car&bike Expert Take
“The updated Skoda Slavia has given some essential mechanical and comfort upgrades to an already capable midsize saloon. Now that it has replaced the older six-speed torque converter with a brand-new eight-speed automatic, city commutes have become far more convenient.”
The Skoda Slavia has received a fresh mid-lifecycle update in 2026. Now, there’s an eight-speed automatic on the 1.0-litre TSI, while Skoda Auto India has reworked the car with extra cabin technology as well.
The current model offers six trims: Classic, Classic Plus, Signature, Sportline, Prestige, and the blacked-out Monte Carlo. The engines remain as before. For the driver’s convenience, higher variants gain front parking sensors, a 360-degree area-view camera and an AI-backed voice assistant.
Seshan Vijayraghvan got behind the wheel of the updated Slavia to see how the new gearbox actually behaves in the real world. He observed,
“SUVs may be ruling the market, but Skoda isn’t giving up on sedans just yet.”

Skoda continues with its strict petrol-only powertrain policy.
Engine Specifications
Both motors are meant for entirely different driving priorities.
Engine | Power | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |

1.0-Litre TSI Turbo Petrol | 114 bhp | 178 Nm | Six-speed manual / Eight-speed automatic | Front-Wheel Drive |
1.5-Litre TSI Turbo Petrol | 148 bhp | 250 Nm | Seven-speed automatic (DSG) | Front-Wheel Drive |

- The torque starts building early from 1,750 rpm and ends around 4,500 rpm.
Highway Driving
- The saloon sits planted at 100 kmph, ignoring crosswinds.
- If you choose the 1.5-litre TSI motor, acceleration is substantially quicker.

Seshan mentions this about the new eight-speed automatic,
“It feels livelier, smoother and more responsive than before.”
The Slavia sticks to the sharp, chiselled European lines of its earlier version.

Both engine variants draw fuel from a standard 45-litre tank.

Skoda Slavia: car&bike Expert Take
“The Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI is clearly a machine for people who actually love to drive. It’s got that punchy mid-range pull, precise steering, and a level of highway stability that makes it feel incredibly secure and alive on the tarmac. It doesn't get distracted by empty gadgets; instead, it doubles down on mechanical depth, refined turbo power, and a connected feel that proves Skoda still knows exactly how to build a proper driver’s car.”- Shams Raza Naqvi
Expert Review Context
Shams Raza Naqvi, Senior Editor at car&bike, and Ameya Naik, Senior Auto Journalist, bring over 35 years of combined hands-on experience reviewing cars and two-wheelers across India.
For this review, they spent a long time driving the Skoda Slavia on different road conditions. This helped them understand its real-world performance, behavior, and daily usability.
Skoda Slavia Overview
Launched in India in 2022, the Skoda Slavia marked a significant turning point for the brand under the 'India 2.0' project. While the rest of the market shifted aggressively towards SUVs, Skoda decided to double down on the mid-size sedan segment, replacing the ageing Rapid with a vehicle that is significantly larger, wider, and more technologically advanced. Over the past few years, it has become a popular choice for driving purists upgrading from compact hatchbacks and for those who find the current crop of high-riding vehicles lacking in high-speed poise.
This Skoda Slavia expert review is based on detailed road tests carried out by the car&bike team on different terrains across India. The high-performance 1.5 TSI variants were evaluated for their mechanical precision, while the 1.0 TSI manual and automatic versions were tested for their daily usability.

