How Mercedes-Benz Built Its Place in India
Mercedes-Benz entered India in 1994, becoming one of the first luxury carmakers to establish a proper presence in the country. The brand started with the E-Class and gradually built a strong position among buyers looking for more comfort, performance and prestige than mainstream cars could offer. You can also explore Mercedes Benz old model cars and see how the brand's lineup has changed over the years.
Over the years, the range grew well beyond sedans. Mercedes-Benz added SUVs, coupes, convertibles and performance-focused AMG models, while the Maybach name brought an even higher level of luxury. This gave the brand a place in several parts of the premium market instead of depending on one or two models.
India has also become an important part of Mercedes-Benz's global operations. Its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, handles local assembly of several models, while Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India has a major centre in Bengaluru. The company has continued to increase its local presence while bringing newer global technologies and models to Indian customers.
The brand has also moved strongly into electric mobility. Its EQ range includes models such as the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV and EQS, while newer products such as the CLA EV and G 580 EV add more variety. This means Mercedes electric cars now cover everything from compact luxury SUVs to large flagship models.
Today, Mercedes-Benz remains one of India's most recognised luxury car brands. Its lineup ranges from the A-Class Limousine and GLA to the E-Class, GLE, S-Class and G-Class, giving buyers very different ways to enter or move up within the Mercedes-Benz range.

Technology in Mercedes-Benz Cars
Technology is a major part of the modern Mercedes-Benz experience, but the useful features are not limited to large screens. The brand focuses on making information, entertainment and everyday functions easier to access.
MBUX Infotainment System
The MBUX system brings together navigation, music, vehicle settings and connected functions through the touchscreen, digital displays and voice commands. Equipment varies between models, with higher-end cars offering more advanced screens and interfaces.
Connected Car Features
Mercedes me connected services allow owners to access selected vehicle functions through a smartphone. Depending on the model and subscription, this can include checking vehicle information, locating the car and controlling certain functions remotely.
Digital Displays and Premium Cabin Tech
Higher-end Mercedes-Benz models offer large digital screens, customisable displays and advanced cabin functions. Features such as ambient lighting, premium audio systems and multi-zone climate control further add to the luxury experience.
Technology Across Electric Cars
Mercedes electric cars put more focus on digital technology and making the EV experience easier to manage. The driver can see key information such as battery charge, estimated range, energy consumption and charging status through the digital displays. Depending on the model, connected-car features can also help with checking the vehicle remotely and planning charging.
Mercedes-Benz Cars: Safety and Driver Assistance
Mercedes-Benz uses a combination of structural protection, active safety systems and driver assistance features to help protect occupants and reduce the chances of a collision.
Active Safety Features
Depending on the model and variant, Mercedes-Benz cars can offer ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and parking assistance.
Strong Occupant Protection
Multiple airbags, electronic stability control, ABS and other standard safety systems form the basic safety package, while more expensive models add additional assistance and protection technologies.
Crash-Test Ratings Can Vary
Safety ratings are specific to individual models and testing programmes. Mercedes-Benz has models with strong results in independent crash tests, but buyers should check the latest rating for the exact car and variant they are considering instead of applying one rating to the entire range.
Extra Assistance in Higher-End Models
Flagship Mercedes-Benz cars can offer more advanced systems that assist with braking, steering, lane changes and parking. These features are designed to support the driver rather than replace their attention.
Why Buyers Choose Mercedes-Benz Cars?
Mercedes-Benz has built its reputation around making the driving experience feel special, not just adding luxury touches to the cabin. Comfort, quietness, powerful engines and a strong sense of quality remain important across the range.
Comfort Comes First
Most Mercedes-Benz models are designed to make long journeys easy. Comfortable seats, good cabin insulation and well-controlled suspension help reduce fatigue, particularly on highways. Larger models such as the E-Class and S-Class put even more emphasis on rear-seat comfort.
A Wide Choice of Powertrains
The range includes petrol and diesel models alongside a growing selection of electric cars. This gives buyers the option to choose based on how and where they drive. Those who prefer conventional engines can look at models such as the C-Class, E-Class, GLC and GLE, while Mercedes electric cars offer a quieter and more seamless driving experience.
Technology Is a Major Part of the Experience
Modern Mercedes-Benz cars feature the MBUX infotainment system, digital displays and connected-car functions. Higher-end models take this further with larger screens, advanced driver assistance systems and features designed around the driver and passengers.
