2023 Honda City Review:
The 2023 Honda City represents a refreshed version of the fifth-generation sedan that debuted in India in 2021. Building on its legacy, this new model incorporates enhancements inspired by the robust hybrid variant, the City e:HEV, introduced in 2022. In a fiercely competitive and off-late active compact sedan segment, the City 2023 aims to uphold its premium and straightforward appeal.
The City 2023 offers two distinct aesthetic options: Elegance and Sporty. The Elegance trim retains the essence of the pre-facelift design, while the Sporty variant introduces more pronounced bumpers, a mesh grille, and faux carbon fiber-finished lower extensions. The fog lamp housings exhibit greater intricacy, and the rear bumper boasts a diffuser-like design. It's important to note that the Sporty trim is exclusive to the City e:HEV and the top-tier petrol trim (VX) and definitely offers a unique look in the segment.
The City 2023 is able to maintain the sleek and balanced silhouette of its predecessor, with different alloy wheel choices being the only notable change in its profile. This facelift marginally enhances the already appealing aesthetics of the fifth-generation of the sedan, contributing to its premium look.
Pros
- Potent Engine
- Sporty Design
- Spacious Cabin
Cons
- Honda has missed out on the spirited 1.0-litre turbo petrol for India
- Outdated Infotainment System
- Slightly Expensive
Verdict
A premium, well loaded, and well designed car – fitting of the City nameplate. There are bits we could have been happier with, but there's plenty here to excite the segment. And the die-hard Honda City fan.

It's stylish, gives good mileage and is a value for money car. The only thing that should be improved is the diesel engine noise. A little noisy.By RulzrajPosted on: Dec 25, 2019 12:20 AM7324
- Engine block breakage1.0VX MT Diesel BS IV(Diesel)Dear Team, This complaint pertains my private car (vehicle registration number:UP32FH6233 purchased in the year 2014 from Stallion Honda Lucknow. Since purchase,my car has been regularly serviced only at Stallion Honda's workshop and has always been under a very good maintained condition. In the month of April'2018 i got my car serviced at Stallion Honda.(invoice of the same attached for your kind reference). Recently,my brother alongwith his family went to Delhi and while returning to Lucknow on 21st June'2018 all of a sudden, car stopped at Agra Express highway at around 3:30pm. Car was running at a constant speed of approx 90-100km/hr. Hope you can imagine our condition where we were stuck at expressway, alongwith ladies and family members,mid-day,47 degree temperature and no help around.... After some time we got help from patroling van and arranged our car towed to Agra at MGR Automobile Pvt Ltd. workshop. Rather than returning to lucknow my family had to stay at Agra. After vehicle inspection,we were intimated that Engine Block part of the engine broke while vehicle was running and we were handed over an estimate of Rs.1.5lakh. PLEASE ADDRESS BELOW QUESTIONS: 1. If there was any defect in above part of the engine, why i was not intimated by Stallion Honda at the time of vehicle service in April'2018.Do they only perform superficial check-up on the car while servicing leaving vital check-ups un-attended and risking life of customers?? 2. There is certain life of engine parts and when it comes to the vital parts of the engine, durability is much more.Atleast we purchased Honda car because of its superior quality parts and performance and after this case we were lest disappointed as mere in the tenure of approx 5 years how can a major engine part result in a failure??this leaves a big questionmark on the quality of spare parts of HONDA CARS. 3.This incident could have resulted in a fatal road accident where my car could have dashed from behind from another speeding vehicle at expressway. Why should i not move to consumer court and file a case against Honda Cars India and Stallion honda demanding vehicle repair expense, towing charges, familt stay at Agra hotel, taxi charges from Agra to lucknow as all these expense are incurred just because of sheer neglegence and pathetic service of Stallion Honda and inferior parts quality provided by Honda cars. My vehicle is at MGR Automobile Pvt Ltd. workshop,Agra and I am facing a lot of trouble in local commuting. This is affecting my business as well. EXPECTING A PROMPT REVERT FROM YOUR SIDE AND A QUICK SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM.By Anil KapoorPosted on: Oct 21, 2019 01:10 AM112

- CITY IS 'THE' CAR IN IT'S SEGMENT5.0ZX CVT Petrol Anniversary Edition(Petrol)PerformanceMileageComfortCost of OwnershipValue for MoneySafetyStylingSales SupportIt's a perfect combination of Safety, Performance and Style in that order of Priority. The R and D gone into designing a Honda is distinctly visible. Although am a Maruti loyalist and would've gone for a much cheaper Ciaz if it had a Sunroof but now, it's Thank God it didn't! The auto transmission in the form of CVT is a wonder. The prospective buyer must shed the typical Indian mentality of 'Automatic Consumption is Higher'! The systems in the machine itself ensures fuel economy by the driver. It's already giving much more milage than my earlier Swift (Petrol). The Cruise Control pampers you so much that one looks forward for opportunities to drive more and drive long! The uphill driving becomes so easy. The auto stabilizing feature makes turning a child's play, without reducing speed. The Safety features are fool proof and too many. The dealership would be able to explain them better. The keyless entry is 'literal' as one doesn't require to even push the remote button to enter the Car. The proximity sensor of the driver unlocks the car. A small but extremely useful feature. Some Shortcomings:- - The high beam of headlights are too low for convenient driving in absolute dark conditions. In hill driving, it actually becomes dangerous. - The User Guide Book is confusing, voluminous and not vehicle specific. From Africa to East Asia to India to 6 variants covered in one book. Every time, in each page, you've to look for your machine variant. Poor cost cutting measure by Honda, must say. One buying a 13Lakh machine would atleast expect a dedicated user manual. - Reverse Parking Camera is excellent with three views but a Sensor should also have been there. Makes reversing easy. - The ?700/- worth WiFi adaptor should be part of the basic kitting atleast in the top variants. Shows Brand Honda in poort light as it reduces utility of the beautiful infotainment display. - I was a bit surprised to find that the top end variant too comes without floor mats! Overall a 10 on 10 for the Car in Petrol variant. Dealership quite responsive, unlike the arrogant Hundai. Would be happy to address any specific queries too if it's allowed in C&B review. Posting for the first time, though C&B helped me a lot in decision making, in the past as well as now.By S ChatterjeePosted on: May 24, 2019 04:25 PM101