By 2025, the brand continued to improve the range, one of the ways being the launch of special editions and the Skoda Slavia top model, Monte Carlo. This context is important because Slavia today is a statement that the premium sedan is here to stay. If you are looking at the entry-level Skoda Slavia base model or the flagship versions, the focus remains on European build quality and driving dynamics. Watch our detailed video review for more insights
Skoda Slavia Performance
The Skoda Slavia has never been positioned as a mere commuter; during our testing, it became clear that the brand has tuned the powertrains for those who truly enjoy the act of driving. We found that the 1.5-litre turbo makes highway overtakes feel effortless, even with a full house, providing a surge of torque that most naturally aspirated engines simply cannot match.
Engine Options Tested
| 1.0-litre TSI Petrol | 114 bhp | 178 Nm | Six-speed MT / Six-speed Torque Converter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5-litre TSI Petrol | 148 bhp | 250 Nm | Six-speed MT / Seven-speed DSG |
Driving Experience: Real World
On our city and highway test drives, the 1.5-litre TSI variant emerged as the performance benchmark. During our highway runs, it managed to complete the 0-100 kmph sprint in just over 8.8 seconds. This makes it one of the quickest sedans in its class. The seven-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) is lightning-fast, swapping ratios with a telepathic precision that keeps the engine in the meat of its power band.
Ameya Naik, with over 15 years of experience, notes:
“The 1.5 TSI gives the Slavia the urgency that enthusiasts crave. One enjoys the mid-range punch and the way it masks speed on open expressways. It is a driver’s car first, family car second.”
The 1.0-litre TSI, however, is tuned for a balance between efficiency and city drivability. In urban conditions, the throttle response is predictable and relaxed, making it easy to manage in heavy traffic. However, the six-speed manual features a long clutch travel that might take a toll on your left leg over time. Additionally, once the engine revs over 2,300rpm, significant noise creeps into the cabin. While it lacks the sheer "shove" of the larger engine, Shams Raza Naqvi observed that it never feels underpowered for routine duties.
According to Shams Raza Naqvi:
"The strength of the 1.0 TSI is its versatility. It handles the city commute with grace and doesn't feel strained when you need to cruise at triple-digit speeds on the highway."
An important technical highlight we observed is the Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) in the 1.5-litre engine. Under low load conditions, the system shuts down two cylinders to save fuel. We found this transition to be completely seamless; you wouldn't know it’s happening unless you’re staring at the notification on the digital instrument cluster.
Skoda Slavia Design
When we look at the Skoda Slavia design language, it is clearly inspired by the larger Octavia and Superb. The styling focuses on 'Crystalline' elements—sharp lines and pinched metal—that give it a very sophisticated and executive appearance. Unlike the boxy sedans of the past, the Slavia has a fastback-like sloping roofline that adds a touch of sportiness.
Importantly, we noted that the design focuses on aerodynamic efficiency and visual flair. Visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent, the areas of glass are generous, and the high ground clearance of 179 mm (unladen) adds directly to the usability on Indian roads. In terms of proportions, the Slavia sits comfortably above its predecessor, offering a much more substantial road presence. Our observations show it is a car that looks modern and clean, designed to appeal to the buyer who values understated luxury over aggressive, loud styling.
Skoda Slavia Exterior
As we observed the Exterior in our Skoda Slavia expert review, it is the brand's intention to balance visual appeal with the ruggedness required for Indian infrastructure.
Front Profile
Up front, the Slavia shows off that classic hexagonal grille wrapped in chrome, sitting right between those aggressive LED headlights. Those L-shaped DRLs really make the car pop at night with a very distinct look. We noticed the main headlamps are tucked a bit lower to throw light exactly where you need it, a detail we found super helpful for staying confident during those long night-time highway runs. The bumper design is clean, featuring a wide honeycomb air intake that adds to the car’s wide stance.
Side Profile
Looking at the side profile, the sedan roots of the Slavia are unmistakable. The long wheelbase of 2,651 mm, the longest in its segment is immediately obvious and plays a major part in freeing up cabin space. This translated during our testing into noticeably better legroom than many compact SUVs. The 16-inch alloy wheels on the higher trims feature a sharp, dual-tone design that fills the arches well. Large doors and a relatively accessible floor height make ingress and egress easy for all passengers.
Rear Profile
The rear design is quite simple but broad, featuring split LED tail lamps with C-shaped motifs. The 'SKODA' lettering on the boot lid gives it an upscale look. Furthermore, the tailgate opens out wide to make it easy to load large pieces of luggage. While we found the rear design to be slightly more conservative than the front, it is in line with the car's executive positioning.
Dimensions Table
| Length | 4,541 mm |
|---|---|
| Width | 1,752 mm |
| Height | 1,507 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,651 mm |
| Ground Clearance | 179 mm |
Skoda Slavia Interior
The interior is where the Skoda Slavia truly justifies its premium billing. During our time with the car, it became obvious that the designers focused on ergonomics and material quality to ensure a long-distance touring capability.
Cabin Layout and Quality
The dashboard layout is horizontal and multi-layered,
which helps to make the cabin feel wide and airy. The dual-tone black and beige colour scheme brightens the interior, and the quality of materials is consistent across major touchpoints. While there are some hard plastics lower down, the parts you touch most, the steering wheel and gear lever, feel high-grade.
According to Shams Raza Naqvi:
“The Slavia’s cabin feels well thought out. The 10-inch touchscreen is the centrepiece, but the physical buttons for the steering and the tactile vents show that Skoda hasn't sacrificed usability for style.”