Safety Is Taken Seriously
Mercedes-Benz combines multiple airbags, electronic stability systems, parking assistance and driver assistance technology across its range. Features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane assistance and blind-spot monitoring are available on selected models and variants.
Living With a Mercedes-Benz: Ownership Experience
Buying a Mercedes-Benz is about more than the badge. The ownership experience can be very rewarding, but there are a few practical points worth understanding before spending on a luxury car.
Comfort on Daily Drives
Even the smaller Mercedes models have a clear focus on cabin comfort. Larger cars go a step further with better rear-seat space, stronger insulation and more sophisticated suspension systems. This makes the brand particularly appealing to buyers who spend a lot of time travelling.
Maintenance Costs Can Be Expensive
Mercedes-Benz cars cost more to maintain than mainstream cars, and repairs can also become expensive once the warranty period is over. Parts, specialised components and labour all add to ownership costs. Regular servicing and a suitable maintenance package can make expenses easier to plan.
The Dealer Network Matters
Mercedes-Benz has an established sales and service network in India, but coverage is naturally smaller than brands such as Maruti Suzuki or Hyundai. Buyers living outside major cities should check the location of their nearest authorised workshop before choosing a model.
Used Mercedes Cars Need Extra Checking
Older models can look very attractive in the used market because their prices fall considerably from their original levels. However, buyers considering Mercedes benz old model cars should pay close attention to service history, previous repairs, mileage and the condition of expensive mechanical and electronic components.
Before You Buy a Mercedes-Benz
A Mercedes-Benz can be an excellent choice if the ownership costs and the type of car match your needs. The badge alone should not be the reason to buy one.
Start With Your Budget
The Mercedes car price in India varies massively between models. A-Class Limousine and GLA buyers are looking at a very different proposition from someone considering an S-Class, G-Class or EQS. Keep insurance, maintenance, tyres and other running costs in your budget as well.
Think About How You Drive
A compact Mercedes makes more sense for mostly urban use, while larger SUVs and sedans work better for buyers who regularly travel with family or spend long hours on highways. Electric models can also make sense if you have convenient access to home or workplace charging.
Don't Just Look at the Cheapest Model
People searching for Mercedes cheapest cars may naturally start with the A-Class Limousine or GLA, but the right choice depends on what you expect from the car. A slightly more expensive model may offer substantially more space, comfort or performance for your usage.
Compare the Ownership Package
Look beyond the showroom price. Ask about service plans, warranty coverage, insurance, tyres and replacement costs before booking. This gives you a much clearer picture of what the car will actually cost to own.
car&bike Expert Tips for Mercedes-Benz Buyers
A few simple checks can make the buying decision easier:
- If this is your first luxury car, start by comparing the A-Class Limousine, GLA and C-Class to understand the difference in size, comfort and pricing.
- If rear-seat comfort is important, give the E-Class a proper look before moving straight to larger SUVs.
- Buyers wanting an electric luxury car have several options, so compare battery range, charging requirements and body style rather than looking only at the price.
- If you are considering a used Mercedes, get the car inspected and verify its complete service history before making an offer.
- For buyers moving into the flagship segment, compare the S-Class, GLS and G-Class based on how you actually plan to use the car.
- Keep an eye on the Mercedes benz car price in India, as variant updates and new launches can change the entry point to different parts of the range.

My employee's Maruti Alto's air conditioning is much much more effective. Air conditioner smell: There is an awful odour that comes when the A/C is turned on. This smell continues despite sending it to the dealer many times ; Joshi Autozone maintains the AC filter needs to be changed to prevent the smell. What I don’t understand is that if AC filter costing Rs.8000/- needs to be changed after the car has run only 20000 odd KM then it does not go well for a brand like Mercedes Benz. Gear Change problem: When changing gears from P to D1 or P to reverse it does not function properly and we need to press a couple of times to make the operation. Rain sensor problem-During the rainy season, I observed that the sensor indicating heavy water under the car also does not give an indication. - Mercedes-Benz GLE - Awesome Car to Drive5.0PerformanceMileageComfortCost of OwnershipValue for MoneySafetyStylingSales SupportArpit AcharyaMercedes-Benz GLE is a great car with nicer to drive. The five setup settings in the GLE - comfort, sport, individual, slippery and off-road are awesome. I purchased my car from the best dealer of Ahmedabad - Emerald Mercedes. They offered high-quality services. They gave the best rates than any other Mercedes dealer.Posted on: 2019-12-19 19:59:31114
