaj Mobility AG
- Bajaj is preparing for a full takeover of KTM
- Earlier this year, Bajaj bailed out KTM from bankruptcy
Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), the parent company behind KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas, is all set for a major rebranding exercise with a planned change of name to Bajaj Mobility AG. The Austrian company, long known for its most popular brand, KTM, is now getting ready to wear the Indian two-wheeler giant’s name, it announced to investors. The change of the company bearing its founder Stefan Pierer’s name to that of Bajaj, will mark a historic change in the company’s name.

Bajaj Auto manufactures single-cylinder KTM motorcycles in India, including the 390 range.
On November 19, 2025, Pierer Mobility AG’s Extraordinary General Meeting is scheduled to meet and hold a formal vote to rename the company, subject to regulatory approval under EU rules. The change of name will only go through if Bajaj Auto’s full takeover of Pierer Mobility Group isn’t blocked by regulators. The supervisory board members, previously nominated by Pierer, will resign and new supervisory board members will be elected to serve in their place.

Stefan Pierer is known for building the KTM brand over the past three decades. He stepped down as CEO of KTM in January 2025.
The latest development comes after Pierer Mobility AG was saved earlier in 2025 from the brink of bankruptcy by Bajaj Auto. Before that deal, Bajaj already held a significant 49.9 per cent stake through a subsidiary in PMAG. In May 2025, Bajaj saved KTM from disaster, and has invested around 800 million Euros to bring the Austrian motorcycle brand back to life and prevent it from facing disaster. Now, Bajaj has already got clearance to take full control of PMAG, without any obligation to make a mandatory takeover bid.
Bajaj Auto is India's largest exporter of two-wheelers and has had a partnership with KTM since 2007
Either way, this is a story which is still unfolding, and a lot of KTM’s future, including product strategy, MotoGP and immediate future strategy will depend on how this unfolds. For Bajaj Auto, it will be an opportunity, to make a mark as the Indian owner of one of the most well-known premium motorcycle brands around the world.