Seating Comfort
Front Row: On the front side, the seats have good lateral support and cushioning for long drives. On our long runs on the highway, there was minimal fatigue even after several hours behind the wheel.
Rear Row: The rear row is a massive strength. The generous wheelbase translates into class-leading legroom. Under-thigh support is superior to most rivals, and the dedicated rear AC vents provide consistent cooling.
Features That Improve Daily Use
- Multiple USB Type-C charging ports in both rows.
- Large 10-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity on the top-end variant lower variants get a seven-inch system.
- Ventilated front seats (available in higher trims) which are a blessing in the Indian summer.
- A customisable eight-inch digital cockpit that provides all essential driving data.
While the Skoda Slavia base model covers the basics, the higher trims introduce a level of luxury, like the leatherette upholstery and sunroof, that makes the cabin feel special.

Skoda Slavia Pricing
Skoda has smartly arranged to make the Slavia a genuine premium upgrade that most families can still afford without actually making it too exclusive. If we consider the 2026 lineup, the pricing across various models has been structured in such a way that there will certainly be a version suitable for you if you are either really budget-conscious or looking to satisfy your performance thrill.
Showroom prices:
| Engine & Transmission | Variant | Price (Ex-Showroom) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0-litre TSI Manual | Classic | Rs. 10.69 Lakh |
| 1.0-litre TSI Automatic | Signature | Rs. 13.99 Lakh |
| 1.5-litre TSI Manual | Signature | Rs. 15.49 Lakh |
| 1.5-litre TSI DSG (Automatic) | Prestige | Rs. 18.69 Lakh |
During our evaluation, it became clear that the brand has made a conscious choice to offer a strong entry price with the Skoda Slavia base model, while the Skoda Slavia top model competes with executive sedans from a segment above. Buyers moving up from hatchbacks will find the 1.0-litre variants approachable, while those seeking pure performance will find the 1.5-litre pricing justified by the mechanical hardware on offer.
Skoda Slavia Mileage
Efficiency is always a concern with turbocharged engines, but the TSI units in Slavia are designed for a balance of power and economy.

