Electric Vehicles
You might be surprised to hear that electric vehicles are making their way into the national parks of India as well. Mahindra & Mahindra will provide electric cars for safaris.
These electric vehicles can run for up to four hours on one charge. These vehicles can seat up to six people. However, we need to wait a little longer to spot these EVs in every national park in India. It will usher in a pollution-free and a noise-free experience to national park safaris.
SUVs
The most popularly used vehicle in this category is the petrol-powered Maruti Suzuki Gypsy which is sought-after for its quiet engine that rarely fails on even the most difficult terrains. Plus Maruti Suzuki´s vast network makes servicing easy too.

Besides the Gypsy, Mahindra and Tata vehicles are used as well. These are larger than the Gypsy and provide more comfortable seating and a less bouncy ride. In fact, the Taj Group exclusively uses heavily modified Tata 4x4 vehicles for its Safaris. Quite a few other resorts also use Mahindra Commanders and Boleros. However, the Mahindra and Tata vehicles are diesel powered and tend to be noisier, thus disturbing the animals.
Canter
The Canter is a 20-seater bus that is ideal for large groups. The Canter is your best bet if you are looking for a shared experience instead of splitting into tiny cars. Moreover, the cost of occupying a seat in Canter is much lower.

This vehicle is apt for the rocky and bumpy routes of national parks. Also, since it is higher than the jeep, it provides a spectacular view of the park. However, it does not provide the best platform or angle for serious photography. Also, with only one guide for 20 people, the overall experience is more for the rookie tourist than an enthusiast.
Now you know all about safari vehicles in the national parks of India. These vehicles are designed to give you maximum interaction with the wildlife and the best experience!
