The 2020 Skoda Karoq is built on the versatile MQB platform and it comes to India in only one, fully equipped, top-spec variant with all the bells and whistles. It’s design and styling is heavily inspired by the Skoda Kodiaq, and you can see that in its signature butterfly grille, flanked by a set of rectangular LED headlights with Skoda's crystalline design elements and integrated LED daytime running lamps. The Karoq gets premium features like – an electrically powered driver seat, virtual cockpit, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a panoramic sunroof, all as standard. The 2020 Volkswagen Vento was introduced this year with a new 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, which will be the only engine on offer. While visually the car remains similar to the facelifted model that was launched in September 2019, the addition of the new engine gives the compact sedan a fresh touch. It’s the same engine that does duty in the Vento’s sibling, Polo and their Czech cousin Skoda Rapid, and in India it comes with the 6-speed manual gearbox. Recently, VW also added a 6-speed automatic torque converter to the mix. In addition to a strong build, and excellent driving mannerisms, the Vento also comes with a decent number of features. India's original compact SUV has been given the turbo treatment with the introduction of the powerful 1.3 litre Turbo Petrol engine. This 4 cylinder engine belts out a good 156 PS at 5,500 rpm but if you like to drive what might bring a bigger smile on your face is that at just 1600 rpm it generates a very impressive torque figure of 254 Nm. In comparison, the 1.5 liter naturally aspirated Petrol engine the car also comes with, stops at 142 Nm @ 4000 rpm and the power is down by a good 50 PS. Renault has offered this 1.3 Liter turbo Petrol with both manual and CVT options. And all that power and torque means this is a car which lets you have a lot of fun right from the word go. It doesn't matter that you're driving the CVT or the manual, the figure remains approximately the same at 16.5 kmpl. The start/stop function on the car also helps to a certain extent. An EcoGuide system, according to Renault monitors driving patterns and provides guidelines to improve efficiency. The 2 higher variants come with 17 inch alloys which also mean the the drive becomes a little more reassuring and you can take to the roads with higher confidence. Sadly though the all-wheel drive option seen earlier on the Duster is missing here. Its easy to differentiate this Turbo variant from the the regular Duster. The red accents have now almost become synonymous with turbo variants of various cars and that's the case here too. Only that here its called crimson red accents. The front grille, the tail gate, the roof rails & the fog lamp cover all get it. Otherwise the tri-winged full chrome grille, dual tone body colour front bumper with skid plates, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, waterfall LED tail lamps and the diamond cut alloys look the same as before. In all there are 7 colour options on offer including the Mahagony brown you see in this video. Inside, the midnight black interiors give this cabin some bit of uniqueness. The familiar 7 inch touch screen is here too and comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice recognition. There are 5 variants on offers, while the base RXE trim comes with just a manual gearbox the RXS and the top of the line RXZ get both manual and CVT. That makes it a big price range from Rs. 10.49 lakh to Rs. 13.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Shams Raza Naqvi tests out the the Duster Turbo to find out if it will appeal more to the purists now. The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the newest luxury electric SUV in the market and the first ever fully electric car from the German brand. The India launch of the car is expected to happen in the coming months. The EQC is loosely based on the GLC and that is evident in the fact that both cars share the same platform and similar design too. Plus, it made sense to adapt an existing car platform in order to keep costs to a minimum and reduce R&D budget too. But, the EQC will come to India as a completely built unit and well, we expect the pricing to reflect that! The EQC gets two asynchronous motors, one at each axle and the combined power output is 402 bhp. Mercedes claims a 0-100 kmph sprint time of just 5.1 seconds. The front motor is tuned for providing optimum, efficient performance while the rear motor is employed to offer a more dynamic feel when driving. The EQC offers a range of 450+ kilometres on full charge. Plugged into a DC fast-charger, the EQC can get up to 80 per cent charge in less than an hour. With 40,000 units sold in less than a year since its launch, the Triber has been a runaway success for Renault. And the surprise here is that the Triber did it with just one engine and one gearbox combination, where in modern times, most cars have multiple engine and gearbox options. But now, the Triber gets an AMT or automated manual transmission as an option! The Renault Triber is a quintessential people mover! Compact, smart, spacious and very practical, it is easy to see why the Triber is doing well for Renault! The Triber continues to get the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which makes 71 bhp at 6,250 rpm while the peak power output is 96 Nm coming in at 3,500 rpm. The claimed fuel efficiency is 18.29 kmpl, which is just marginally less than the efficiency on the manual variant. As is the case with all AMTs, the Triber's AMT or Easy-R as it is called, is a 5-speed unit and while the gearshifts themselves are very smooth, the process itself is a little slow and while it may not seem to be much of a problem when you are driving at regular city speeds, but in case you need to overtake a slower moving vehicle, you will need to plan that manoeuvre. Another piece of good news is that you can shift gears using the manual mode as well, in case you need to make a quick getaway. Renault offers the AMT on RXL, RXT and the RXZ variants of the Triber and the prices start at Rs. 6.25 lakh, going up to Rs. 7.29 lakh. On an average, the AMT variants are about Rs. 40,000 more expensive than their manual counterparts and while the price gap could have been lesser, it is not drastically different either.