| 1.0-litre TSI Manual | 12–14 kmpl | 17–19 kmpl |
| 1.5-litre TSI DSG | 10–12 kmpl | 15–17 kmpl |
During our tests on highways with a full load of passengers, the 1.5-litre version was able to deliver impressive fuel economy thanks to its cylinder deactivation technology. This strengthens Slavia's status as a sensible long-distance option for those who don't want to compromise on power. The 1.0-litre engine remains the pick for those who spend the majority of their time in urban stop-and-go traffic.
Skoda Slavia Safety
Safety is an area where the Skoda Slavia has set an industry benchmark. Unlike many cars in this price range, the Slavia was built with a "safety-first" philosophy right out of the gate.
Passive Safety and Crash Protection
Global NCAP conducted a crash test on the vehicle, and it was awarded a perfect five-star rating for adult as well as child occupant protection. This has instantly elevated Slavia to the safest vehicle segment in India. When we inspected the car, the availability of six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a strong body structure made us feel extremely safe when we were with our family.
As noted by Ameya Naik:
“At this price, the Slavia is the benchmark for safety. It’s not just about the number of airbags, but the structural integrity that holds up in an impact.”
Active Safety Systems
Standard equipment includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Multi-Collision Braking, and Traction Control. In our highway driving, during sudden braking and evasive manoeuvres, the stability interventions worked in their smoothest mode, ensuring the car never felt out of control.Safety is an area where the Skoda Slavia has set an industry benchmark. Skoda Slavia Technology and Features
Technology in Slavia is about functionality that makes a difference in day-to-day use, not just headline-grabbing gimmicks.
Infotainment and Interface
The 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the top trim is incredibly responsive and easy to navigate. During our testing, there was consistency with screen response times and smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which was consistent with no dropouts even in areas with poor network.

Cabin Practicality
We found the eight-speaker sound system with a high-performance subwoofer (in the top trim) to be excellent. The wireless charging pad is conveniently located, and the inclusion of Type-C ports ensures that modern devices are well-supported. Other practical touches include the Simply Clever features like the ticket holder on the A-pillar and the deep door pockets.
Skoda Slavia Boot Space
Boot space is one of the primary reasons why many buyers still prefer the Slavia over compact SUVs.
- Standard Capacity: 521 litres.
- With Rear Seats Folded: 1,050 litres.
In real-world use, this means practical accommodation of three large suitcases for airport runs. The flat loading floor and wide aperture make it easy to cope with holiday luggage or bulky cargo. There is also an underfloor storage compartment for smaller, essential items like a toolkit or first-aid kit.
Skoda Slavia Ride and Handling
In our test drive, we found that the Slavia clearly trumps its high-riding rivals in terms of high-speed stability and ride comfort.
City Driving
In urban conditions, the suspension feels slightly firm but never harsh. During testing in the city over broken roads, the suspension absorbed imperfections well without thudding into the cabin. The steering is light and the visibility is good, meaning the car never feels intimidating to drive in tight traffic.
Highway Driving
On highways, we observed that the Slavia settles into a very relaxed cruising pace. At speeds between 100 and 120 kmph, the car felt incredibly stable and predictable. Body roll is well-contained, giving the driver the confidence to take corners with precision.

As Ameya Naik says:
“The Slavia is tuned to make the driver feel in control and the passengers comfortable. That clarity in handling shows in the way it approaches bad roads with confidence.”
Skoda Slavia Variants
The Skoda Slavia variant structure has been updated to keep it competitive. Currently, the lineup is broadly categorised into Active, Ambition, and Style trims.
What You Get in the Base Model (Active):
- 1.0-litre TSI Engine with Manual Transmission.
- Core safety equipment including ESC and Multi-collision braking.
- Essential infotainment features with a seven-inch touchscreen.
What You Get in the Top Model (Style):
- Choice of 1.0-litre or 1.5-litre TSI Engines.
- Six Airbags and a five-star safety rating.
- Ventilated seats, Sunroof, and Digital Cockpit.
- 10-inch touchscreen and Premium sound system with Subwoofer.
This simplified lineup removes potential confusion, allowing buyers to choose based on their powertrain preference and luxury requirements.
Which Skoda Slavia Variant Should You Buy? Our Recommendations
With the lineup catering to different needs, our choice comes down to your primary usage.
Best for Driving Enthusiasts: 1.5-litre TSI DSG (Style)
This is the most rounded performance sedan on sale today. The combination of the 150 PS engine and the quick DSG gearbox makes it a joy on the open road.
Best for the Daily Commute: 1.0-litre TSI Automatic (Ambition)
Ideal for buyers who drive mostly in cities. It offers the convenience of an automatic with enough features to feel premium, while the 1.0-litre engine provides better city fuel economy.
Skoda Slavia Competitors
While rivals such as the City, Verna, and Virtus have different strengths, the Slavia stands out by having the best ground clearance and a safety-first stance.
| Skoda Slavia | 1.0-litre / 1.5-litre Petrol | 14–19 kmpl | Best safety rating and ground clearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honda City | 1.5-litre Petrol / Hybrid | 17–27 kmpl | Rear seat comfort and brand reliability |
| Hyundai Verna | 1.5-litre Petrol / Turbo | 18–20 kmpl | Feature-rich cabin and ADAS technology |
| Volkswagen Virtus | 1.0-litre / 1.5-litre Petrol | 14–19 kmpl | Sporty aesthetics and European dynamics |
Which sedan should you choose?
- Choose the Slavia if driving dynamics, safety, and high ground clearance are your priorities.
- Choose the City if you want a relaxed, chauffeur-driven experience.
- Choose the Verna if you want the latest tech gadgets and a futuristic look.
Pros
- The new 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission on the 1.0-litre TSI makes for a much smoother and livelier drive.
- Top-end Prestige and Monte Carlo trims are now available with the 1.0 TSI engine, so you don’t need to buy the more expensive 1.5 TSI to access the entire list of features.
- The clear 360-degree view camera visuals with dynamic guidelines makes parking in tight spots easier.
- It has a 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation alerts and a Google Cloud-powered infotainment interface with Gemini-based voice assistance.
- The two outer rear passengers have seat massagers for a comfortable experience.
- The 1.5-litre TSI continues to offer benchmark performance with the quick-shifting 7-speed DSG for driving enthusiasts.
- Retains the composed high-speed ride quality, large 521-litre boot, and a 5-star crash safety rating.
Cons
- The 6-speed manual gearbox is no longer offered on the 1.5-litre TSI.
- Misses out on Level 2 ADAS suite of safety functions.
- Rear-seat massager functionality is not available on the front seats.
- The quality of plastic lower down on the dashboard could have been better at the price point.
Verdict
The new 2026 Skoda Slavia facelift gets functional mechanical/feature updates rather than just cosmetic upgrades. The new, responsive 8-speed torque converter on the 1.0 TSI eliminates the low-end lethargy the previous car had. This, along with additions like a 360-degree camera, rear seat massagers, and the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit instrumentation make the updated Slavia a more rounded executive sedan.
Seshan Vijayraghvan drove the Slavia facelift in Jodhpur and said, "The new Slavia isn’t a radical update, but Skoda has focused on the areas that matter. The changes are clearly aimed at addressing customer feedback, with more features, better tech and, most importantly, a new 8-speed automatic. That gearbox is the biggest takeaway for me. Bringing it to the 1.0-litre TSI makes the car smoother and more refined, while giving buyers a more compelling automatic option."
What lacks in the new Slavia is the absence of a manual gearbox on the 1.5 TSI powerplant, and there being no ADAS features currently. Nevertheless, for buyers who want those European looks, excellent stability, a huge boot and an effortless daily automatic transmission, the updated Slavia is the great option.
Skoda Slavia Mileage
Skoda Slavia mileage is 18 to 20 KM/L as per ARAI The Manual Petrol engine has a mileage of 19.4 KM/L. The Automatic Petrol engine has a mileage of 20.3 KM/L.
| Fuel Type | Transmission | Mileage | City Mileage | Highway Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Manual | 19.4 KM/L | 15.5 KM/L | 21 KM/L |
| Petrol | Automatic | 20.3 KM/L | 16.2 KM/L | 22 KM/L |
